Dark Eldar have a rather large prevailance of rapid fire weapons, and no units that can charge after advancing. This begs the question: How often do DE players actually advance?

Sometimes, I think we also have quite some assault weapons, mainly splinter weapons and the dark lance on infantry is not.

So silly enough I most often advance with the fast units.
Most of our vehicles can advance if you need that little bit extra move (mainly to get an objective either late game or turn 1/2).
My HQ usually advances first turn (often more) to keep my army together.

Sometimes Hellions advance to jumb in cover/hiding (they have assault weapons).

And then the things, that happen if something goes wrong:
Blasterborn after losing their transport (those 18 inch means that a move+ advance can usually get them in range)
Wyches, (sometimes a unit get's without a transport or their transport dies) the extra move is often feeling mandatory turn 1 when I cannot charge anyway.
Scourges don't often need it, but except for dark lances all their weapons are assault.
All coven units, they don't care about shooting much and have assault weapons
Sometimes the reavers, they move quite far, if they advance so can actually get objectives on the other half of the board if I need them and they are not contested.

In the first few turns, quite often when it comes to units like Talos. They need to get up close!

Beasts = almost always turn 1 or 2
Vehicles = when i need to get objectives or get away from the opponent due to DSing etc...

I mostly advance vehicles when they're too close to incoming enemies. Ravagers and Reapers can still fire after the move, so it's an inconvenience rather than a handicap.

I only advance with Beasts because I've yet to find myself in a situation where having any shooting unit move an extra D6" is worth more than having it shoot.

@Icfr that is the thing, it is not about wether you can shoot or not (except a few cases like kabalites/trueborn and venoms). In most cases it is about shooting on a 3+ or a 4+, nearly all our weapons are assault.

What's funny is that they only units that often advance are units without the PfP, making the PfP reroll for advances absolutly worthless.
Except for Pain engines, i guess.

I'm the old man who's still running Venom spam and they're already 16" so Advancing is just out of the question. Were Splinter Cannons assault, then we can talk.

But other vehicles and their passengers with access to Assault weapons are PROBABLY carrying Blasters or darklight equivalents, and I think those weapons hitting as often as possible are pretty integral to our wins. I can see the odd Dark Lance Raider using an advance to get into some kind of optimal range to/from enemy units and that's fine, one dark lance loses some efficacy, but I think there are REALLY diminishing returns for anything that involves 2 or more darklight weapons, and 1-6" on an already healthy movement unit is NOT worth losing fire output

Even with infantry, I almost always find that I only advance to retreat faster.
