So how does everyone transport their army?

With all the bits that stick out and about, i haven't quite figured out what's the best way to transport them. Does anyone have any advice?

Battlefoam. Battlefoam precut. Best way to transport DE imo.

I bought a set of bank bags with rigid cash boxes at auction, then put magnets in my bases and steel sheeting on the bottom of the boxes. Carrying capacity of $2000 or so worth of Battlefoam for $32.

That is pretty inventive, but if it took a strong knock in transit, couldn't some of the magnets get knocked loose? That would be my only concern vs. battlefoam.

That said, the price difference might be worth the occasional model repair.

For small plastic the thicker magnets are probably sufficient for most bumps. I did something similar for Warmachine. It worked decently well on small metal figures, but something else was needed for the bigger guys.
One thing I did notice was super glue was not sufficient for cold weather. As soon as the temperature hit freezing the transport method went to crap and the magenta came off the models.

I do something kinda similar Jim but I put steel washers on the bottom of the figures and the magnets stay in transport case (plastic storage bin I bought at Walmart for like $6). I have a fantasy Skaven army and found that magnets in the bases could cause issues in large volumes close together. Also using washers helps weigh the top-heavy models down more.

I have a Snapware ornament holder with stacking containers. 3 layers holds almost my entire Dark Eldar army.. I line the bottom with foam and use cardboard for the dividers.

I didn't explain that well. I use a plastic storage container maybe about twice the size of a shoebox then buy a sheet of the smallest gauge steel sheet metal I can find (16g at Lowes is ~$9). Thinner is better as you'll need to cut it by hand with tin snips (if you have better tools, don't listen to me for construction advice). Then I glue rows of magnets down (I find it best to use 2-3 bases with no figures to get the spacing right). Then steel washers are glued to the bases. 1/4" x 1 1/4" fender washers by Everbilt are the exact width of a jet bike base. Bigger washers for bigger models. Same with magnets. The really tiny ones used to swap arms are too weak alone so I use 2 per infantry. Bikes use a slightly larger one (1/5"). Vehicles I used 3 of the 1/5" and regret not using only 2. I have pulled the base off an eldar grav-tank more than once as the magnets' pull was stronger than the plastic cement holding the base on.
The most expensive part of the whole assembly is the magnets which are like $10 for 100 or so. It can hold 40 infantry and 20 jet bikes with no issues.

The only problems I've had are from improperly glued magnets (too small) on a few in the beginning. I've even flipped it end over end out of my van (accidentally) and none of the plastic or resin minis came loose. Just two metal ones.

I think we may have very similar cases TeenageAngst, i use bubble wrap though instead of foam and cardboard. I havent had to transport my army very much yet though, bubble wrap probably wouldnt hold up to more extensive travel.

I highly recommend taking an afternoon to set it up with foam and cardboard. The paperboard they use to frame pictures is perfect, as is the thin foam sold at places like Jo-Ann by the yard. I use 1/2" green foam on the bottom of all my cases, and then use layers of it to protect multiple layers of dudes.

I will definitely take a look at Jo-Ann's next time I'm there. I agree the foam and cardboard sounds like a much better idea.
