Correct me if i'm wrong, but i'm not sure Adeptus Mechanicus has THAT much more info on their forgeworlds than we do on our Kabals/Cults/Covens. And they have 7 subfactions.

I think every codex will have 6+ subfactions.

Do the Death Guard have any subfactions at all?

Adeptus Mechanicus have only been a playable army for a short time, and even before they were a playable army their lore was still more established than that of the Dark Eldar.

My main point is that looking at the Guard codex and seeing it as an example of what is to come for DE is perhaps a mistake because Guard have a lot of fully established regiments that were always a shoe in for special rules.

I am not saying I don't expect some additions...like Prophets of Flesh for example.  But I dont expect us to be on a par with Guard.

Nope, there's a slight variation between the Death Guard and the Daemon Hordes varient, but they can interplay and does not stop any strategems or special rules from taking effect.

The problem would be that while for imperial guard they have quite a few units that won't benefit (psykers, abhumans, (tech)priest etc. Most units can be from any regiment. This means that they can have all of them and keep their regimental status. This will probably go for units like scourges.

I fear cults/kabals/coven are instead done in a similar way like the tempestus. Which means we can only have a detachment if all units are from the same "regiment".

The issue comes that we will then get 2 or 3 of each (2/3 kabals + 2/3 cults + 2/3 covens) for a total of 8 probably. Which is not as much variation in style, but still a lot of variation on the tabletop, since most armies will include not just one but 2 or 3 houses. Unfortunately if they keep it similar it means each detachment must be either kabal or cult or coven but you can no langer mix and match.

If we wind up needing to take a full detachment of them to get Kabal/Cult/Coven bonuses then I just hope like hell that we get cheaper HQ options.

Or make the ones we have worth the points we pay for them ...

I don't think we will have to take a HQ choice for each Kabal/Cult/Coven.

I think we are more likely to get specific strategems for our different factions.

THere is a long backlog of information on the various Forgeworlds. Some of them are vague to the dsame level of our Kabals, but others have been explained in detail in the past.

The army to look for to see how they will handle subdivided armies is Daemons of Chaos. It has the four subfactions (5 if you count undivided), so it is likely to demonstrate how they do it.

I am thinking that you will pick a faction to be dominant, and possibly a subfaction within that to be your dominant subfaction.

The numbers updated for Astra Militarum:

Taking averages from those armies with subfactions (which we can HOPE for), that would look like 3 Special Rules, 8 Sub-Factions with specific Strategems and Relics, 10 Universal Strategems, and 7 Relics.

No chance

Try compare the numbers with no subfactions and you will be closer.

Oh, I think theres a good chance we'll get sub-factions, at the very least a seperation of Strategems and Relics for Kabals, Cults and Covens.

I don't know.
I am really hoping for 8 or 9 actually, either 3 for each faction or 2 for each faction and 2 nonfaction ones, something like the barons scum which boost most infantry but not trueborn/scourges or something similar.

It's not like subfactions are a massive investment of space or work. They can totally do them as web releases to keep armies fresh, no problem. You need, what? Army Trait, Warlord Trait, Stratagem, relic, and you've pretty much covered it.

One interesting question is whether or not we will get traits that affect our vehicles. I really hope so as we are a vehicle focused faction.

I always really hope to see a Cult Subfaction that allows for vehicle-less armies.
In the "Subfactions wishlisting", i imagined the "Cult of the red gried" could allow synergy between Wyches and Hellions/reavers : wyches of that cult are famous for jumping on and off reavers/skyboards. I think it would be amazingly interesting to use Reavers/hellions as transports for wyches.

It'll be interesting to see what they do with the eldar codex ... Cause the could just as easily separate it by craftworld as they could aspect shrine ... each aspect shrine getting a relic and unique stratagem ( they each have their own named HQ so this isn't that far out there ) and then a couple general relics and stratagems ... It would encourage taking multiple aspect shrines instead of just dark reapers and the occasional fire dragon. Or they could do both ... Aspect shrine stuff and Craftworld stuff ... But that would break the Asaryani down to very specific levels for stratagems ... Eh you never know ...

I think it will be craftworld subfactions, and 1 unit stratagem max per Aspect Warrior.

Seeing how the IG got their doctrines I would love to see a version of that for DE but for poison weapons, considering we use lots of different poisons and can make alot wouldn't be hard to believe a few units going into raiders with different type of poisons, like a type that gives us 3+ to wound for T3/4 anything above 5+ would make dealing with hordes easier and anything lower Toughness but would make us suffer against higher toughness units, just a random out loud idea.

But would be nice to use different poisons for different armies and situations but that could always easily be made as a stratgem for us.

The Facebook community announcement said seven. It's probably a typo but could mean there'll be rules for Corsairs and Exiles or something similar.

Hmm...when a codex is called Codex:Craftworld you would assume this is a codex for Craftworlds only.

How many different forge worlds did they give rules for in the Adeptus Mech Codex? I would think that would be the best indication of what we can expect in the DE Codex.
