HQ
Archon with Huskblade, Shadowfield, and Webway Portal

Elites
3 Incubi

Troops
10 Kalbites (1 Splinter Cannon) in a Raider
10 Kalbites (1 Splinter Cannon) in a Raider
5 Kalbiites in a Venom with 2 Splinter Cannons

Fast Attack
Razorwing Jetfighter with 2 Dark Lances and 1 Splinter Cannon
5 Scourges with 4 Haywire Blasters

Heavy Support
Ravager with 3 Dark Lances

Coven Formation
(Scalpel Squadron)
5 Wracks in a Venom
5 Wracks in a Venom

Tactic Idea
I was thinking about starting my entire in deep strike since the Scalpel Squad comes into play automatically turn one.  I would also have the Archon with the Incubi so they could deep strike in.

Welcome to The Dark City!

A few problems I see here...

First, deep striking a close combat specialist archon and Incubi only guarantees 2 things: 1, that they won't be able to charge till turn 3 at the earliest, and 2, that they will have to sit, vulnerable against shooting for at least 1 turn without a transport. Suffice to say I do not recommend this.

Second, deep striking your entire force is risky. If you go second and your opponent can kill 2 venoms and 2 units of wracks, you automatically lose.

And finally, 10 warriors in raiders is no longer a good proposition. If it ever was, the debate has been ended by the latest FAQ that GW put out. It's only a draft, but first impression is that warriors in raiders is a terrible idea now. I'd make both those squads 5 guys in dual cannon venoms and use the extra points elsewhere.

What would you suggest I do?

I am trying to make a 1000 or 1250 point army and the models that I have are as follows, also if you can suggest some tactics it would be greatly appreciated:

1 Archon
5 Incubi
10 Wracks
31 Kalbites (2 Dark Lances / 4 Splinter Cannons)
3 Venoms
5 Scourges
2 Raiders
1 Ravager
1 Razorwing Jetfighter

That list of models is a tad hard to work with. I'd definitely recommend getting at least 1 more ravager. That said, here are some ideas:

Combined Arms Detachment
Archon WWP, Agonizer, Shadow Field, Armour of Misery 175
3x 5 Warriors in Dual Cannon Venoms 315
1x 5 Warriors in Dark Lance Raider 100
1x 5 Scourges w/ 4 Heat Lances, Solarite w/ Agonizer 145
1 Ravager w/3 Dark Lances 125
1 Razorwing Jetfighter w/Dark Lances 140
TOTAL: 1000 points

You put the Archon with the scourges in reserve to deep strike without scatter for a rear hit with the heat lances. After that, they're sort of a low-rent assault unit. You position them when you deep strike so that the Archon's shadow field tanks most of the incoming fire you should expect to see.

Keep your venoms and raider at their max range most of the time, only having them break rank to flat out and grab an objective for points. ALWAYS use these guys to score points. That's their primary job for you. Sacrifice their shooting for a turn if it gets you a point. It may not be "glorious", but such are the decisions that win games. Glory seeking causes people to lose because they don't want to retreat their unit from a fight they clearly should not be in. Don't be a glory hound. Wink

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
At 1250:
You could add 4 Incubi with a klaivex in a Dark Lance Raider, and 5 wracks to the list above. If you do so, your plan is to flat out said raider across the table ASAP, and jink any time something shoots at it. Turn 2, you want to be assaulting with your incubi. Use the 5 wracks as objective campers in your deployment zone. Since they start out with T4 and FnP, they're pretty tough, especially if they get a good cover save. So post them up in some ruins, and go to ground any time they're not under imminent threat of being assaulted.
Hope that helps! Good luck, and let us know what you decide to use, and how you do!
I assume you mean go first here? If you were going second then unless nothing arrives on turn 2 you wouldn't be tabled.
I am going to try out this 1000 point list today. Thanks for the suggestion!
Yeah, that's what I meant. Thanks for the correction!
I played 2 matches with the suggested list and had mixed results.
Match 1 v Imperial Guard.
I faced a armor heavy 1000 point list where everything was in transports and he fielded only tanks. I struggled with not having enough lances on the table and was blown up completely in 4 turns.
Match 2 v Space Wolves
I faced an assault infantry heavy list and played very well against it. I was able to maneuver well all match and keep his troops at bay. The only units that I struggled against were his wulfen when they got into assault range.
I am hoping to play the list again a couple times again today.
Yeah, those results sound like what I'd expect with this list. Like I said, I'd definitely recommend getting another ravager or 2 ASAP.
Out of curiousity, how did the deep striking scourges with heat lances perform? Did you manage to blow up something big on their arrival? Did you end up using them in assault? Against what? How'd they do?
Both matches they played very well. I Managed to take down 1 tank and almost a 2nd in the first match. Unfortunately I didn't get them in to combat game 1 because I was facing a pure armor list. The second match they fared incredibly well agaisnt tactical Marines in both the shooting phase and the assault phase.
I played my 1250 list today minus the mass deep strike against a space marine list that played as salamanders. I ended up wiping his whole force off the board and only lost my Ravager and 1 Raider. As well as the Kalbites inside. The mission was also the relic one.
Good to hear. Glad they're working out for you, and congrats on your victory. 2 out of 3 isn't bad!
When you say "minus the mass deep strike", you still deep strike the archon and scourges, right?
That's generally how I'd run the list, I think. The only 2 things in reserve are the scourges/archon and the jetfighter.
Yeah, just the Archon with Incbi / Scourges/ Jetfighter deep striked. I played the archon and incbi group to claim the relic and used everyone else as supporting fire.
For today's match (v Salamanders SMs) he was down to 2 models on the table at the start of his second turn before deep striking in a terminator squad and 3 scout squads.
Uh....don't put the archon with the Incubi. At least I wouldn't.
I'd Put him with the scourges. The incubi don't need to deep strike. That slows them down from being able to assault. Just move them in their transport flat out 30" on turn 1, then charge on turn 2.
The WWP of the archon will stop the scourges from scattering, allowing you pinpoint accuracy with their heat lances to ensure you blow up at least 1 tank with them every match, and it makes it so that you have 2 units that are scary in CC. Incubi with a Klaivex are scary and effective on their own. Scourges with a single agoniser are so-so, but if you add an archon with an agonizer, they can chew through units with ease.
