Hoverbase (Tank& Jetbike)

WH40 Template (3", 5", Flamer)
Apo Templates (7", 10", Barrage, Hellstorm)

The title might be a little confusing if you watch the picture, but this thread is more or less about me getting some magnetized bases together so I finally can transport my vehicles to games where they can float above the ground, and not sit down there like stranded whales.

Sadly this project got some heavy blows and my old school Fire Prism tank just falls of the base every time. Maybe I need like some huge ass electric magnet for his huge ass gun.

Good ol' times where they did build everything from metal.

So with the hover bases being only a wishful dream of mine so far I started to do other things first. Wasting a day of work, thinking I could get rid of my 7" cardboard template ... And then replace my other templates too ... And get me some markers for jinking vehicles!

They look pretty good. Are you going to use the clear pastic rods to slot into the hovering vehicles?

And here the jetbike versions of the base so far. Don't mind the way too big bases and the crap quality. It was just to test some different prints and how to best build it up.

I use the green stuff just for testing (and because it kind of looks like the GW stuff ... with a lot of fantasy ... I got side tracked and did the templates and the jink marker from the first post).
For the final bases I will use transparent plastic. Sadly it will not be as transparent as the GW stuff as it is made out of layers.

I was thinking about using parts from GW hover bases but then did go another way and just print them to have some robust friends at my disposal.

There we go with the last test version.

Bonesinger Fun W_JNBIg_P

The thicker bolt needs some drilling into the model, but it is like way more robust.
Also the extra surface added to the lower side of the tank makes sure that it will not break that easy.

Magnet and washer holding the whole thing together pretty neat.

And it is holding a old school fireprism without wobbling around.
And if it holds the fireprism it should hold almost everything. It should even hold my Vect with his old bum metal throne.

The washer place will get some fine tuning and hopefully the next pictures will be the finished version in transparent plastic.

Venom and Jetbike size will follow like right on the spot (or so I hope).

If the things are finished I will share the CAD model here for everyone who is interested in it.

It took some time but the first badge of bases is done!

I was able to equip my seven Eldar Grav Tanks as well as my ten old school Eldar Jetbikes so far, tested them in two games (thats why I did not post it earlier) and was satisfied with the result!
It works pretty well ... Only the old school Fire Prism tank is a little princess that needs to be taken extra care of.

And one picture to proof it!

Next stop will be my Ravagers/ Raiders, Venoms and Vipers which can use the same parts.
For my newer Eldar Jetbikes and some third party Jetbikes from russia I might get back to CAD and modify something.

I use two 4mm x 1mm magnets for each of my bases.

The first post will be updated with the link for the bases (with and without the Eldar runes). Feel free to use them.
If someone needs/ or want the modifiable version, just send me a message. I will give them out but not upload them as I more or less work on them now and then.

So, the next update comes a little faster!

I did the 3", 5" and flame thrower template!

7", 10", hellstorm and a "limited edition" like 7" will follow the next days.

For the theme I was going with some farseer rune as I want to use them for all my Eldar armies and for that reason wanted to keep them kind of universal (more or less).

Also I used the Eldar numbers for all my templates as I guessed that they use the same numbers in Commorragh.

Thank you! Its really fun to make them with the 3D printer also.

The apocalypse templates will need a day or two longer before I finish them.
Especially the 10" and the Hellstorm I want to be separable for transport. The not- separable versions are already done.

In the mean time I made some more or less useful stuff for my army.

New dice tower! Being as simple as my original one from years ago (but with less nails that kind of point directly into the dice box and making every roll a dangerous adventure).

Bonesinger Fun IMG_8098 Bonesinger Fun IMG_8091 Bonesinger Fun IMG_8094

Then some measure tool like you see them pretty often. Having 6" for movement, 2" for troop organisation and a rune for my Autarch. This might be the only thing where I will go for an extra Dark Eldar, Corsair and Harlequin rune. Just because.

Also used the danger runes for markers. A J for Jink and a Y for like everything else. Worked pretty fine so far and I do not think I will make any extra special markers, beside maybe some HP markers.

And last but not least the barrage template close to being finished!
I was going for the luxury version here!

You are doing nothing but reinforcing the fact that I need to stop thinking about it and to instead actually start putting money aside for a 3D printer.

Yeah, I can only recommend it. I got my first one for like USD 230 (but it is rather small with 10" x 10" and you need to assemble and configure it on your own) and it already payed back tenfold.

Most of the things I have done so far would be hard or simply impossible for me to do by any other means.
Also here I just post what I do for Warhammer, but I use the 3D printer for a lot of different things.

My biggest concern was that I did not know anything about using CAD software, but with some really simple tutorials and some testing it took like a week to get the first simple things going.
And useful things like Jetbike bases are nothing but different cylinders glued together. So no big deal!

Luckily I have experience with using AutoCAD. Size was one of the first considerations I had when I first looked into purchasing one, one of the reason I will probably be saving up so that I can make larger parts. Warhammer isn't the only consideration for things I would use it for, I have some other hobbies and there have been times when I've had trouble finding exactly what I wanted to assist with something that I could make with a 3D printer.

For 40k I've been collecting Corsairs but I'm not a fan of the current Nightwing so I've been toying around with the idea of scratch building one of my own design. A 3D printer would make that more of a reality as it would make it less work to shape and reform parts if I actually set out to do that.
