PostSubject: 1000 Pts Army List   Mon 5 Sep 2016 - 12:01

Hey, I'm muddling my way towards a 1000 point Dark Eldar list. I really like the massive firepower output of the Dark Eldar as well as the glasscannon nature of many units. I'm looking specifically for advice regarding bases I haven't covered with this list. (More anti-armor? Less transports? Should I use a formation?)

Edit: Just using a CAD.
+ + HQ + +

Haemonculus w/
-Agoniser
-Liquifier Gun
-Scissorhand
-The Animus Vitae

140 pts.

+ + Troops + +

5 x Kabalite Warriors w/
-Venom as Dedicated Transport.

5 x Kabalite Warriors w/
-Venom as Dedicated Transport.

190 pts.

+ + Elites + +

3 x Incubi w/
-1 x Klaivex
-Venom as Dedicated Transport. (Will likely throw Haemonculus in final slot.)

10 x Kabalite Trueborn w/
-4 Blasters
-2 Splinter Cannons
-Raider as Dedicated Transport w/ Dark Lance and Nightshield.

420 pts.

+ + Heavy Support + +

1 x Ravanger w/
-Dark Lance
-Dark Lance
-Dark Lance

1 x Ravanger w/
-Dark Lance
-Dark Lance
-Dark Lance

250 pts.

Total: 1000/1000

Things I'm not sure about
-Incubi, I feel like with the loadout I'm using for the Haemonculus I either want to take more Incubi or like Wychs or Bloodbrides or Mandrakes or something to take advantage of throwing myself along the Power Through Pain table.
-Ravangers, Should I have tooled these so heavenly in the direction of anti-armour? Are their Disintegrater cannons good?
-I've ignored a lot of units, including all Fast Attack options, is there anything in that section that I should swap into this list?
-Should I look at a named character as HQ? Are they good? Do they cost too many points?
-Have I used my points efficiently in this list?

Hi there and welcome to the Dark Eldar. A few comments on your list.

Liquifier guns are expensive and ineffective and almost never worth taking.

Venoms should always take the extra splinter cannon. Always. Probably the best 10 points you will spend in a DE list!

The Animus Vitae is a gamble and with short range and only one shot it's probably not a gamble worth taking. Better to save the points and use them on the Venoms (see above).

Ravagers are a bit lackluster in anti-tank firepower but they're unfortunately still one of the best AT units we have. You might want to consider Scourges with Haywire Blasters or Heat Lances instead if you have the models.

Your Trueborn are suffering from a bit of an identity crisis as you're mixing AT and AI weapons. You might want to split them into two smaller units. Splinter Cannons on infantry aren't actually very good anyway due to the Salvo rules. You could perhaps take a unit of 10 Kabalite Warriors in a Raider with Splinter Racks and a unit of Trueborn in a Venom with 4 Blasters instead, although you'll need to play around with the list to find the points. You could drop the Incubi completely to pay for them and maybe switch the Haem for a cheaper Archon.

Hope some/all of the above is helpful.

Revised List

+ + HQ + +

Haemonculus w/
-Agoniser
-Scissorhand

105 pts.

+ + Troops + +

5 x Kabalite Warriors w/
-Venom as a Dedicated Transport w/ Extra Splinter Cannon.

5 x Kabalite Warriors w/
-Venom as a Dedicated Transport w/ Extra Splinter Cannon.

10 x Kabalite Warriors w/
-Raider as a Dedicated Transport w/ Nightshield and Splinter Racks

375 pts.

+ + Elites + +

8 x Incubi w/
-Raider as a Dedicated Transport.

5 x Kabalite Trueborn w/
-4 x Blaster
-Venom as a Dedicated Transport w/ Extra Splinter Cannon.

395 pts.

+ + Heavy Support + +

Ravanger w/
-Dark Lance x 3

125 pts.

Total 1000/1000

Okay, so, taking (most) of the advice given I've separated the Anti-Armor Kabalite Trueborn into their own Venom, I've also re purposed the Anti-Infantry into a Kabalite Warrior Raider with splinter racks. Finally I've stripped the Haemonculus of some of his toys.
My own changes were to cut one Ravanger, no actual experience but with one AA Ravanger and the Trueborn with Blasters I feel like I have enough AA in 1000 pts matchs (Fingers crossed.) Using the spare points I doubled down on the Incubi doubling their units size and giving them a bigger boat to better utilise the Haemonculus.

Looks pretty good. I'd just say that there's no point in taking the scissorhand on the Haem if you've got an Agoniser. The Incubi will deal with any 2+ saves you come across so you don't need the rending and the agoniser is better for anything else than the scissors anyway.

Generally our HQs are "tax" units, so try to keep them as cheap as possible. I belive you only get use of one CCW during assault, so there is no point in paying the extra 10 pts for the SH when you already have poisen on the Agonizer.

I personally like Ravagers better than trueborn. This is because it is cheaper, is the only thing running AV 11 in our army, and have double the range of the Trueborn. Experiment with both, and see which you prefer. Dissie Ravagers are our best anti TEQ unit, but our poison weapons are almost as good. Because of this I have been running them as specific AT units recently, and leave all AI to our venoms.

I see that you are liking Incubi, but I would recomend switching them out for Grots. Basically the same damage output, but significantly tougher.

Our FA slot is great. Take a look at reavers, scourges, and even empty Venoms with dual SCs. All great stuff.

Lastly, our named HQs are garbage. All other armies get cool named HQs that give army wide buffs. We do not. Dont take them, instead build a cheap generic HQ and plan on him dying by the end of T3.

Okay so it's been a while. I've rewritten my list (Way too many times holy crap) and have actually bought some units that compose it. Not that that's important.
Anyway. Looking for a perspective on my new list.

Using a CAD
+ + HQ + +

Archon w/
-Agoniser
-The Armour of Misery

The Court of the Archon w/
-2 Medusae
-A Venom (Extra Splinter Cannon) as a dedicated transport.

215 pts.

+ + Troops + +

5 x Kabalite Warriors w/
-1 Blaster
-A Venom (Extra Splinter Cannon) as a dedicated transport.

5 x Kabalite Warriors w/
-1 Blaster
-A Venom (Extra Splinter Cannon) as a dedicated transport.

10 x Kabalite Warriors w/
-A Raider (Splinter Racks) as a dedicated transport.

390 Pts.

+ + Fast Attack + +

3 x Reaver Jetbikes w/
-1 Cluster Caltrops

3 x Reaver Jetbikes w/
-1 Cluster Caltrops

5 x Scourges w/
-4 Blasters

266 pts.

+ + Heavy Support + +

Ravager w/
3 x Dark Lance.

125 pts.

996/1000

Issues I have vaguely considered:
-Under-utilisation of Reaver Jetbikes. (Bigger units? More weapons?)
-Archon built as a close combat unit in a ranged army? Am I just throwing Slay the Warlord at my opponent?
-Are Scourges too squishy to be my dedicated anti tank unit?
-Medusae are wonderful at killing marines, is a Venom enough to get them in range?

To answer your questions point by point:

-I believe your Reaver squads are perfect. Dont waste points on shooting, since you will be using your 3+ jink most of the time. These guys are perfect for 3 man MSU squads. We just dont have any "force multipliers" in the DE army to make it useful to clump them into a big unit (although CWE farseers/ Corsair Princes are nice if you use allies).

-This is how I have run my archon most games. When he is in a unit of Grots this works well, since you have to carve through a bunch of T5 guys first. Who will he be riding with? If he is by himself, I dont think he will last long...

-Scourges are our best AT unit. If you like the basters go for it, but Haywire are better at AT (but useless if your opponent doesnt bring armour). Up to you how to arm them.

-Medusae prefer the Venom. Both transports are able to DS, but the Venom has the 5++ built in, so you dont "need" to jink (since you cant snap-fire the Medusae template after jinking).
