No, it wasn't. And all the art in the 5th ed codex is black and white.

And since Incubi have never been portrayed as other than black and white over the course of 3 Codices and nearly 20 years, it seems unlikely that they'd be suddenly red.

I don't understand where you are getting that thought? The codex has incubi in the gallery painted in a number of colors other than black and white.

Yea but it is inspired by Blanche's images which were in dexes. I wonder if the original one could not provide an insight. Notice the Pauldron, the fur, the stones, the cloak... Is it a coincidence?

The horns are different, but those in the present pictures are reminding me of the symbol of Ynnead - horns above the eyes... which would hint toward the Eldar goals.

I just cant get all this out of my head. Seems more than a coincidence.

@Calyptra I almost totally agree with you, Red is definetly not an incubi (incubus?), Vect and Malys would wear their colours, but Yriel is a different story, since he is an exile from his craftworld and those could be his father's kabal colours (wild guess). Also, is explicitly stated that ALL incubi are black and white or they change from temple to temple? Mine are red and black with white helmet, for example.

I mean as I said, the gallery in codex shows different incubi colors (including red) with the sub text saying they are different shrines.

Ok, I double checked the 5th codex. Although their helmets are still white like every Incubi ever, their armor is painted black with edge highlights in some other colors. I think there's some subjectivity as to whether that is still "black" or not, but without getting derailed by color theory, I still don't think it sets a precedent for an all-red Incubi.

@Logan Frost

Yeah, I'm not talking about Yriel at all. This is mostly just me getting increasingly frustrated with people seemingly ignoring Vect and Malys's colors, and going on about how a guy who does not look like an Incubi looks like an Incubi.

...

Ok, please, somebody show me a picture of an Incubi who looks like the guy in red in literally any way other than having two vanes on his back. Or give me a page number in a book.

I'm not saying that he looks like an incubi but the statement that they are all black is aggressively incorrect.

Our latest codex has no numbers in the gallery but pg. 80 shows white incubi with red helmets. Labeled incubi of the shrine of the Splintered bone.

I imagine the painting guide has more examples.

Yep, the Kabal of the Flayed Skull shows pics of Incubi in bone and red armour from the Shrine of the Splintered Bone.

I'm pretty sure Beckjann (the source of that Deviantart pic) HAS done work for GW, as well as Conquest.

Yep, and a few pages later they're shown in the colours of Malys Kabal of the Poisoned Tongue, whilst their dataslate page has them in Vect's Black Heart colours.

Yeah, a lot of the speculation and wishlisting seems to ignore that there are specific colors for things. Incubi have always been black and white. Vect and Malys will be in the colors of their respective Kabals. It's like people seeing a green Marine and declaring it must be a Blood Angels character, and it makes me wonder what their armies look like.

Actually, let's talk a moment about how the guy in red does not look at all like an Incubi.

Similarities:

-Two vanes protruding from the back
-Segmented, Eldar-style armor

Differences:

-Incubi helmets have horns
-Incubi shoulder plates taper to point, unlike Red's big pauldron thing
-Incubi do not have fabric or sashes around their waists in the style of Craftworlders or Harlequins
-the layered segments of Incubi body plating are curved and come to points, with a distinct breastplate; Red's are straight and laid out in a woven pattern, with no distinct breastplate
-Incubi carry very large, signature glaive-style weapons
-Incubi aren't red

I mean, yes, it certainly possible that GW are changing what Incubi look like, or are releasing special, different-looking, red Incubi, in which case, yes, it is possible that this is an Incubi. It is also possible, by the same logic, that it is a Mandrake.
One correction, the Incubi models do have tabards hanging from their wastes.

Further point of order: each shrine of Incubi is colored differently. A red one isn't out of the question.

It seems much more likely to me that Red is an Archon of some variety, as his whole shtick just screams 'True Kin.'

Given the base the Gyrinx is displayed on - its a large cav base BTW - it cant just be an infantry model. For me - its Exodites.

The older exodite fluff had the nobility in armour not unlike the aspect warriors and the red art we have has a big fur mane which is a more primal feel than the insect sharpness of the DE or the smooth lines of the CWE. Add to this the size of the base and we could easily see an exodite entrance.

Also - Yriel is part of Iyanden again according to current fluff - not a corsair or outcast - so seeing him in red would be out...

Ok since we have moved on to Triumvirate speculation; why would the DE (or whatever we are called now) be taking part in evacuating Cadia and fighting the forces of chaos? It doesn't seem like there is anything in it for us...so to speak

Well Valedor shows us the True Kin are pragmatic enough to think long term, and chaos ascendant just isn't to our benefit. The souls taste just dreadful after all.

I mean think about it, we don't want the imperium to fall. The wolves are at the gates with their eyes on our livestock.

That does make a lot of sense, have to keep the game reserves free of pests

I just wonder how far that motivation would carry us in this fight, compared to our cousins

I don't think the majority of our cousins are acting out of any deep set love for the humans either.

As far as our motivation, well as long as Vect says jump you're going to keep jumping, and he is nothing if not a long-con kind of man.

I think that would be perfectly fine as long as it got us something we want/need. I have no problem betraying the minions of the corpse-emperor.

I keep thinking about people saying the guy in red is Vect or he is one of the characters described in that passage quoted earlier. I find it HIGHLY unlikely Vect is traveling solo with some Black Templars like we saw him in that initial picture from the FoC leaks.

Then, when I think of Vect, the Supreme Overlord of Commoragh, I cannot imagine him being where Cawl and the others are in that red armor or someone else. Simply put, this would have to be his decision process:

"I need to head through the webway and join some bigtime Imperial people. I have two choices with who I want to roll with.. #1 I can go with 100's of Kab Warriors, 100 Trueborn, 50 Incubi, Raiders, Ravagers, and Venoms galore to ensure, I, the Supreme Overlord of Commoragh is well protected and can deal with anything. Choice #2 is I could roll with a small squad of Wyches because they simply will mess everything up we see." (Pauses)

"Call up the Wyches!"

I cannot see Vect bringing Wyches to this spot. Hell we don't even bring Wyches... to anything. I doubt the Supreme Overlord of Commoragh knows something we don't... Or maybe he does?
