PostSubject: 850 Coven List   Sat Jul 29 2017, 05:37

The List I'm considering rocking is here: http://imgur.com/AoD31lj http://imgur.com/M6HRqzG

I want to create a Haemonculus Coven army, anywhere between 500-1000 points (currently 850).
Whilst I want this to be an Army I like from an Aesthetic/fluff perspective, I don't want to get absolutely dumpster-ed by anyone competent when ever I play them. Now simultaneously, I dont mind losing games and I don't expect anyone with a crazy tournament list to be easily beaten (or beaten at all) by this list.

Themes I'd like to keep: - Coven based units
- Liquifier Guns
- Actually that's pretty much it.

Tl;dr: Are  Haemonculus coven lists even slightly competitive/competent? are Liquifier guns terrible? where can I improve on this list?

Edit: I just realised I should probably be using Raiders and Not venoms right?

I would indeed suggest Raiders, as your list is going to have lots of AI and poison attacks in cc due to wracks, but very few AT, so it's always better to get transports that fill the AT duty.

I would suggest Ossefactor instead of Liquifier Guns. I started here a thread about the fact that ossefactor can deal an unlimited amount of mortal wounds to infantry with 1 HP, so it's definitly a great weapon. Liquifier gun, in the other hand... is pretty bleh. The need for autohit weapons in a BS3+ army isn't that great, and the S3, the randomness of the AP (and the number of shots) and the fact that it's more expensive than an imperial flamer, makes it lackluster.

Also, i would suggest considering Scourges. They are not listed as Coven units, but they really should be : they are trueborns that asked (and paid) a Haemonculus for a winged squeleton, they are thus "haemonculus creations", and suffered a mortal operation. I think fielding a Coven army full of Scourges is very fluffy, and serves as the AT that is so scarce in the official Coven entries.

So you would say take something like Scourges+Ravagers for anti tank, Pressumably the scourges would have Haywire equipped? and replace Liquifier Guns with Ossefactors where applicable.

Furthermore I can only assume taking talos' would just be worse than any long ranged anti tank, correct?

Taloi aren't what they used to be. But in a Coven list, they are fluffy, and i guess you can still take them. Same for Chronoi : the reroll to wound buff is pretty good for Wracks.
If you want to go full fluffy, i would even recommend not taking ravagers. You can take 4 dark lances on every scourge squad. You could try Haywire, but it's not very effective, and it's unusable againt non-vehicle. Dark lances, despite hitting on 4' on the move, kill everything they look at.
And Ossefactor is the greatest infantry killing tool in the game Very Happy Not the most broken, but definitly the coolest, and if you take some amount of it you will make Necrons/Harlequins/traditional marines cry a lot.
