PostSubject: DE and allied eldar list, 2000 points. Thoughts?   Sun Mar 20 2016, 18:38

So I'm planning on bringing some Eldar along with my DE for some extra punch. For 2000 points I plan to use the following:

Eldar:
Farseer
Wraithguard with D scythes
Wave Serpent
Fire Prism
x10 rangers

DE:
Archon w/webway portal
3x 10 warriors w/ splinter cannons in Raiders (w/dark lance and possibly splinter racks)
Beast Pack (8 kymarae, 3 razorwing, 1 master)
Razorwing w/ dark lances and monoscythe missiles
2x Ravagers w/ dark lances
2x minimum sized blasterborn in Venoms w/ extra splinter cannon

The basic idea is as follows
I have the rangers infiltrate and camp an objective or two in cover (backfield or possibly mid), going to ground when necessary for the 2+ save
Fire prism blasts any MEQs who pop into the open, and if it has nothing else to shoot, get twin linking from the farseer to try to pop a tank
Raider warriors and blaster venoms scoot around harassing and shooting up units
Beast pack pushes up the center, sticking to cover when available, hopefully drawing some fire off of my other units and mopping up weakened enemy units
Razorwing pops all four missiles the turn it comes in to decimate a squad and then trys to strip hull points here and there with dark lances and provide anti flyer support
Ravagers on anti tank duty
Archon rolls with wraithguard in wave serpent, and Deepstrikes in with the webway portal near a choice enemy unit, the wraithguard wipe the unit out with d sycthes and then move on from there
Does this sound at all viable for casual games? Am I missing out on much by not putting any points towards my DE jetbikes or incubi?
Thanks

Unfortunately I have no experience playing my with DE but would of thought swapping out the wave serpent for a Raider would be better. Saves on points, with night Shields you get a 3+ jink and it's open-topped allowing for maximum death when it comes in

I'm open to considering a raider instead of the wave serpent, just to save on points. My rationale behind the serpent is that when it comes in, it creates more of a presence in the area (since serpents are fairly durable) and can provide decent fire support to boot. Unless I'm mistaken, my wraithguard can exit the serpent the turn they deepstrike and start dropping templates right? I figure then the opponent would have to dedicate some shots to the serpent and not just the wraithguard, or theyd get shot up with serpent shield shots and shuruiken fire. If they can't exit and shoot when they drop in the serpent, I'd definitely prefer raider for the open top shooting when they come in.

Although I guess in the raider they could fly around templating people and probably wouldn't get too banged up in a wreck because of high toughness and decent save.

My other thought is that if i trim some points (raider instead of serpent, cut the webway portal and deep strike the raider with scatter, cut a couple rangers) I could afford some scourges with haywire for extra anti tank.

I do like haywire Scourge. Generally take a tank out each turn. Im pretty sure you cant disembark the turn a transport arrives but o may be mistaken.
The problem with normal deep striking raiders is that they have a large footprint and so easier to mishap. Also being able to place 5 d templates where you like is horribly damaging

Although I just realized WWP in a raider with wraithguard isn't an option since they can't all fit

I'd keep the WWP even if you're switching to the raider. Not scattering is huge on a unit full of D-scythes. You WANT to be able to take out that wraithknight right when you show up, rather than having a potential mishap or scatter out of range ruining your plan.

Yes, this is a dice game, and so it involves an element of luck. But your job, as a strategist, is to minimize the impact of those dice rolls as much as possible, so that your victory is all but a forgone conclusion. Wink

EDIT: Oh, you're right. I just wouldn't put them in a vehicle then. Have them deep strike with a WWP without one.

very true. no scatter would be quite nice, allow for some very precise D templates. And since archon+wwp+wraithguard isn't exaclty cheap in points, them failing their mission could turn the game against me.
That leaves me with a couple options:
cant do archon with wwp and guard in raider (transport capacity too small)
could stick with original idea and deep strike them in the serpent, disembark and fire (which I
believe is allowed) drawback is points cost
or deep strike wwp and no transport.
No transport is most points efficient, but then when they come in, due to the unit formation upon deepstriking, I wouldnt be able to shoot off all the D scythes, just the front 3.
Saving points on not taking transport (along with other minor cuts) would let me take my scourges with haywire, boosting my anti tank, so it might be a fair trade.
Also my plan here is if possible, not deepstriking the wraithguard in such a way that would be a suicide mission (would give them a vp on my archon, and cost a lot of points for just one attack). I'm thinking more along the lines of deepstriking in near support, or on a poorly guarded objective.

Other than the wraith guard stuff, does the rest of the list seem reasonably balanced?

I think if I cut lances on the raiders (probably be jinking anyway), skip the serpent and take a couple less rangers I should be able to have the scourges tag along.

Technically, you can fire all the templates, I'm pretty sure. Under firing template weapons, there is no rule saying you can't shoot a different unit than your primary target. The rule is just that you have to attempt to get as many members of your primary target in as possible without putting the template over a friendly model. Since that number is zero for 1-2 models when you deep strike, you're still following the rules if you place the template over a completely different unit. Wink

P.S. I'm quoting from memory here, so I -could- be wrong, but I don't think I am.

Interesting, I wouldn't have thought of that. I'll have to look into that.

WWP Wraithguard are always going to do some work for you. It's a pity they don't get Battle Focus, that could really take advantage of that from deep strike.

Just remember to edit posts rather then double or triple post :3
