The plan was to get the enemy warlord to fail psychic tests and die to perils. Failing that, lure them across battlescape terrain so they fail the dangerous terrain test and die.

It worked.

Maybe he got booted from the tournament but they felt his playing was still better than the DE guy?

Are they playing Cards? b.c there is bonus VP for WL kill and if it is ITC? They have Firstblood and "1st turn kill" i believe (at least they used to i believe)

Just gonna quickly report in. Played Guard again last night, plenty of Russ', Chimera's and Vet's with special weapons. Yeah he gave up turn 3. So if I were to keep this reply on topic, yeah the original letter was pointless, which is the impression I'm getting from OP.

Now I am confused. Wasn't OP's point that even if we get everything that has been asked in the letter we'd still be crap?

But you tabled an IG player turn 3 with just the Index. Seems the opposite of what OP is saying?

Question

Maybe it's just how I interpret it. He says the letter would keep us at bottom tier when we really aren't, this tells me he thinks the original letter was pointless. I agree, so far I don't need any benefits, granted there are things I agree with but I'll say it again. Daft AP and/ or mortal wounding splinter weaponry is daft.

Yeah ok, that's not how interpreted it at all indeed. Very Happy

Congrats on the win by the way! Please write a bat rep in the realspace raids section, I'm curious how that went down.

With pleasure, there is one from last week on Tuesday from my first game against Guard since their new codex. Taa oad. Glad to see someone who is curious to how I won as well as I did and not start blaming every other eventuality to try and take away the fact that I won.

Congratulations on the win but I'm afraid you've misunderstood the point of this thread. The OP is saying that even if we get everything we've been asking for in the letter it won't be enough to put us on par with the codex armies. I totally understand that this doesn't mesh with your own experience but as I previously said, your local meta does not reflect the wider state of the game. Maybe you're just an exceptional player?

Incidentally, the guy who won the GW GT is a very good DE player but he took SM to the tournament and won.

I think my interpretation of this thread is correct, it is exactly as you put it in your second sentence. I object to it. Maybe what I'm experiencing is different? feel free to check out the BR I've just put up. But what I've been experiencing is a major win in most of my games as early as even turn 3 or 4.

Maybe my first response was to poke a little fun, as seeing everyone complain and put forward daft ideas is starting to annoy me. I've played DE for 5 years now and I've experienced my fair share of pain and disappointment. But even in 7th ed' I was winning/ on par against the likes of Tau, Guard, Ad' mech', Eldar and Marines, The Tau and Eldar player is exceptionally good. Tyranids never stood a chance. The wins mostly started to come in when I ran a very tough 14 model Coven list.

Maybe I am? Maybe it's just my lists or even my luck. There's always more than one factor to my games and I don't forget that. I guess the response I got was to be expected, but hey we're all looking for a good time.

I would love to get into a tourn' one day and prove that we could pull it off. I've never really bothered with painting much in the past but 8th really inspired me to do so and I've been making good progress so far.

LOL URIEN you can't say we are strong and then say you agree with the OP who says we are too weak and then claim you are making the same point about the letter we sent! hahahaha  lol!  lol!  lol!

First of all, I can't say I agree with mortal wounds from Splinter weapons.  You have to bear in mind that the letter was an open discussion and there was input from many posters...people will always want different things.

The vote that was open for all to cast on showed that what people wanted changing the most was our HQ's and then our special weapon rules.  That's how I remember it.  The changes suggested were more tweaks than huge advances in what the weapons or units could do.

I would say the letter was rather reserved it what it suggested and certainly in no way at all capable of making DE OP...not a chance.

All on here like to hear of each others success on the table and welcome the discussion and sharing of tactics etc but by insisting that we can stand our ground with a good IG player means you are not only in disagreement with us but with the whole 40k community.

I'll say it again. My interpretation was that the letter was pointless, I agree. It was pointless in the sense that I don't need anything extra like stronger heat lances and such. What I agree with, with the letter and fellow DE players on this forum, is that it would be nice to have some customisation. Maybe I am in disagreement? Probably because I've beaten Guard so easily.

More customization would be great also for GW as it would allow them to sell more models.

And how do you know that the letter won't help bring better customisation?

I have to be honest and say that I find your attitude rude. So you have won against IG...so has everyone else. What you are not listening to, and have no idea or experience with, is how competitive DE are in tournaments...I would suggest you expand on your own personal experience before you criticize peoples wish listing on here.

Because the codex has probably already been written, example being Ad' Mech' misprint/ wording error in both the index and codex. Ok so you're saying everyone has beaten Guard? So why is there a thread about Guard not being nerfed and how to deal with it and why are people saying we're bottom tier. doesn't add up too me. DE are competitive? Didn't we just come like 60th or something in heat 1? Very contradictory.

Winning once against an army does not mean that you're going to consistently win against them. I don't think I've seen anyone on here, or on the internet more broadly, claim that any faction is literally unbeatable.

Read my previous posts. I don't claim we're unbeatable. Just not as bad as some of you portray us to be. But anyway let's end it here, I've said my part and there's no need to let this lead to a full blown arguement

Ok, but that doesn't imply we're unbeatable. Just pointing out "guard weren't nerfed" to "everone's beaten Guard".

So you beat IG who were using a heavy vehicle and elite list, AKA the thing we are strongest against. Congrats.

So let's go back to "Guard weren't nerfed" and "DE are bottom tier". See where I'm coming from?

I firmly believe that it was the OP and only the OP that stated we were bottom tier.

You have mistaken absolutely everything...

1. OP said letter was not going to be enough to improve us from being bottom tier.

2. We said that the point of the letter was not to make sweeping improvements to the army in general but to show how there are some unbalanced weapons/units in the index that if revised would be helpful basically.

3. You say you agree with the OP, that we are strong enough as it is because you beat a guard player...which in itself is hilarious because you are in fact in more disagreement with the OP than anyone else.

We are not bottom tier at all
We have a strong army
It is a bit of a one trick pony as it currently stands which makes it a little boring/predictable
It will always struggle against competitive hordes at present regardless of individual successes

@Dark Elf Dave wrote:

1. OP said letter was not going to be enough to improve us from being bottom tier.

As the OP, let me re-iterate

If GW gets the letter, and implements every single change this forum asked for, we WILL be bottom tier.
Do any of you actually SEE what is coming out in the codex armies? Outflanking titanic tanks that move with no penalty, can assault and hit on 2's, shoot while in combat, etc?
And you think giving a grotesque 1 more wound will solve the inadequacies against this type of unit?

Didn't the preview of the new Eldar book throw out tidbits like a wraithknight doing 24 stomp attacks?
But dropping a point or two from a heat lance will make it all better?

So, when all the codexes drop, and everyone has their books, I will be SO freaking pissed if GW just gave us what you all asked for. Because YES, we will be the worst army in the game if it pans out that way.

But, that is just my opinion, which I guess gets canceled out by one guy playing a pick up game with some random player and winning.
So what do i know? tongue
