So I am curious to see if anyone has done the math to see which combat drugs are best for wych cult units?

Do wyches prefer the strength drug or bonus attack? Maybe +1 to hit (not likely).

Pretty much that with all of the drug users

I mean, that depends on what you're attacking though. Against MEQ, I made some assumptions cause I'm lazy and about to go to bed but roughly 20 attacks with S4, will be about 2.22 wounds. 30 attacks with S3 will also be about 2.22 wounds.

30 * 2/27
compared to:
20 * 2/18

So technically it'll depend on their loadout and if you give the hekatrix an agonizer. With +1 attack, theres also a higher chance of doing damage to something that's T8 or greater.

With +1 WS you'd get only 1.85 wounds.

No drugs = 1.48 wounds

so 2.22/1.48 = 1.5x the damage with +1A or +1S

Looking at +1T, because why not? 20 attacks from MEQ, S4 vs T3 and 4++ will give 4.44 wounds on the wyches.

+1T will reduce that to 3.33, 75% damage normally taken.


I'll leave it there for now, I'll probably calculate the damage done with an agonizer Hekatrix and hydra gauntlets tomorrow. Also if someone could double check some of the math, that would be lovely!

Yeah, unit size and what they are fighting plays a big part

In general, the S drug will be the best bet for Wyches based on versatility. The attack drug is a hellion thing while the toughness drug is great on Reavers

I will have to do some crunching!

Yeah I was thinking along the line of Meq/Geq. I think the extra attack gives slightly better offensive numbers, but st4 is more versatile. Like if you have to fight a big nasty thing

I've had some nice success with +1T on Wyches against Guard. With Las-weaponry being S3, T4 Wyches suddenly become a lot more survivable to actually make it into combat.

In general, I'd say that there is no best loadout. It always depends on what you are up against and provides a nice bit of flexibility.

I did some quick mathhammer a while back and vs MEQ, +1A and +1S work out exactly the same for Wyches. I'd actually give them +1A as more dice give a better chance of achieving the expected result. It also means Hellions can get +1S which makes them wound MEQ on a 3+, which is nice.

Other than a transport failing a charge (or a situation where it died earlier but miraculously the wyches are still alive), in this edition I don't see this as the common use case. Ideally, you are charging the vehicle first to absorb overwatch, and then charging the wyches.

Are you finding this not the case (or, do you need the T for those that survive?)

I cannot find any use for Hellions as they are the first thing to disappear from the table every battle so I have very little experience with them.

If I were to give Wyches a T drug, I would make them Bloodbrides... to emphasize on the 4++ and the fact that with S3 they are supposed to fight hordes.

Same goes with +1S - Brides benefit more than Wyches obviously.

+1A - Wyches benefit more than Brides. Its actually a free upgrade to Brides.

Reavers - obviously S drug is worthless to them.
A drug almost worthless due to low number of models.
T drug is great due to number of wounds and emphasis on T4 base.
+1 to hit can be very good in first 2 turns as they wont probably be in Succubus bubble.
+2 move - obviously move 18 could allow for some T1 charges.

I'd probably go
- Wychs + 1A
- Bloodbrides +1S
(just math things, with the +1A drug, it feels like wyches get +100% Attack, and bloodbrides +50%)

Depends on equipement too. I'd prefer +1A with agoniser, and +1S with power sword.

- Hellions +2M", or +1S

- Reavers +2M", or +1T

- Beastmaster, +2Ld or +2M" (to keep up with flocks/khymerae)


All drugs are good in this edition, and I'd say it's pretty situationnal.
Exepecting a turn 1/2 charge with wyches ? I'd give them +1WS.

Big pack of reavers ? +1T to make them more durable.

etc. etc.
