PostSubject: Shadowfield procedure   Sun Sep 24 2017, 00:44

Last edition there was a nice clear Shadowfield rule about ceasing to function at the end of the phase after a failed save. The wording is now changed to the first time the invulnerable save is failed.

There is also no longer a rule saying attacks from the same source happen simultaneously in 8th Edition.

At my local gaming club, I noticed the Shadowfield saves being done one at a time, with the 2++ gone after the first fail (not in my game as I haven't fielded my Archon lately). That didn't quite feel right to me, but I can see the rules there being a bit murky.

So the question is:
If a unit of Conscripts scores 10 wounds on my Archon, do I roll 10 dice simultaneously and have two unsaved from rolls of 1 (Power from Pain still to go), or do I roll individually, and after the first dice comes up 1, roll 9 saves against the 5+ armour?

Technically speaking, the rules for resolving Shooting attacks say:

"Attacks are made one at a time, or, in some cases, you can roll for multiple attacks together."

So technically, each shot should be done one at a time, but to makr things simple we roll them all together.
So each Shadowfield would be made seperately, and it fails when you fail the roll, and further (or leftover) shots would not hit the Shadowfield.

I think you have an important word incorrect (from Page 181), although I don't think it changes your conclusion:
Quote :
4. Resolve Attacks
Attacks can be made one at a time, or, in some cases, you can roll for multiple attacks together

The use of 'can' suggests rolling multiple dice is optional in any case, and presumably that should be the shooter's option, which would mean the saves should be rolled one at a time.

Ok, got that word wrong. Apologies.

However, a better example:
p179, "Fast Dice Rolling".
"The rules for resolving attacks have been written assuming you will make them one at a time."
blah blah blah
"Your opponent can then allocater wounds one at a time, making the saving theow and suffering damage as appropriate."

I take that as saving theows are supposed to be taken one at a time, as though each shot were being resolved one at a time.

Fair enough, can't argue with that reasoning at all - roll saves individually until the first fail.
