Hello!

I´ve had two great games, where i finally got the Grotesquerie runnin like it´s supposed to, killin infantry marines. Rampage is great addition and if you get 4+ FNP or T6 (like yesterday), they are flying through units! Of course, if you are in the "wrong part of town", fe. against Mephiston with Force on, yep, you done.

My favorite loadout is 3+Aberration+Haemie+Archon+Raider and another unit just 4 x Grots. I leave the 4 in the reserves (so they are fearless coming on to the table) and do some objective grabbing and backyard cleaning with those. With S5, they´ll dispose fe. Rhinos with ease. I´ll keep the Haemie "stock" or give him Scissorhands and the Aberration has Scissorhands (for those Challenges Archon does not want to deal with, like Emperor´s Champion with Insta Gibb on a roll of a 6 yesterday). Archon, is the basic version i use almost every time (Agoniser, SF, Blaster) and he´s the warlord. Black Templar got CRUSHED yesterday (11-6), but i lost to Blood Angels, due to a fact that he failed morale in combat and becos Mah´rines, regrouped an hid his last THREE models in to a building. Then i failed my Dark Artisan 6 inch charge in to the building, 14-12 went the points, but it was a GOOD game. We played the Supremacy cards and they are a nice change of pace, i recommend them, if you are feeling bored with the Maelstrom. Oh, the Raider! Yep, Night Shields and a lance, that´s it. In two games, it has been a tough nut to crack! Making sure, my crew gets, where they need to be.

Question is, how do you run (or do you use) Grotesquerie? Any experiences, good or bad?

I generally use two minimum grot squads with an abberation w/scissorhands. Stick both squads in raiders, haemy with one succubus with the other.
They do good so long as you keep them away from stuff that kills them

Option A
3-4 Grots, 1 with Abby upgrade and Scissorhand, Raider (with Night Shields and/or Shock Prow)
3-4 Grots, 1 with Abby upgrade and Scissorhand, Raider (with Night Shields and/or Shock Prow)
Haemy with Scissorhand and potentially a WWP

Option B
3-4 Grots, 1 with Abby upgrade and Scissorhand, Raider (with Night Shields and/or Shock Prow)
7-10 Grotesques with Abby upgrade and Scissorhand
Haemy with Scissorhand and potentially a WWP

Option B is used in my tournament lists, where the large grot unit is accompanied by a Void Dreamer with a Scatterfield several Aethermancy powers to enhance mobility

Option C
10 Grots with Abby upgrade and a Scissorhand
10 Grots with Abby upgrade and a Scissorhand
Haemy with Scissorhand and WWP

Option C is a WWP bomb list. A second WWP from an Archon or Succubus (or even another Haemy) is required to bring the second bomb in. This list is only viable in non-Maelstrom missions, since it lacks mobility once deployed.

I have used WWP and large Grots unit to DS to enemy back field. It´s great, if there´s like Thunderfire Cannons etc. In one game, opponent had two TFC´s, i dropped beside them, took one round of fire and annihilated them on the next turn.

It´s nice to see, that the Scissorhands is the "go choice" of us all Smile

I have been running the formation barebones for a while (just NS on the raiders, and SH on the Haemi), and it has been kinda Meh.

The issue is that even bare-bones the formation almost reaches 450 pts, which is a lot of Venoms that you are not taking.

The NS are mandatory, but I have been playing around with throwing in an Abby with an Agonizer to deal with all the MEQ that have worked their way out of the woodwork with the new CSM update.

Yep. The point cost is huge. Well, we play 1850p games and it still leaves room for Dark Artisan and five Talos and couple units of Warriors in Venoms Smile

I have tried the DA + Grotesquery, and it is just too many eggs in one basket. Against a few opponents who are unable to kill them fast enough (guard, necrons) it worked great, but against casual MEQ players it would just get wiped.

I have since switched out the DA for a bunch of Venoms, and could not be happier. If you want your transports to survive, you need to overload his AT platforms

What are your experiences with scissorhands on the Abberation and Haemy?

I can't seem to leave the webway without an agoniser for the guaranteed AP3.

Volume of attacks will bring down MEQ. I would rather bring the potential to kill a Walker or pop AV2.

Personal preference, though.

I take the "less toys more boys" approach...

Heamy with sump for fleet if they roll that.
4 grots - raider - sails - heamy and archon or succy (if i take one) go here.
4-5 grots - raider - sails

Weight of attacks wins.

The heamy is expendable, good for standing out front, LOSing wounds around and taking challenges the HQs don't want.
They use their super fast raiders to keep away from stuff that can hurt them.

I usually play 1850-2000pts and i'm VERY happy with them. Twisted Evil

I run mine like this:

Haemonculus, Sump/Scissorhands (depends on other HQ choice)
x3 Grots, Aberration w/ Scissorhands, Raider
x3 Grots, Aberration w/ Scissorhands, Raider

I'll sometimes grab another Haemonculus in which case both will have Scissorhands. If I take a Succusbus w/ Glaive and Haywire I take the Sump for the possibility of Fleet. If there is a unit I need dead the Fleet is nice to have and I can put both characters together.

The Scissorhands are fantastic because of the usual re-roll with poison and the Rending. The Rending helps pop those Walkers that Grots will struggle mightily with.

I don't put Nightshields on because Nightfighting happens 50% of the time and I typically roll on Strategic and can get Nightfighting for sure so I save the 30 points. 3 + the character seems to be the sweet spot for Rampage so I usually keep them at 3. I like the Dessie on Raider too because I expect the Raider to die Turn 2 so less upgrades the better.. which also factors into my not liking the Night Shields.

Sump is really good for this formation, I normally just default to Rampage.

Love, love, love my grotesquerie. Been all stars for me overall.

I run each squad as: 3 grots, aberration with scissorhand, haemie with scissorhand in raider (no upgrades). I grab a second hamie from a cad to stick with the other squad. I would consider agonisors as well depending on your meta. I don't bother with upgrades on the raiders because I think it's a waste of points since it will soon be next to the enemy delivering the goods. I've been able to T1 assault with grots when my opponent moves too close too quickly.

If I have the extra points, I definitely use the Sump. I don't think I've ever had it pay big dividends, but I'd hate for my Grots to get fleet and the haemy slow them down.

Grotesquerie is one of the few units/formations we have that is just really good.

Usually I run my grots

4, Abberation with agoniser, heami with SH Sump
4, Abberation with scissorhand, succubus with Glaive AoM
Both with raiders with night shields

Had pretty good success with them and their killing power, agoniser is excellent for running through marine squads.

Anyone else try running 3 grotesques in a starweaver yet?

too much tax tho... bloody voidweavers.

Army List:

1 Grotesquerie
-3 x grots
-3 x grots
-1 x haemie w/wwp

3x5 troupe (in star weavers)
2x starweavers (in your fast slots)
1x voidweaver
elite of your choice (60-70pts)

just a bare bones spine for the army with the troupes on foot is 665pts. 975 to put everything in starweavers...

I am very suprised people are talking about taking an additional IC to join with the second Grot squad. Half the point of the Grotesquery is that they are Fearless, and dont NEED the IC.

I have been agonizing (hehe) over just getting an Abby+agonizer in the second squad due to all the points. I just hate it when you get into CC with 2+ guys with FNP. Its like hitting your face into a block wall, and IMHO the SH are more to scare the enemy than actually DO something in combat.

Still one of the best units in the army, regardless of configuration. Still think we are better off upgrading the Grots themselves and maybe adding in another Venom over taking an IC for the second squad...

maybe it's a throwback to when they went and tore themselves to shreds randomly if you didnt have an IC? Still, bumping up their turn with a haemonculous turn one so they are fearless helps I guess.

I cant understand a succubus as a decision myself though..

I don't do it for the fearless, but because sticking a succubus with them means they have guaranteed AP2 at high I

I bring an IC only with the double bomb, and only really for the WWP.

I used to use Agoniser, but always clahshed with Termies or an IC with a Artificer armor, hence the Scissorhands. Altough, the IC´s usuall have 4/5+ Invl.Save, the option to rend is always nice. Succubus idea seems nice (i don´t own the model, never tried that Smile ), high Initiative AP2 sounds awesome!
