Has anyone ran with 4x blaster and 2x lances with a blaster Archon in a raider? If so how often did it work out?

I did a couple of times. I concluded that I didn't like it because the dark lances where almost always snap firing. I also didn't like the dark lance on the raider, and swapped all the dark lances out for splinter cannons (dissie on the boat obvs) and splinter racks. 5 darklight shots within 18", 8-12 splinter shots and 3 from the dissie, within 36". It'll evaporate basically any MC and walker or less but it's really not cost effective for maybe killing a wraithknight, and both variations have an awful time with super heavy walkers.

Then meta shifted towards SHW's after the Cadia related campaign formations came out and I just started dropping wraithguard with a blaster archon instead. Now adays I'm back to HL scourges since at 120-135pts before the archon they don't need to do anything besides kill that 1 thing.

Archon is just 100pts to get them there.

300+ pts for a single unit that can't quite hurt other armies big center pieces simply isn't really worth it. My question for the thread is: If the Trueborn were from a purge cotorie but the archon wasn't, that way their archon was out directing air traffic and granting bonuses, is the squad now worth it's price tag?

I'd say maybe.

I've looked at this from the cost of fielding Dark Light weaponry side of things and (minus the Archon) is actually the cheapest way to field Dark Light weapons - great - but totally impractical as either 4 shots are going to be out of range T1, or 2 shoots (3 if your jinking) will be snap firing due to movement.

Try it, but on paper I'm sure it's what it could be

Well I have the blaster born in a venom right now. However I would like all four of my venoms to stay with 5 kabalite and one blaster. So Im picking up a raider and just figured it might be worth it but was not sure.

Oh I definitely prefer putting blasterborn in raiders over venoms no matter the loadout.

As for the Scourge: I think haywire I better in general for the points, but heat lances are worlds better as tag alongs for a suicide blaster Archon

Other day I took 2 units of blasterborn (only 3 blasters in each tho) in dissie raiders instead of the 2 units of scourge I often use.

Its an extra 70 pts total but I thought the extra firepower and MSU (4 units vs 2) would help against my buddies Decurion necrons.

I was right.

While he was busy dealing with my grotesquerie and reaver units the raiders dropped off the BB in some cover, within range and were then free to roam around melting robots.

Trueborn and raiders provided mobility, MSU and firepower. They never even got shot! Very Happy

So I guess the question I am faced with now is dark lance or diss cannon on the BB raider?

It would really depend on the rest of the army comp, right? If you need more AT, then the DL may be the way to go, otherwise a dissie saves on points and can still do some damage.

Transports and their passengers can shoot at different units can't they?

Means you can hit tanks with your darklight stuff and still have 3 AP2 shots at 36" so you'll reliably be able to hit something (and save on 5pts!).

Currently (4 venoms kab+blaster) (6x scourges 4×HWB) and (6xmandrakes) is what I got. I plan on picking up 2x razorwings and 1x reaper. The raider is already on its way for my blasterborn and archon

Wait you can do that? I thought you could but have been told repeatedly I can't. Can someone confirm this? Because if this is true cheers but I want to make sure.

99% sure that a transport and the unit can indeed, shoot at different targets.

Seconding that confirmation. If no one sends you a citation before I get home with my book I'll cite you a page.

Of course they can shoot at different targets. That is the reason why 5 Warriors with a Blaster in a Venom are viable. Kill Infantry with the Venom and hit on a tank with the Blaster.

One of my favorite, although expensive loadouts, is 3 blasterborn and 2 splinter cannon true born, in a dual splinter cannon venom. Drown them with poison dice, and you also have 3 darklight shots. Murders Marines, and can even take down terminators. Also not bad against blobs.

Tons of shots at long range, and if they get close they get punished by the blasters. Love this loadout!
