But what if the character is inside a unit? Can we target it?

If they envelope them with units there are only two weapons that we can use to hit him with. Choosing the HQ as the target for the Void Raven Bomb after passing over it or with Hexrifles (Hexrifles only if we can draw line of sight.

If you are using other Eldar factions then a few Death Jesters, Illic, and Rangers will be able to target the character.

Edit: Thinking more on it I think the bomb might be a point of discussion though as it would have been the closest as it passed over it (if you lined up correctly) but I could see people saying but where it started and stopped it wasn't the closest target so it can't. This edition (I guess this is the case of all new ones) is going to cause a lot of disagreements.

It will be 4+ in most cases as Crypteks boost it up

So we kill those first lol

I really think that is the new role for our reavers. IC hunters 6 reavers with 2 heat lances, an agoniser and cluster caltrops (yup - hear me out on those)

Get to within 9" of the character and pop off a few shots. If you had to boost to get there, that is fine as we don't want to kill the IC yet...

Then get your charge off. Get a few wounds in etc, and remind your opponent all the while that if he chooses to fall back he is rolling two dice and on a 4+ taking Mortal wounds. We used to be the kings of psychological warfare.

Alternatively, Can see some ynnari scourges dropping in to snipe a character or two. One trick pony but might be worth it....

That's a class idea (the caltrops), had overlooked them for talons. Removing buffing characters is going to be key this edition.

It could force them to make a choice with them other units. Stay within the 6" Bible of the IC locked up or move on and lose the buff. Either way can be a win for us

Playing mind games with enemy ICs and cluster caltrops is still not as good as actually those mortals n the charge, unless you need those reavers locked up in combat for some reason. But when then, surely it's best to kill the IC on your charge, not take wounds back and chance being shot next turn? Talons actually give you those mortal wounds rather than the threat of them.

I'd rather have the threat of it let it disrupt their plans and save my bikes from a turn of getting shot.

The idea is to kill them in their phase if possible.

Who knows though - this is all theory hammer until we start putting dice on the board again

Here's one! If you're playing against orks, bring a lot of trueborn in venoms and as many flyers as you can carry. Then laugh in his face as he tries in vain to shoot you. If he brings a stompa, you can safely ignore it as it will never hit you. Ever. Played a game today and my two flyers (raven with voidlance, razor with dissies) wrecked him unscathed. Shatterfield missiles are also better than expected. I love my flyers again!

My brother is crying because If i can destroy his unit of Necrons they can not come back.

As a Necron player, I actually much prefer the new rule. I hated RP being a glorified FNP in 7th.

The only thing that saddens me is that characters don't get it at all, which is rather depressing. Evil or Very Mad

Anyway, in terms of playing against Necrons:

- Their vehicles have shields that can deflect high-damage shots, so stuff like Disintegrators are ideal for taking them out. Haywire would also work well, but are probably more niche against other armies. Blasters are a better bet than Dark Lances.

- Most of their stuff is really slow. What's more, Crypteks and Overlords will encourage them to bunch models together, so they'll struggle to spread their forces over the board. A lot of their weapons have a range of 24" - so try to stay outside of that.

- The most important thing is to focus fire. Virtually all their units either revive or heal, so don't try to whittle them over multiple turns.

- Be careful - there's a trick with Deceiver and Monolith to get multiple units into combat on turn 1. If it looks like they're going for that, try to screen as much of your stuff as possible on turn 1.

The bomb says in it's rules that you can "chose" a unit it flew over so that would mean if it did fly over a character it can infact target it as it doesn't could as a shooting attack

That's perfectly legal.

What puzzles me is why you'd bother. If the character is a monster (like a daemon prince), then you're looking at an average of 2 mortal wounds. That's not even a quarter of it's wounds.

And if it's not a monster then on average you won't even wound it (you've got a measly 1/3 chance). And even if you do wound it, who cares? A single wound won't even inconvenience a lowly Platoon Commander, let alone anything more meaningful.

Outside of exceptional circumstances it seems like a complete waste of a bomb.

You would also only get 1 D6 against a character.
