Linky

Quote :
The points for units don’t appear on the datasheet but will be elsewhere in the same book. This is because you don’t need them to play if you don’t want, which frees up room to include more rules for weapons on the datasheet. It also means that, in the future, points for units could change without invalidating existing books – so if one unit or weapon starts to dominate tournaments, or certain units don’t seem to be carrying their weight in competitive games, we can address the balance

Here's hoping for a living ruleset!

Someone wake me up, I must be dreaming!

EDIT:
On second thought, leave me alone! I like this dream.

Power levels sound like a great bridge for new players, and I plan on seeing some pretty sweet campaigns around them.

No new info... Summoning was assumed to work this way... basically Side bar DS like in AoS.

We were told day one there will be 3 ways to play and one one of them with points, one with a power level.

Yawn.....

But isn't it new info, that you don't have a side bar per se, but rather the ability to summon whatever unit you want onto the battlefield, points permitted? So rather than putting a handful of units to the side from which you have to choose when summoning, you could – if I'm understanding this correctly – simply field some HQ and Core units and then choose the rest of your army composition mid-game, adapting and reacting to your opponent and the battlefield! Right?

Its the same for AOS. Its just DS a unit out of you book.

Thats a cool idea but your still paying for the points, everyone assumed it was turning into this, so more or less just confirmed whats been being said.

I was just hoping for some new info is all. These teasers are fun and neat and I love GW for doing it, but they are just milking it now lol.

Summoning just got worse because we're playing Sigmar in Space. The only reason daemons were good was 2 formations and their ability to regenerate lost units over time. This just made that army less fun.

From the perspective of a general sending in reinforcements, being able to change your army composition mid game is astounding but logical. Oh I lost a ravager early game from some lucky dice? Good thing I left a slot open to send in another one.

Edit: that's specifically for summoning, nvm.

Summoning tho shouldnt be DSing any unit you want. You already paid the points with the sorcerer(s).

Summon should just have higher risks and restrictions, like a 1/3 change to lose the Psyker and 1x use per game per Psyker.

Its still a cool and better idea for sure, but I think they could have done it more fun Smile

It would be a good time to bring back the 3rd edition-style webway portals, and use this mechanic for them.

Of course, I'm not expecting that to happen... at least, not for the initial 8th ed launch rules.

13 pts for a tac muhreen is an absolute steal!

Consider all the buffs they've got already and the many more incoming.

Of the three different game types I'm most excited for narrative play. Anyway of bringing more narrative/lore onto the tabletop is ok with me

It would have been nice for some comparison points to have been mentioned. If a Marine is 13, then a Wyche should be like 6-8 and a Fire Warrior like 8-10 just ruff guessing. Still need a bit more information on how the game works, but from what has been mentioned so far, marines are killer, and cheaper than before. Hopefully they actually aim for balance.

Marines are the same price... and you cant say the Wyches should be X points because we don't know their stats and rules. Ditto on pretty much everything!

It would have been great to get a range of unit prices with this but alas

I said I was guessing, and off of the available information, since many stats haven't changed, what my gut is telling me. So far the rules have not been particularly kind to most of the Dark Eldar units, so unless we get 9+ movement on wyches, the bonus for the pistol doesn't make up for their weeknesses to shooting, and the buff to overwatch.

Overwatch has not changed? What buff?

We also don't know if the wych dodge rule is being changed to make them able to endure said overwatch

The ability to fire overwatch multiple times from the same unit until you're locked in combat.

That buff.

Wyches will be able to shoot in cc with pistols, so that's at least something.

And this is why im hoping for corsairs update! That and I hope they keep their same gameplay fluff/detachment system.

Yes, and they can get broken away from and nuked by other units shooting. It helps, but not that much. So far, it is more negatives than bonuses for Wyches, just off of current information.

Well we havent seen all the rules yet. Shardnets might prevent that, 4++ might always be there etc....

Didn't it say somewhere that if a unit falls back, the unit they're falling back from gets basically a round of free shooting at them as they run away?

The unit that runs away cant do anything for a turn. But the rest of the army can still shoot you.
