PostSubject: Sythrac's Anguish Bringer's   Fri Jul 22 2016, 20:31

New rumour about 8th edition campaigns, one of which involve Dark Eldar, complete with new models:

http://natfka.blogspot.com.au/2016/07/40k-8th-edition-campaigns-exciting-look.html?m=1

via anonymous sources on Faeit 212

8th edition and New Campaign called War in the Webway
8th Edition is kicking off next year but rather than do the usual starter set and massive rulebook with 2 armies facing off they will be releasing 7 starter set army boxes which will be the seven main armies taking part in a new campaign called "War in the Webway" which will be the first of five campaigns which will move the 40k storyline forward to the "1 minute to mindnight mark". All kits in the box are plastic I am told and some will include new plastic updates which will later be released as separate kits. The Main Rule book will just be rules and each Campaign will have a "fluff" and Special rules books which will develop that campaign's storyline.

The six boxes are:
1. Kharn's Slaughterband - (New) Kharn the Betrayer, (new)Khorne Bezerkers, Bloodletters, Bloodcrushers and a Hellbrute)
2. Eldrad's Cursing Spear -  ( New) Eldrad, (New) 2 Guardian squads (can be either defenders or storm guardians, (new) 5 warlocks, 2 war walkers, Fire Prism
3. Magnus' Weavers of Change-  (New) Magnus Daemon Prince, (New) Prosperine Terminators, (New) Rubric Marines (ranged), Rubric Marines (Close Combat), Chaos Predator Tank
4. Iyanna's Phoenix Host - (New) Iyanna Arienal the Oracle of Ynnead, (New) Arcane Battleseer Firesight (Can also be built as standard Arcane Battleseer)  (Can also be built as  10 Wraithguard/Blades,2 Wraithlords, 5 Dire Avengers
5. Ahriman's Unholy Covenant - (New) Ahriman,(New) N'kari (can also be built as standard Keeper of Secrets) (New) 2 Chaos Sorcerors, Rubric Marines, Pink Horrors of Tzeentch, Daemonettes of Slaanesh, Chariot of Tzeentch
6. Sythrac's Anguish Bringer's - (New) Valossian Sythrac the Blade of Vect, (New) 5 Kabalite Trueborn, Kabalite Warriors, (New) Incubi, 2 Venoms, 1 Raider, 1 Razorwing Jetfighter
7. The Laughing Host - (New) Prince Yriel Champion of Cegorach, (New) Sylandri Veilwalker, 3 Harlequin Troupes, 2 Starweavers, (New) 1 Sentinel of the Black Library.

New Kits for the Campaign
I am told that there will be other new kits coming out alongside the campaign, all kits mentioned above will also be available separately. I asked about some of the new units mentioned above and this is what I have so far:

- Prosperine Terminators = Basically Rubric Terminators but all are heavy weapon specialists with in built heavy bolters, multi melta's but also more magical weaponry too. Terminator Models which are more like the Imperial than Chaos ones but have the rubric details you would expect on them.

- Iyanna, the special character we all know and love (or hate) but she becomes very dark and sinister, shes floating on wild growing wriathbone and spirits, has a spear and staff, helmet is a cross between a Farseer and Spiritseer

- Magnus, Daemon Prince, covering in Tzeentch markings, bright red armour and a golden sythe. Described as flying with feathered wings whilst mid casting a spell. Apparently he is in the webway and basically racing Ahriman to the Black Library, they are NOT allies in any way

- Eldrad, still doing his usual thing, new plastic model is very similar to old metal one.

-N'kari, the Keeper of Secrets leading the Slaanesh Daemons in the webway, in an alliance with Ahriman, but both of them are extremely untrusting of the other and secretly have different aims. Also can be built as a normal Keeper of Secrets, multiple weapon and head options, posed as if leaping and about to strike out.

- Arcane Battleseer, similar to a Wraithknight with psychic weapons and powers. Imagine if you smashed up a wraithknight into chunks of Wraithbone then bound them back together with psychic energy energy, can be posed casting a spell, fighting or just standard. Looks extremely cool I'm told.

-Arcane Battleseer Firesight, The first Arcane Battleseer. Used to be the High Farseer of Iyanden but then died and became a Wraithseer and a close advisor to Iyanna Arienal. Was blown apart along with 2 Wraithknights after detonating an Ork Stompa. Iyanna's desperate ritual to save Firesight merged the souls of the Wraithknight Pilots and Firesight together and created a new Wraithbone body called an "Arcane Battleseer". A successful design so has begun being replicated on other craftworlds in addition to creating Wraithseers. Posed like a normal Arcane Battleseer but has a more ornate head and a special energy spear/staff.

- Valossian Sythrac, Basically is Vect's top Archon who does all of his dirty work.
Posed leaping forward with a Husblade behind him and an open soul trap in an outstretched hand which has tendrils of energy leaping forward from it. Has a Golden Helmet with multiple Horns which apparently look a bit like Malekith from WHFB.

-Prince Yriel, similar to current model but cloak is now a diamond one, and stands on top of eldar architecture with spear swiping and leaving 'Green fire behind it". He now wears a mask covering the left half of his face which included his special Eye thing which has received a bit of an upgrade and now shoots a special beam. His Banners on his back are gone and replacing with long hair blowing in the wind.

-Kharn the Betrayer, a lot like the current model but more dynamic and posed as though lashing out at an enemy.

-Sylandri Veilwalker, Special Shadowseer, floating on mist which also covers half her character. Has a curved semi circle blade in one hand and a staff in the other.

- Sentinel of the Black Library. Wraithlord sized figure with a long spear held by both hands. Cloaked in a long black and white chequered robe and has a mirror mask for its face which is mostly hidden by a hood.

Future Campaigns
There are apparently 4 more campaign book series' (each with their own army starte sets and new releases).
Campaign 2 Is Eye of Terror area Chaos invasion (Blood Angels, Space Wolves, Dark Angels, Astra Militarum, Eldar, Necrons VS everything Chaos)
Campaign 3 Is Orks Vs Nids Vs Imperium Vs Necrons in Octarius Sector and surrounding space
Campaign 4 Is Tau vs Imperium but later Chaos and a faction of Dark Eldar, Necrons also turn up as well apparently
Campaign 5 is Eye of Terror area and beyond part 2 (the stories from all 4 previous books brought together)  pretty much every race is sensing the chaos in the galaxy and moves towards this area with their own missions and aims

In Campaign 3 pretty much everyone on the development team is game on for having a Ghazghkull vs Swarmlord whilst Campaign 4 they want a showdown between Farsight or Shadowsun and Imotekh. From what I gather, nothing beyond the first two books is set in stone yet and the rest is all a rough outline.

The aim is that these 5 Campaigns should take about 2 years to run their course and progress the setting to a new state where various side stories can be developed and therefore create new stories but keep the clock at "1 minute to midnight" for the overall setting.

This is pretty interesting. I have heard rumours about some of these models getting remake (Kharn, primarily) and it would fit in with the new Eldrad model that has been leaked.

It is nice to see the DE getting some love, and the new model sounds pretty cool if the rumour is true.

One thing caught my eye to add some salt, however. Prince Yriel with a Harlequin force? Seems curious to me.

Many people might disagree, but I am glad of the rumour for not progressing the timeline.

New models is always nice and with a new edition you never quite know how DE will play.

Campaign 4 also mentions a DE faction - Would love to see a Grot kit finally, but perhaps Wyches will get some love (sharp, pointy, love).

This could only improve our offerings if true. I will have a very sore wallet and a very content-crammed backlog of material for Splintermind if 20% of this pans out cheers

This alone should make us hope it's real. I'm sure I'm not the only one who wants to hear more of ESE's treacly voice. Wink

And Thor's thoughts too, I guess. Razz

I expected Sythrac in the new codex with his suped up soul trap providing almost psyker lIke powers to slow time. It sounded really awesome.

As a full eldar player I would buy every single one of those models.

Also in Valedor Prince Yriel left the craft world with the above mentioned shadow seer, so it's actually more plausible than not.

Thanks for the info. I haven't read through Valedor. All I know about him is what I have read in the codices. Smile Anyway, if true I think this is pretty exciting.

Can someone explain who to me who Sythrac is? I don't recall reading about him in the current codex, nor is he mentioned in Andy Chambers' "Path" Trilogy.

It would be awesome to finally get some Trueborn models that distinguish the unit from the normal Kabalite Warriors. Smile

Campaign 1 for 8th ed with no Imperium of Man units? Love it but I don't have enough salt in my house Smile

Not sure how I feel about psychic Wraithknights.

Am i the only one who isn't pro DE special characters? It just doesn't feel fluffy to me. I mean we all make our own kabals with our own paint schemes. DE don't like to help each other. Why would someone who probably has more important things to do with their own kabal help out any of ours? Drazhar, ok, he could be checking up on the Incubi your running. But why would Sythrac, or Vect for that matter, care enough to join forces with a kabal other than their own. I just don't get it. Not that i'm against the model being added to the range, its just something i don't understand.

Here's why I like special characters:

40k is a huge, epic world about larger than life, epic heroes/villains doing extraordinary things. There's also lots of piddly crap being done by nobodies in the background, of course.

The important stories have already been told/are being told. So who gives a crap about my nobody archon? If he's not as important as Vect, Malys, the Baron or the Duke, then he's nothing, and the battles I'm playing in are irrelevant in the grand scheme of things. If he IS as important as them, then he's a lame-ass Mary Sue fanfic character.

I'm fine with playing generic characters to have them represent named characters (my Chaos army is going to be Talos's Night Lords). But I think playing one of the big guys is kind of the point of 40k. Or at least playing one of their direct subordinates--my Corsair Princess is the daughter of Duke Sliscus (or claims to be), and my haemonculi are supposed to be Urien Rakarth's catspaws.

That's just how I see it.

I'm with Jimsolo. I like special characters for a number of reasons.

Each has their own unique backstory/fluff which helps provide more of an insight to life in Commorragh. I adored the story of Sliscus and his fluctuating personality because it helped make one of the coolest badguys in Commorragh feel real. In turn he helped provide character to the DE, showing what can be achieved.

Another reason is for what they provide. Special Rules. They added variety and more options in some cases. They also provided more options for HQ's; for example I would often run my Kabal's Archon using the rules for Sliscus because I wanted the extra drug rolls and the super-toxic gunboat. So, if you don't like Sythrac and his fluff but like his rules, run him under a different name for your Kabal but use the same stats and rules.

Taking the special characters out of our last codex dented it quite considerably. It took out a lot of the variety, like being able to have Hellions for troops (which people didn't do much, but hey, the option to was nice). I welcome the prospect of more DE special characters.

Away from why I like special characters, the description of the model sounds pretty dynamic. I'm hoping to be wowed when I see it like when I first laid eyes upon the Dark Elf Assassin model.

Btw. this new psychik Wraithknight, isn't this basically just a FW Wraithseer, just made from GW?

Dark Eldar used to have many great characters in the 5th edition codex and if anything the DE novels showed that there is potential for even more. I'd suggest you reading into that.

Oh, and Vect is a big deal in Commorragh. A very big deal, in fact.

It sounds like the Wraithseer or at least a twist on it, the FW model has been around for a while so maybe, if the rumors prove to be true, they are moving it to plastic rather than replace the forgeworld mold and shift it to the main game.

Quote :
Oh, and Vect is a big deal in Commorragh. A very big deal, in fact.

I don't thing they were saying that Vect isn't a big deal, actually that goes back to the core of what they were saying, unless you are not fielding his Kabal, why would Vect decide to put himself in the middle of another Archon's forces (alone) and expose himself to the risk of being killed or contribute to expanding the power of a rival Archon when he is that important? Allying in his own forces sure, he is doing it for the gain but the risk to himself is pretty high to be surrounded by those who are not his own men and bodyguards.

I actually would like to see the return of people like Vect, Lady Malys, the Duke, and the Baron, they are great for people who want to build and field armies that are based around them, but there are also others out there that want to be the no-body on the rise in the city and to place someone like Vect at the mercy of some random Kabal just doesn't really fit the fluff, but the choice should be there for those who want their Kabal/Coven/Wych Cult to be attached as part of those important people's power base.

@Jimsolo While I understand where you are coming from you are also forgetting that there are many times in history where a no-body has made a name for himself and what should have been an unimportant battle became something more important in the scheme of things. Look at the battle of Rorke's Drift for one example. Those are my views anyway and don't misunderstand I'm not telling you that you have to think like I do, only saying my thoughts on the matter and why I don't feel every battle has to be fought by the big guys.

As for getting excited over this "announcement" I'll hold off until we have some real confirmation the only things that we have from a creditable source is that Kharn is supposed to be getting a new miniature, the Sprew for Eldrad has been leaked, and the possibility at some plastic Daemon Primarchs. Much of this seems a bit far reaching and extreme for me to believe until some of the people who tend to have more knowledge on the matter weigh in and natfka is not one of those sources for me.

People need to get their Wraiths in order, the Wraithseer is based off the Wraithlord model, not the Wraithknight. This Battleseer would be something completely new.

Some exciting news this, the Iyanden, Harlequin and DE boxes would be autobuys for me, but this rumour is from Natfka so I'm liberally sprinkling with all the salt in the dead sea.

Since I have never known the Deldar of ye olden days, can someone briefly explain what the special characters did (special rules, stats)? The Baron sounds very interesting and I would like to hear what Vect's special rules were. After all, he is THE ruler of Commarragh.

Do I understand this correctly, the rumoured boxes are like bigger versions of the Start Collecting Boxes? Because the "normal" beginner boxes of new editions featured minis of two races, like e.g. Tyranids vs. Smurfs etc.

I will go through the characters not in the current codex for you, Causalis.

Baron Sathonyx had a Skyboard that gave him +2 strength on an assault. If included you could roll twice for deciding who chose deployment. He confered stealth to his unit and made Hellions troops.

Kheradruakh caused instant death on a roll of 6. When arriving from reserves he could be placed within 1 inch of an enemy unit. He had prefered enemy against an enemy Independent Character you chose at the start of the game. He also started with a pain token.

Duke Sliscus had twin 2+ Venom Blades that ignored armour rolls on To Wound rolls of 5+. He had to start with a unit of Kabalites or Trueborn, but their Splinter weapons became poisoned 3+. Any combat drugs were rolled twice and both were kept. All Raiders, Ravagers and Venoms also had Deep Strike with Sliscus in the army.

Lady Malys and a unit she was attatched to were immune to psychic powers. She had a power blade that had a chance of rebelling and missing the foe. She allowed D3 units in her army to be redployed after deployment was finished on both sides.

Asdrubael Vect had a power weapon that always wounded on a 3+. He allowed you to sieze initiative on a 4+. He had a rule that granted prefered enemy against all units and rerolls To Wound Eldar and Dark Eldar (this was before Harlequins were a faction). He also had an AV13 Raider with three Dark Lances.

And this is why I like special characters. They provide nice variety. I hope, if the rumours are true, that the new character can bring some interesting rules.
