This morning, I had one of those really annoying dreams where I thought I woke up, and checked a few rumour sites, and there was a new Baron model leaked. And it sucked.

Sigh.

I've had a lot of experiences with people refusing to play at less than 2000 points, and find it easier to get people (not the same people) to play a stand alone board game. Also, a board game would probably still have some new formations and rules for 40k.

Not that I would object to a codex supplement.

They haven't exactly been dogmatic about their expansions lately though, so it also might be something entirely new, different, and weird.

What I don't want it to be is a box of 20 Hellions with a weak formation and a minigame somebody put together on their lunch break.

I'm hoping it's something like Death Masque but for Dark Eldar. That is, a stonking good deal on minis combined with new rules, new formations, and some fluff.

I keep imagining it is going to be a new supplement for the Wych cults and the more generally seedy underbelly of the Dark City.

But I also love the idea of a board game, hopefully something really cool on at least the level of Assassinorium. I mean, having a board game focused on the Dark Eldar might get a lot more people interested in them as well.

Whether its a game or a supplement I'll be happy.
Much cheaper models and some formations, or a bunch of formations and special rules.

Or it could be like the Iyanden supplement with 2 pages dedicated to crunch and 100 dedicated to fluff and pictures of the GW team's armies.

For $50.

I'd be happy with a cheap box of Hellions as I use them for my Exodite conversions Smile

I'd also be happy with a mostly fluff book with a half-decent formation in it (provided it's not written by our Spiritual Liege...).

OPTIMISM!

COme on guys! Its the festive season! Ish!

Gangs could refer to Hellions or Reaver, so lets be optimistic! New Formations for both, slightly better rules for both, and character options for both! Lords on Reavers! Lords on Hellions! Fun boxed game of Reaver/Hellion racing with slaves dotted around the track like PowerUp boxes in MarioKart!

How about errata that makes Reavers troops, gives them a 3+ armor save, and let's each of them buy a special weapons? Just saying.

Yeah. That's too much and not realistic! A unit like this would ruin the game!

I'd say reavers are good enough as they are. Give the hellions some love and give us a HQ on bike\board, maybe with the occasional special rule, and it could be a good start for a new, more efficient army list.

Also, am I the only one thinking DE does not need a defense upgrade but a massive attack buff?
We are a glass cannon army minus the cannon part at the moment.

Nah. We are fine offensively. Not best, but certainly not bad. Some of our units can dish out stupid amount of firepower for the cost. However I would appreciate more variety - not as many autopick units and builds. We are short on formations and such shenanigans too. And our internal balance is not good. And most importantly - we are short on methods to enforce the game we want to play.

I really like the idea of giving HQs an option to take a jetbike or hellion board. A Succubus on a jetbike with caltrops would be amazing.

Then all she needs is a soul trap and she's unstoppable!

I'm curious if people who say we have enough firepower/defense/"Reavers are good as is" have actually played other armies. A Windrider is 17 points, that's only 1 more than a Reaver, and it does all its magic from a yard away. Cloud Dancers are 4 points more but can take stupidly cheap Splinter Cannons making them better than both Reavers AND Venoms.

We need a defense upgrade. As things stand if we don't get turn 1 we can be blown off the table by well coordinated fire. 4 Wyverns is enough to bring down an entire fleet, and that's just Guard shooting. Our codex offers very basic upgrades and they're expensive to the point of insult. People make fun of the Plasma Pistol only because they're probably not aware the Blast Pistol exists. Night Shields only give us Stealth and at 15 points a piece, which doesn't even stack with night fighting. Our Shadow Field is 40 points while the Corsairs is a more reasonable 25. Our bikes only have a 5+ armor save for "reasons" and FNP army wide (in full effect only on turn 3 of course) is useless when they're only T3 and have 5+ armor saves to begin with.

Now you look at other glass cannon armies like the Corsairs and the Harlequins, they're not nearly so bad off. Corsairs are far more mobile and dastardly with their maneuvering and tactics, plus their units can buy decent saves/weapons reliably. They're generally fragile, but not necessarily so, and they're a heck of a lot more functional with how they're constructed. Harlequins are more fragile than Dark Eldar but they're equipped with psykers to mitigate the effects. If Veil of Tears or Fog of Dreams is up, it doesn't matter how fragile your unit is, nothing's going to shoot it. Plus they're purpose built to hide in close combat and move very fluidly across the board. What do we have? Half our army is expensive high toughness close combat units with poison that are very slow, the other half are flimsy poison and expensive Dark Lance units that ride around in skimmers. The two don't coordinate well as there's no real way to move the hunks of flesh across the board faster and no way to get the skimmers some survivability so they don't lose every exchange with scatbikes or Tau battlesuits.

I'm OK with DE defensively.
Speed, cover, MSU and tough coven stuff (grots) is our defence which is as it should be fluff wise.

Offensively we need a decent buff. Not enough cannon/hammer for the glass.
I would buff the skimmers and passenger moving and shooting rules.
Our skimmers and infantry should also have a move, shoot, flat out/run and charge ability.

Reavers are great as is but should have some bike HQs to join them.
