Hey!

Want to try court units.. Especially sslyth and Medusa, it says they are all characters, so if I have an archon with 4 sslyth, does that mean I place 5 different units? It's going to be hard to get first turn that way..

Not if you are putting them inside a raider I guess. In that way you put down just 1 unit.

Yeah, if you're worried about 1st turn then you really need to get them inside a transport.

And if you want to charge then it's 5 separate charge rolls and potentially 5 lots of overwatch!

Lots of "characters" also pairs fairly well with Ynnari rules if you'd ever want to try that out for a spin. Or if you do a 2v2 tournament with a friend.

*side note* could you imagine if Chaos Characters still had their bonuses from winning challenges? Although it would be hilarious to tie them up for several turns as they get stronger and stronger.

Ok thanks ☺️

I prefer playing pure dark eldar but might give ynnari a chance with this setup ☺️

On another note, do you use transport to eat overwatch? All those new flamers can really hurt..

Usually yeah, there's two decent methods right now.

The first is to have the unit and the raider charge in the same turn. Disembark occurs before movement so this can be a little tricky, depending on how close you got your raider the previous turn and allowed your enemy to shoot at it. But you disembark the unit 3" forwards from the front tip of the hull, move everything up, shoot, and then charge the raider in, moving it slightly to the side if possible, to allow for your main unit to get a clear charge into the enemy.

The second method is to charge your raider into the enemy, keeping it as far away from the main bulk as possible so that on the consolidation they can't surround it. Hopefully the raider endures your fight phase as well as your opponents. You disembark the unit from the CC engaged raider (assuming you're not surrounded) keeping 1" away from enemy units. Fall back with the raider, shooting it's weapon as you go, setting up your opponent for a face full of whatever you fill your raiders with. You can also keep the raider in combat if you don't want to give the enemy overwatch.

I love my court of the Archon. Last game I used 2 Sslyth and 2 Medusae with an Archon in a Venom. It soaked up a ton of wounds. I also gave the Archon a Huskblade and he killed the Necron character that if he rolls a certain number gets ridiculously powerful. So far it has been my favorite HQ choice.

It feels clunky like that. It would be nice if the ssylth could be grouped. Plus, kinda sucks in kill points matches.

You're playing Deldar, the only way you were ever going to win Kill Points is by killing things.

For which I advise gratuitous use of Dark Lances!

Better yet, use Power level for kill points.

@Barrywise has spoken.

Sound the horns and shake the bells, wisdom has been breathed upon the world.

Seriously though, that would be a much nicer way to run kill points and would get rid of the "I don't want to bring too many units" factor.

Although... Thinking about it.

Perhaps that factor needs to be kept as an incentive for tournament players to not simply go for spam builds.
To give a reason not to take 500 Conscripts (or 300 birds or whatever the number was), thus putting an arbitrary cap on the movement phase and potentially helping games run to a smoother schedule at Tourneys.

Which might be why KP's are now a part of all matched play.

But there is already a no unit spam benefit. First turn.
And that occurs in every match.

I just really dislike it as a concept. Kill points based on units just means some armies are 3 points vs 15 points. And before anyone says "yeah well don't take so many units then because thems the rules." It doesn't have to be. Power levels is simple, effective and would solve this issue perfectly.

Knights = 25 points a piece. Triple Knight armies would have 75 kill points bounce

The power level=kill points idea is already in the 8th ed ITC guidelines for the mission: No Mercy.
You also get 10 killpoints for slay the warlord, linebreaker and first blood.

Personally I hate the idea of KP = power... since power levels are all over the place and not even to begin with.

Its also a balance for MSU builds as it is - yes, going first is nice (seize is still a thing remember) but for that 1 mission in 6, I think its perfectly finegiven the other 5 have a clear buff for MSU

Whilst that is completely true, it's immeasurably better than an Imperial Knight being worth the same amount of VP's as a lone Sslyth!

First blood is also a msu balance in this addition. And to a degree so is line breaker due to survivability, although I admit to a lesser extent.

How often do you guys have a game where a player hasn't been tabled and VPs become a thing? Every story I hear from ppl is about a tabling so far, where vps don't make a difference
