Guess stratagems, relics and such will compensate for the lack of new minis and characters...

We won`t get anything new and i`m afraid many things will be nerfed. Like grots and beasts (realy?) for example.
And i`m realy pessimistic about this ''new mechanics'' GW mentioned

It'll just be them trying to get power from pain working properly... again. I don't think they've ever gotten that rule to a point where they liked it.

Maybe we'll get a new version of accute senses/night vision. Something that limits or prevents range reductions or to hit penalties on shooting attacks.

I don't think I'll ever stop being irritated about how we used to be the army that could see in the dark, but the game wouldn't let us attack in it. "Grim darkness" my butt.

Yeah. They had all these rules and wargear specifically for nightfighting... which only came up 50% chance on turn 1.

I`ve already forgot about night fighting in the past )))
But we won`t get anything that would benefit only us, no matter how fluffy it`ll be.

Maybe some rules would have reference to basic rules, no more, no less. I just can`t see where our night vision could fit. Does this sound like a jike to you? Very Happy

I figure that night vision could just give us army wide ignore 1 point of cover. Which would help offset the lack of ap on our ranged infantry weapons, particularly splinter weapons, a bit.

Most of all the other codexes are using the same art as before so I wouldn't let that make you think our codex will be of any less quality than the rest.

In regards to people saying there is no Vect in the codex;

It's important to bear in mind that just because Vect isn't in the codex, doesn't mean he won't appear later. That new imperial walker is not included in a codex and presumably must have a datasheet and rules in the box with it. The same can be true for any new Dark Eldar models down the line.

To say the truth, i don`r think we will get new models from now on.
Yes, i`m pessimist for sure. But still, i`m very interested in explanation why there will be no new units for DE. GW won`t give us any though.

A lack of models is a bummer, but the Dark Eldar line is really nice already. Even the finecast bits are nice models, but they obviously suffer from being expensive and monopose. Other armies need model updates more desperately IMO so there's not much to gripe about there. I'd much rather have a well designed codex than new models. Of course both would be better still!

I'm still twitchy awaiting some sort of proper confirmation of release order. The chatter about Dark Eldar being first up means I'll be disappointed if we're last now! Then it won't be long before teasers etc start trickling through and we begin to get a picture of what we can expect.

The main issue I have with the DE line is the special weapons. Are GW really thinking that players field 1 weapon of each on Scourges and Wyches ?

But then again, it forces us to convert stuff, and i love converting. But converting should never be an obligation placed by the non-sense of the kit.

I definitely agree with this! A "sold separately" upgrade sprue would be massively, massively welcome. Considering we don't get enough special weapons to kit standard Kabalites and Wyches, there's no hope of kitting out Trueborn, Scourges etc properly.

Don't give them any ideas. Otherwise they will just remove these options so we don't need to convert special weapons.

If we only had more special weapon choices and could buy kits full of special weapon bits...
Sigh.

I'm honestly worried about this btw. Scourges, Trueborns, etc.. might change

I'm hoping for a rule that lets us charge our loaded transports into combat then have the embarked infantry units pile out to attack. It's depicted in the art all of the time and it would be a cool rule!
Edit:
A way to fix wyches would to A: let them pick their drugs. B: add an additional effect to each drug. Like splintermind increases leadership, but also prevents them from losing more then one model in the moral phase. Grave lotus gives +1 strength and reroll of 1 to wound.
This would make them much better, and it would add a cool element where you tailor the drugs you take to the enemy you're fighting. Making our wyches kind of like witchers! That would be cool...

I think double effect on drugs is too much. They are already pretty solid
'No escape' is good rule for them as well.

Weapons change probably the best option we have. And maybe special cult tactics and rules

I want the new f AoS Dark Elf witch models to be in the Dark Elder book!

I know they won't be, but that sure would make me happy.

Also I am stoked for the Dark Elder dex to finally come out. Some points adjustments, chapter tactics type crap, stratagems, relics and warlord traits will be so fun!

Dark Elder will not be worse that is for sure. I am really excited.

It isn't entirely out of the question as the Thousand Sons had AoS miniatures with a weapon sprue added to their codex. Maybe some will be used for a new Blood Bride Box. Of course this is all speculation and speaking of possibilities.

Allow us to use beasts from the Dark Elves line. Hydras, medusae, kharybdis. Clawed fiend is nice, but not a centerpiece. We need something larger!

This. Little effort for datasheets, and I think they'd be great additions to our line.

I really hope we get conversion kits for corrupted Wraith in the future, Genestealer Cults style.

Financially, would this be considered a somewhat low-effort win for GW? Like, even if the stats are lousy, people are going to buy the models. But I could see revamping the models for 40K being almost as much effort as just designing fresh models (unique packaging, etc. at minimum).

I'm not actually too pessimistic, going by all of their codex releases thus far they appear to be making a decent effort in making good balanced rules for all armies that work well together.
I was really surprised at how good all the indexes were in that respect, i think it bodes very well.

I'd imagine it'd be low investment. The vast majority of the model work would already be done, they'd just need an extra sprue of upgrade parts, spikes, emblems, etc. For instructions, they'd probably just slip in an additional sheet with the regular one for the extra parts, and even if they have to print a new one, it'd be, what, a days work to edit a pamphlet to replace a step or two? Finally, Packaging wouldn't be that big an issue. Most of their stock has been repackaged much, and, it's not too much work to put a painted model under dramatic lighting and snap a picture or two.

I really do feel like the AoS Dark Elf line could be added in some places to our codex like everyone has said. I'd love to see the Hydra on the battlefield. Maybe they'd even consider making the Witch Elf Kit our Bloodbrides. (If not you can always convert.)

(I know it'd never happen but Archon on Black Dragon would be awesome and hilarious)

I was ready and raring to convert my kharib kit into a Talos until I saw Xenos 1 and everyone's reactions to the new edition, haha.
