PostSubject: Help with armor color for Fire/Ice conversions   Sun Nov 05 2017, 17:32

I'm now trying out color schemes for a potential army, mostly enjoying the modelling side thus far. I'm making some sort of crone-world themed army, possibly using DE or Eldar rules.

I like how the fire/ice feel went on the warlock-type character I converted up, as a goal for where I'm trying to go with the army.

The challenge I'm finding is the black armor just seems a little uninteresting. I really like the purple cloaks and gold highlights, but the armor just feels lacking. The problem is that making the armor more colorful seems to take away from the mutations. Any thoughts on how to spice that up? Or if the brighter fire/ice arms would still work on some of the brighter armors?

Other questions:
What color for eyes?
How about the guns?

I think the orange model in the center is a little more red in reality

Guns should be fire colours and transition to ice where the left hand meets the gun. I like the kabalites ok the left the most, and think if you worked with that on the characters they’d look cooler. Maybe even have the two colours converse to bright hot white and ice cold white in the middle of their armour?

Eyes: either both gold
One orange one blue
Or lighter purple

Armor > go for a classic kabalite edge highlight (kab & sybarite green) or a classic black (dark reaper > eshin grey.

Eyes > green

Guns > just treat the black the same as the armor

Nice conversion & effect.

Ooh like the look of these Smile nice idea too. Personally my favourite is the split guy on the far-left.

If you're looking for a quick way to make silvered metal look good then I'm a fan of painting it flat-black and then drybrushing Leadbelcher streakily over the top, followed by a splash of Nuln Oil. It's all I ever do for silver metal armour now. Looks like this:
