GW seems to be on the right track with all of their updates, surely they wont undo all their goodwill and make the majority of the armies in the game immune to morale again

I wouldn't be surprised if the implemented a to hit modifier. They already have a similar system on wound counters on large creatures in aos that get less movement and hits the less wounds they have left. If they put a chart on the unit card, it would mean less book keeping.

I would be super happy if they implemented something like that

If the to-hit modifer comes into play then this entry will be redundant but:

Jink is not a "type of cover save." It is a manoeuvre to get the model out of trouble and can therefore be taken against "ignore cover" weapons.
Snapshots or a negative modifier to hit rolls for shooting apply in the next phase for models which have jinked.
The jink value returns to 5+ for vehicles if they are "heavily constructed" (Have any armour value facing of 12 or better).
Jink is 4+ for lightly constructed vehicles (no armour value facing is more than 11).

Honestly we need jink to NOT be Cover, just a flat 4+ unless you have upgrades that say "+1 to jink"

I HATE that jink is a cover save.

Wouldn't mind a benefit for fast vehicles too, in particular fast skimmers. Maybe that's just me dreaming...

Im hoping that leadership moves away from fearless-ATSKNF to something where leadership can be buffed over ten. This protects against small scale debuffs but if say squad got wrecked and debuffed from several sources then torment and phantasm launchers arent completely useless.
Also, being able to reroll combat drugs for how many units with the special rule there are in your army. Anything to make wyches, hellions and reavers more competitive. Giving wyches their dodge on overwatch would also cut it.
Finally, ap1 dark lance and blaster, and something to make shredders more balanced. I'd settle for strength 6 without shred and it never scatters or at least buffs ballistic skill. Shred on a s6 weapon is next to useless in small games against T3-4 enemies and better chance to hit is a better chance to kill.

Can we talk about 40k? Let's talk about 40k.

If you want to talk about the future of 40k you sadly have to look into the abyssal nightmare that is the AoS system and differentiate the good from the bad. Movement values? Good. Segregating fluffy playstyle from competitive ones? Maybe. Inferring the General's Handbook will be the gold standard by which new rules are made? EJECT! EJECT! WE'RE DOWN LADS!

Movement values were in 40k long before Age of Sigmar was a thing.

I don't like how morale works in AoS, so I'm a bit worried about that.

More generally, there's a pattern to the speculation which I think only bothers me because it's so rarely presented as speculation, and that is that whatever the next thing GW does will be just like the last thing they did. The next codex will have the same structure or power level or Decurion as the last one. 40k will get End Times, blown up ("advancing the story") and replaced because Fantasy got End Times, blown up, and replaced.

And yeah, sometimes that's what happens. But sometimes - often - GW takes another right turn. How many different codex structures have there been in 7th ed? Sometimes 40k and Fantasy became more similar, but usually they were different and doing different things in different directions. There was never a Storm of Magic or Triumph & Treachery equivalent in 40k, or Apocalypse in Fantasy.

It's possible that 8th ed 40k will have the same rules as AoS. It's possible it will look more like 2nd ed, since that's the rules set Necromunda was based on, and Shadow War is based on the Necromunda rules. It's possible they'll advance the story and have the whole setting get sucked into a blank hole.

GW has never behaved logically or consistently, I assume because they're insane.

Whatever they make i want this to be it. 2011 i got some new models and a new codex, didnt play for 4 years now theres a new rulebook new codex etc. Now i have a stepson with an army of his own and guess who bought his dex? So we are playing 7th ed forever unless the rules for the new ed are free online with gw blessing. I love gw models and they will always have my business for that. I hate having 3 different books that say "codex:dark eldar" and 2 codex tau with 2 rulebooks on my shelf and knowing i could have got more models instead. This isnt DnD, where the books are the game. Look at magic:the gathering, they make money off the cards, not the rules. Give us free rules, free formations, free dataslates and some more sweet deals like skysplinter, start collecting and GOC, and gw can start selling display cases for all the minis im gonna buy. I want g dub to be there forever but im casual enough to be vexed when i even here the words "new rules" because its done nothing but take value out of the game for me in the past. Ever since third edition its been more balance more streamlining etc but you know what? I played hundreds of games in 3rd ed and had fun with all our fugly old models losing as only a 12 year old dark eldar player can. When i was that age i spent every spare cent on my army and didnt care how balanced the rules were. I did win games against every army i lost against (except orks) but there was still value in it.

The 8th ed rules better be 100% free. #1 priority. Release more finecast in plastic so my models dont have the consistency of warm margarine and the price tag of kits with 2-3x the models. There. Two things GW can do to add value to their game and still get every red cent i can spare and IWILLSMILE as i kiss those dollars goodbye.
End rant.

I've been playing daemons for 2 years or so, same with DE, so I know precisely how the moral works and how it will feel on the table and honestly, its perfectly fine. The consiquenses of failing morale with a non fearless unit in 40k can be utterly brutal, you can lose several hundred points of models in 1 unlucky roll (see necrons) however with most high Ld units your going to lose 3 or 4 models tops, making fearless tarpits a thing of the past while simultaneously giving units of tyranids. Its a good choice imo

General hopes & dreams that will affect DE

"jetbike assault move" removed as it's fiddly dice rolling and time taken up moving miniatures. Instead replaced with 3e style CTM "fire in the middle of movement" so you draw a straight line between two points of cover and fire from the gap.

Morale adjusted in a way so ATSKNF marines aren't just immune to fear weapons.

Initiative mattering more, somehow. A wild idea would be comparing WS vs I to hit, so power fists leave one exposed and Eldar are getting hit on a 4+ at best by anything short of HQ's and assassins.

Removing random warlord traits, if you keep them let people pick so their HQ dude can be personalized or you choose the best option for the opponent you face.

Would like to see splinter weapons reworked. They're strong but I'd like a splinter cannon to do something different than just "like a rifle with more shots". In WHFB poison weapons wound on a 6 to hit and still have a strength value for hits that aren't auto-wounding. My wishlist 8e splinter weapons would look something like...

rifle: 24" s3 ap5 assault 2
carbine 18" s3 ap5 assault 3
cannon: 36" s4 ap5 salvo 2/6

Monsters with high toughness are more resilient to splinters but can still be taken down by troop fire and a double cannon venom is a threat to light vehicles.
