Do we know if we are getting a new codex in the near future? I have read rumours about a possible addition to our current with the Fall of Cadia but wasn't sure if a full codex is in our near future.

There is no ETA because there are no confirmed, or even credible, reports of a new codex. It is however fairly certain that we will feature in the next campaign book in the Gathering Storm series (after Fall of Cadia).

Estimated Time of Arrival.

And no, we sure has hell don't have any kind of a credible date. Not even people with "I saw a box on a truck with a stack of cedexes in it!" Yeah buddy, it's right next to those plastic Sisters of Battle from five years ago. Razz

Games Workshop uses codexes as the preferred plural.

Obviously GW doesn't write in English, but instead in High Gothic, like they speak in 40k. The only difference between the two is its codexes instead of codicies

Smelling a whole lotta heresy here Razz

Yeah.... I cringe when I spell it the GW way, but I figure I should keep it consistent. Besides, I teach history/econ and shouldn't be allowed near a Language Arts class. Ever.

The Games Workshop product of an army book entitled Codex: (What have you) is a product named after an in-universe construct.  (The Codex Astartes) As such, it's entirely their purview as to how the fictional codex is made plural.  (And by extension, how the game product should be made plural.)

(Further, even in English, the word codex is a loan word. Despite the fact that it is an irregular plural, there is no confusion to a reader in making it an -es plural, and there is an argument to be made that this is the more sensible alternative.)

((THAT being said, if not referring to Games Workshop army books, I still use 'codices,' but mostly because I have a tendency towards the pretentious with my language.))

Well I'm definitely going to keep using 'codices'. Bad spelling/grammar at GW be damned.

Love the idea of GW being written in High Gothic though Wink I wonder if the wording of some of the rules is lost in translation...

Strangely it still sounds like it might be Eldar and not DE. Hard to say though. I hope that it's for us!

The pre-announcement teasers were pretty clear @Vokaze. this was always going to be a unified Eldar/Harlie/Dark Eldar release. Most likely we'll be able to field them in any of the three factions and also receive a unified detachment that offers a way to build single detachments out of all 3 factions. That is exactly what the imperials got in Fall of Cadia and that's what we'll be getting here. This is not a dark eldar release. It's a unified Eldar Death cult release. If that's not your flavor you always have the old options: clowns, S&M boats, spirit robots and war fanatics, and fairy space pirates.

I like the idea of a 3 way alliance. It makes things interesting. I didn't really follow the imperial story on this arc. Just knew they were using out webways.

In this edition of Warhammer 40k, Games Workshop realizes it's much easier to sell models if an entire 25% of the playerbase can use them rather than about 5% using faction specific individual models, fluff be damned.

This does seem to be the strategy. As a player who plays more for the game than the fluff, I am a fan of this sort of marketing strategy. It allows me to dabble in Harlequins to improve my lists without committing to spending a thousand dollars on a brand new army.

I was modeling Dark Eldar long before I ever rolled dice. If we become super space elf best friends squad overfaction because of this I'm going to mail GW a dog turd with Dark Eldar bits stuck to it. I don't have access to a black hole, but it will be in a box, and I'm sure Vect would approve.

I hope you do this, regardless of outcome. Twisted Evil

As an absolute fluff-hound, I'm happy with this direction as well.

If you want to do Dark Eldar that go around eating the hearts of craftworlders cannibal-Aztec style then that's completely within your gift. However, by allowing people to make combined factions it opens up more doors for making new kinds of fluffy army.

Saying that, I would be pissed if they relegated Dark Eldar to being also-rans alongside Harlequins and Craftworlders, but that's more to do with execution than concept.

From a logical perspective, an overfaction is going to reduce each codex to its constituent elements and lists will be built by determining what parts are going to statistically give you the best results. Warp Spiders, scatbikes, Wraithknights, Shadowseers, Warp Hunters, and Farseers will occupy every slot, with slight but rare deviances.

I don't agree. I think we have more capability to vary our lists than ever before, and that capability is only growing the more modular GW makes the game.

We have the capability, yes, but not the incentive, unless you like losing. Eldar players have the capability to add any aspect warriors to the Aspect Host, but we only ever see Warp Spiders with rare exceptions. Just apply this logic across 3 entire codexes and you're going to arrive at what I spelled out.
