PostSubject: Rescue mission army list   Fri Jan 12 2018, 02:29

Hi, first time here but i play dark eldar since a long time. I've subscribe to get your help for the rescue mission that is part of a campaign i play with multiple player. We got in-house rules that if a mission says it got few vehicles you cannot have more than 15% of the total point in that keyword, and all unit that are completely destroy are remove from a massive pool points that we decide at the start of the campaign (so if at the end i don't have any points for heavy i can't take those anymore, my lost are calculated)

So now i must rescue my spy with a 1500 pts army list that limits 225 pts in vehicles (same for him). the problem is he plays Dark Angel, for him it is pretty easy. On my side it is not.

For the fist time in 8th edition i think i am going full Haemonculi Coven. But i am not comfortable, i expect a Dark Angel Deathwing but cannot be sure.

Here is my list:

2 Haemonculi with hexrifle, one with relic pistol and the other with master regenerist trait. Both with the famous whip.

3 unit of Wrack, Acothyst with hexrifle and whip and one ossefactor by unit.
1 unit of Grotesque
1 unit of Mandrake
1 unit of Scourge
1 Cronos
1 unit of 3 Talos, two with heat lance
1 Voidraven bomber with missile.

I intend to use 3 command point to get the 3 talos in deep strike with an haemonculi

What do you think, any help is appreciated.

If you know you are facing Deathwing then the best use of your vehicle points would be either the Disintegrator Ravager or Voidraven, and you have gone with the Voidraven, which is a solid start.

Your plan for the Talos wont work because they are not Infantry, Beasts or Bikes for the WWP stratagem.

Units that are especially good against Terminators are:
Clawed Fiends
Meduasae (including with Archon with Huskblade)
Mandrakes
Ravagers with Disintegrators
Hellions
Incubi
Haemonculus with Whip
Voidraven [if you can get a good bomb target]

There are a couple of units on there that aren't normally so popular, so you could come up with an interesting list. I'm assuming you are wanting to stick to Drukhari, because a couple of Craftworlds HQs could go nicely against Deathwing too.

Here is what I would do with those restrictions:

BATTALION DETACHMENT 1495 points
Haemonculus (Electrocorrosive Whip, Parasite's Kiss)
Archon (Huskblade)
Court of the Archon 4 × Medusae
5 Kabalite Warriors with Blaster
5 Kabalite Warriors with Blaster
5 Kabalite Warriors with Blaster
5 Kabalite Warriors with Blaster
5 Wracks (Ossefactor, Electrocorrosive Whip)
5 Wracks (Ossefactor, Electrocorrosive Whip)
5 Mandrakes
5 Mandrakes
5 Mandrakes
Beastmaster (Agoniser)
6 Clawed Fiends
6 Clawed Fiends
Ravager (Disintegrators)

That would use the Warriors out the front for deep strike denial, and if they get a charge in a sacrificial unit. Next wave is the Wracks. The HQs and the Court deep on one side of your defensive setup to counter attack, and the Beastmaster and packs of Clawed Fiends on the other. The Ravager hiding as much as possible.

I suspect the game would likely be fairly quick and bloody, so the mission objectives are something to go for once massive casualties have occurred.

True that Talos are monster and not beast, so i will get out my Talos and Grotesque and one Haemonculi. Will incorporate an archon with 2 Medusa and one sslyth for protection (that is what i have for models). Incubi always did pay out well for me will take those also and on squad of trueborn with blaster (without a vehicle i have to check them so they don't get wipeout easily)

Helion are great models, but you just sneeze at them and they dissapear will incoporate 5 of them just to give another try. The fact they have no AP hurt them a lot. Will also try a beastmaster with 3 clawed fiends. (that is what i got also for models)

Dark angel got some caracther with major aura (maybe best army for aura in the game), one of the gives reroll hit and a 4++ aura. I will keep all my hexrifles you i can try to clear those out. Primaris captain also gives that reroll one to wound. And Belial gives an extra attack on all models and he hit like a truck.

Thanks for your input it does help

Forget the hex-rifles you cannot get enough of them to make a difference. The HQ's you mention have 2+ armor with invun. saves, and 6 wounds. You need 2+ to hit with Haems -1 if he has a darkshroud as his vehicle. 4+ to wound 1 mortal wound on a 6+, the regular wound he saves on a 3+. With 2 shots a turn you might kill one character maybe.

A farseer with Doom and/or a warlock with protect/jinx will go a long way to help. Doom increases splinter woulds by 50%, while jinx on termies doubles the number of splinter wounds they'll take.

I played a game a while back against a character and buff heavy Dark Angels list. They certainly can get some impressive boosts with Azrael and Darkshroud in particular.

Lets look at the Hexrifles vs Azrael contest.
Hexrifle on Haemonculus
1 shot × 5/6 hit × (1/6 mortal + 1/2 wound × 1/3 unsaved) = 5/18 unsaved wounds to Azrael
Shots required to remove 6 wounds = 21.6
Even if you had a supreme command detachment of 5 Haemonculi with Hexrifles it would still take 5 turns on average to get rid of Azrael. Unless you can bring other units to bear on him, the Hexrifles are basically a waste of time.

Just played my game. He did come with a Deathwing has expected with 4 character including Belial. Two character was able to reroll charges. He also had a unit of 10 terminators pretty well equip in shooting including 2 assault cannon.

Like you said hexrifle was not great, did not get a lot of wound out of those. My 3 clawed fiend with beastmaster did manage to kill 3 terminator but they did not resist the counter-attack. Lots of power fist and mace with 3 dmg and d3 dmg.

My wrack troop did nice, they uphold some shooting, and the ossefactor was really good, but you have so few of those. I did back them with an Haemonculi and a Cronos. Surprise, my Cronos has manage to kill a caracther with the spirit vortex / syphon and one termin on the Overwatch. Those 6 with d3 wound did help.

I had 10 hellions with Lelith behind. But he used a stratagem that he use on his terminator unit that arrived in deep strike for 3cp he can shoot before the shooting phase (so he get to shoot twice in same turn) that did destroy lots of thing, including Hellion (there are such a fire magnet) and Lelith.

Blaster were the perfect weapons on scourge and kabalite, that did work. MVP was the Voidraven, i had 7 mortal wound to that big terminator unit plus all the shooting (equip with dark scythe and missile)

Conclusion: I've lost the game, but it was very interesting to have few vehicle. i was surprised by the haemonculi part of my list, I will try more of it in the future. Thanks everybody

Sounds like some interesting learning from that game.

Sounds like Hexrifles didn't justify their existence, which I would expect.

Clawed Fiends did well to get 3 Terminators down. Bit of a mismatch with a roughly 100 point unit charging a 450 point target though. If you had the models to have two big squads of them it would be interesting to see how those would have gone.

Sounds like the Wracks, Haemonculus and Cronos did OK. I wouldn't expect much damage out of them, but they should be ok at sitting on an objective.

Hellions as you suggested are just too squishy. They would do some decent damage if they get to charge, but risks of failing are pretty high.

Voidraven against the big Termie unit is a fabulous target. They are a great choice against a deep striking melee unit. I would skip the missiles in favour of some more units though.
