 How many is enough?

For a 2,000 point game, how many Dark Lances do you all think is enough? I've got 14 Dark Lances/Blasters in my list and I'm wondering if that will be enough to take on most lists.

Depends on what you're up against. Against infantry guard that is overkill. Against tank guard you want more. and so on and so fourth.

I take 1 DL/dissie per 100pts.

At 2k i'd take something like 13 DL and 7 dissies.

Ah so then I'm not doing to bad. I have an Air Wing detachment where a good number of those Dark Lances/Scythes are. I don't really like Ravagers so I buy flying ravagers, lol

Because of the damage and range-drop, I've been rating each Blaster as worth about 1/2 a DL, maybe 2/3. But then one of my main opponents is an IG all-tanks-all-the-time guy.

The 2K list I ran last week had D6+14 Dark Lance shots, 12 Pulse Disintegrator shots (Tantalus) and 11 Dark Reapers. That was perhaps slightly overkill though and left me rather short on bodies.

I do have a Tantalus that a friend bought me. I can just never seem to fit anything else I want in a list whenever I include it.

14 Dark Lances, 3 Disintegrators and 5 Blasters at 2k for me. Against some armies that feels like more than enough, but against others (particularly tank-heavy Guard) it's nowhere near sufficient to take them out.

My last 2k list had 17 dark lances, 4 dissies and 2 blasters. This was against an ork hoard, with very few tanks. It felt like a little over kill when facing him but, 2 turns in he almost had not AT firepower left to hurt my raiders and the only problem was staying away from the teleporting hoard. Which I was only somewhat successful at.

I used to have a set minimum of 16x lances but have found a new list where I only have 13x but more dissies. Blasters feel like a waste of time to be honest, that D3 damage is too random, I ised to use them against termies but everytime I rolled a 1 for damage I would die inside.

Yeah i see no use for blasters either... they need to drop to 10pts.... or become rapid fire.... or become Sniper weapons on Archons and trueborns Twisted Evil

Yeah, my friend and I were doing some comparisons and plasma guns are pretty much flat out better than blasters in all circumstances, being more flexible and potentially more powerful, with plenty of ways to mitigate the one downside.

While were on the subject, how many Dark Lances do you - not - need to take if you take a Tantalus. Strength 8, -3, 2 Damage each is pretty nasty in my experience but to take one, I'd have to give up Four Scourges with Dark Lances. Think it's a good trade?

given you can throw in 3 5-man trueborn squads with lances and blasters, plus have somewhere to stick your archon, plus the heavy disintegrators... hard to say.

It's actually for a Coven heavy list so it'll be a Succubus, Five Incubi and Ten Wyches. My Kabalites both have lances and are riding in raiders. I'd have 10 Dark Lances in a 2,000 list in addition to the nasty dissie cannons.

What coven units are you running with Incubi and Wyches?

10 lances can be enough against a low number of vehicles or creatures but, many factions can put more on the board than ten lances can deal with at lower points than 2k.

That list has literally no Coven Units.

Yeah, Covens counter to armor was close combat and to a degree still is.

I don't like missing 7th but, clawed fiends out class grotesques currently. Even then those units don't match up against last editions Talos.

I never ran a corpsethief claw but, I can see where the coven units lost going in to 7th.

I'll keep waving the banner though as we have yet to see our 8th edition codex.
