 1500 points vs Tau

Goodday Archons,

I'll be playing my first >1000-point game next week against a good friend who plays Tau. Note: Neither of us have much experience, so neither he nor I are particularly good generals.

We decided to play unbound and try formations sometime later. So I've set up a list that looks like fun and incudes various models that I haven't yet used in our previous skirmishes. The idea was to have a lot of Dark Lances, some Grotesques in Raiders to zoom up close and Reavers, coz I love Reavers. Here goes:

Razorwing Jetfighter with 2 x DL: 140 pts
Razorwing Jetfighter with 2 x DL and 2 Shatterfield Missiles: 150 pts

3 Grotesques: 105 pts
-->Transport: Raider w/ Enhanced Aethersails: 60 pts
3 Grotesques: 105 pts
-->Transport: Raider w/ Enhanced Aethersails: 60 pts

6 Reaver Jetbikes w/ two Cluster Caltrops and two Blasters: 146 pts
6 Reaver Jetbikes w/ two Cluster Caltrops and two Heat-Lances: 146 pts

Ravager w/ triple DL's: 125
Ravager w/ triple DL's: 125
Ravager w/ triple DL's: 125

5 Kabalite Warriors: 40 pts
-->Transport: Venom w/ SC: 65
5 Kabalite Warriors: 40 pts
-->Transport: Venom w/ SC: 65 pts

Adding this up gives me 1497 points. Is there anything you would replace? Bear in mind we're not playing competitively Smile

He is going to have probably 2 blobs of fire warriors if any. You have Grots and Reavers to take care of that. What will the Jetfighters be for?

I would swap one Ravager's DLs for Dissies.

Where is your HQ?

Grots need someone with them IMO.

As we're playing unbound, I don't need an HQ, right? Jetfighters: I think they look cool and I haven't used them before. The reason I planned in so many DL's is to rip through his battlesuits, AP 2 is real nice ^^ Why would you take Dissies?

Do you mean like adding an Archon to the Grots?

I was thinking of using the Grots more to rush up quickly and engage his big guys in close combat so they stop shooting Razz

If you use your jetfighters, I suggest you always use 2 kinds of missiles, even if monoscythes would almost always be better than the necrotoxin missiles. Having 2 kinds of missiles allow you to declare a first wave of missile and see the result before wasting more missiles if the target is destroyed.

against tau with their suits and few vehicles, the neurotoxin missiles are almost guaranteed wounds. 8 of them will wreck a crisis squad because of the sheer amount of armour saves. also great against riptides and crisis deathstars. disintegrators are also very valuable as str8 is hardly better than str5 against most suits, and dissies have three times as many shots. also good point @dumpeal

Ooh, Fleshbane on the Necrotoxin Missiles sounds really good. Wounding on a 2+ after hitting on a 3+... Very cool Very Happy

Blast templates are not resolved on a 3+. You scatter 1D6 - BS, meaning you hit a lot more often than on 3+

Unbound lists still have to have a warlord, right? I might upgrade one of your infantry: Grotesques, Kabalites, or Bikers to have a "sarge" model to act as your warlord so that you get a warlord trait. Non-character warlords don't get to roll a warlord trait.

if i was playing unbound i would run a billion jet bikes. in units of 3 with caltrops. thats just me though i love the hit and run aspect with the hammer of wrath attacks.

I thought about doing that too... But I wanted to use a variety of units. I'll keep that for later Razz

You also would want an IC or something with those grots, because their leadership is really bad.
