Don't hold your breath too early. The German and USA Codices are still available.

Yea this doesn't mean anything. There are many reasons why its not available.

1. They may have just run out and haven't reprinted new ones.
2. Preparing for 8th, all the codexs will probably be obsolete, till they get the new one.
3. Going to paper back.

I have gotten excited too many times just to be let down. It will come when it comes. 8th edition will hit come May/June and I am willing to be DE will NOT be one of the first codexs to be redone.

Marines will more then likely be first.

Hopefully all their grav weapons will become pea shooters and they'll have to retroactively pay for all the free transports they've ever used.

The sooner that turd is off the shelves, the sooner GW can start making reparations for swindling me out of the money I paid for it. Maybe with a couple years of therapy and a lot of well written rules, I can learn to trust again.

Well ... Because they said they are doing away with unit types everyone is gonna need a new codex pretty close right before or after 8th hits or most armies will be unusable, unless the 8th BRB has a chart that converts all unit types down to the three or four that they reduce it to and has standard movement values listed for said unit types there, and it would have to be the same for AP values/weapon strength to show armor mods... but codex order will probably go: Nids/Orks first and second then DE/Necrons third and fourth, Gaurd/Tau and then a huge smattering of spehssssss mahrens and chaos spesssss, eldar (yes this is intentional cause eldar always mess with chaos and imperial space Marines by getting in-between them somehow) mehreens, then slannesh stuff and so on for about Mmm two years then 9th edition will drop and the process will start all over again

I think they will do the chart. Even without actual unit types, I do believe that most units can still be classified in basic terms as "infantry", "Jump Infantry" and Monstrous Creature. Just like we use unofficial terms (MEQ, GEQ or TEQ) to speak about a certain type of unit. I highly assume that there will be only few exceptions that will derivate from this formula (at least for the beginning).

I think they could also just release a reference sheet with an additional faction-specific FAQ for the time being.

If you look at the stats of all DE entries, you notice a very clear pattern that can easily be expressed with some simple rules.

For the time being, I don't see why we can't just use 8th edition unit datasheets and play them with 7th edition rules. There will probably be some fringe-cases here and there, but nothing a FAQ cannot fix.

They may also do what they did for AoS with legacy warscrolls that are replaced when the official codex versions come out.

If they said they're getting rid of unit types, do we know if they mean unit slots like Troops, elites, heavy support, HQ, etc, or if they mean like unit types, like infantry, jump infantry, monstrous creatures, etc. ??

GW is pretty well known for flubbing up their own terminology.

Or what they did for warhammer 6/7 don't remember
They released a small free booklet (3 pages for each army cramped with stats) with all the rules and stats for the armies that you could use till the formal army book came out. this actually worked quite well, but warhammer was a lot less special rules for each unit than 40k is now, so might be both helpfull (to trim down the insane amount of special rules) or painfull (lose a lot of rules people liked). But I am sort of hoping they go this way, it means that some of the huge point imbalances can be straithened out, a lot of the (sometimes flavourfull but often useless) special rules can go. If each army has 1 or 2 quite general special rules (our power from pain/ drug use) and maybe 0-2 on specific units it should be more then enough (most of the rules should be general special rules and not clutter this book, like fleet, darkvision etc)

I completely disagree. It sounds like you just want a simpler system overall. I don't. Simplicity takes away from strategic depth.

But rather than get into the nuts and bolts of it all, I'm sure we can just agree that we want different things from the game, and so we'd never agree on this. The difference is, if they were to change it to be more like what you want, I'd quit playing the game, while if they continued the way I want, you wouldn't quit(presumably, since you play now).

So they'd need to pick up more new players from the change than they'd lose in old players who don't want a simple game.

Alternatively, they could try to improve upon the game and attract new players without oversimplifying things and alienating their current playerbase.

If Armageddon rules are any indication, new eidtion will be a massive shakedown of the rules, so much that old players will feel new.

Old players just feel old! I played with these rules 20ish years ago! Armageddon is (apart from a couple of minor changes) essentially the same version of 2nd ed/necromunda from the mid nighties

Probably just online war scrolls like AoS, eventually leading to hard copies

Do we have any solid reason to believe that they intend to use these necromunda style rules in 8th edition, or is all of this just wild speculation?

There was a newsletter about new edition, where they asked question - how should we develop new edition? They specifically mention Movement characteristic, Armor Save modifiers, both of those things are present in this new boxed game.

I think they want to play test this change via this game.

I thought the rules announcements from Adepticon included the warning that 8e would have movement characteristics being brought back as well as armor save modifiers.

I agree with @RedRegicide that there will probably be online unit data so that no one has to wait for army-specific rulebooks to come out for them to play. However, just like it was with AoS, the online data will do little other than adjust units and equipment for the new game. It will be a little more in-depth I think than what AoS had, because my guess is that even with the initial drop the basic rules for all upgrade equipment a kit comes with will be included in a free online armory section. There will also be one or two formations for every major faction and (I'm praying that) such formations will cost additional points if you wish to use them in Matched play. Points costs may only come with the general's handbook just like it was done with AoS, or the handbook will be the hard-cover book that heralds the coming of 8th edition. If the latter is the case then I think we will see points costs for every unit and upgrade. If there are free formations my guess is they will be assigned points costs and only be 1 or 2 per faction. Later, starting with Muhrines and Chaos Muhrines, faction-centric books will be released with the Command Points bonuses for playing a faction "thematically."

As an aside, I have a slight worry that these "Command Points" will simply be additional points to spend on your force. In other words you can play a smaller army consisting of whatever you see fit or a larger army constrained by theme. I'd much rather have more thematic bonuses the way AoS books are, and I'm optimistic that that will be the case.

Continuing on, while I think some rules will be simplified the overall strategic depth of the game shall remain and increase as new faction books role out. I'm still trying to figure out new combinations for my AoS Sylvaneth army, it's great in that regard. Of course, this is all pure speculation on my part.

AoS can pull off what AoS does because the entire thing is 4 pages of rules and free warscrolls. Everything else is a clever ruse to get your money for unneeded hogwash and make you forget the game was once something deep and enthralling. It's entire purpose is to separate you from your hard earned cash with gameplay and strategic depth that couldn't fill a spoon. It's the wargaming equivalent of D&D 4e, which I also liked because I enjoy watching train wrecks. 40k heading in that direction makes me seriously question why I would continue this hobby since the litany of rules and broad array of options is what makes the game fun to me. It's why I prefer Pathfinder and 3.5e over 5e for instance.

7th edition had tremendous rules missteps that were so bad you could hear the game's ankle's breaking but I'm afraid this next one they're going to look at the General's Handbook for insight and decide to lop the lower extremities off altogether. What's worse, since they've decided to progress the story (in a "story" that's supposed to just be a setting for your dudes) while at the same time using some of the most atrocious writing I've ever seen, it's not even fun to get into the fluff anymore.

I seriously hope the rules trend towards more "common sense" rules rather than just straight ripping off AoS. If something is "supposed" to be out of line of sight behind that forest, then it's out of line of sight. A warrior's gun barrel visible just between the trees doesn't count. That kind of stuff I'd be entirely behind. Making infantry universally 4+/4+ and removing special rules and punting the storyline into entirely new audacious realms just sticks in my eye.
