PostSubject: 1000 point league list   Thu Mar 17 2016, 01:26

by JayDee327 Today at 8:58 pm
Local club is starting its first escalation league. I plan on bringing..

Succubus- agoniser, armor of misery,
W/ 4 incubi in a venom. With two splinter cannons.

10 warriors in raider( racks, night shield, lances) one warrior with a dark lance.
9'warriors in raider( racks, night shields, lances)

Razor wing, 2 disinter grantor cannons, mono missiles, splinter rifles.

Scourges 2 with shard carbines, 3 with blasters.

Talos pain engine. Splinter cannon, liquifier...

Goal is to have incubi and succubus carve through and have warriors available to just unload shots. I should have a lot of shots on the enemy with all the salvo weapons and the shard carbines... Thoughts???

We start Friday 6pm est coast. A touch of every army, crons, space marines, tau, orks chaos I don't think there are any nids??? But yeah.

I'd swap out the 3 blasters on the scourges for 4 haywire blasters. The razorwings with dissies better fill your ranged anti-elite infantry, and the cheaper haywires are more reliable at taking out levels of AV over 10.

I'd drop both lances on the raiders(you're going to be jinking all the time anyhow to protect the warriors inside with that 3+ jink save)

I'd swap the liquifier gun on the talos for an ichor injector. The S3 of the liquifier gun makes it lackluster, while the ichor injector adds fleshbane(wounding wraithknights on 2+), and instant death on 6's to the Talos' existing AP2 attacks for 5 points less.

All that leaves you 20 points extra. I'd spend 8 on getting the 10th warrior in your second squad, and 10 upgrading one of your incubi to a klaivex. The klaivex gives you an alternate choice to issue/accept challenges when your target has a 2+ armour save, where the succubus' agoniser wouldn't be effective. Also, for 10 points, you get an average of 3 extra attacks per round from your klaivex(+1A on profile, +1d3 Rampage) against units of 6+.

Would an archon be better as the hq choice??

Succubus is better for what you want.

I agree with getting a Klaivex. I've had just the Succubus and Klaivex make it to assault against lots of targets and murder them all.

Personally I wouldn't take a Dark Lance on a warrior squad. You'll just end up snap firing it, because you'll want to move the raider. Splinter Cannons can work and are cheaper, but a lot of people just go for Splinter Rifles on the whole squad.

Can you give the Razorwing a Splinter Cannon?

I agree with haywire on the Scourges. You need the anti tank.

Oh yeah, I meant to mention the dark lance on the warrior squad as well. Good catch. That definitely should go. That leaves you 27 points.

I'd spend 5 giving your succy haywire grenades, and 20 giving both raiders a shock prow. The shock prow allows them to both tank shock and ram as if they were an AV14 vehicle, so it gives you an additional option if your anti-tank gets killed, or your crew is shaken/snap firing.

No. It doesn't work on anything with an AV. Only things with a Toughness value.

Not a problem at all. Good luck with your league, and let us know how it goes, or if you have any other questions!

Batrap....... Sad

Big Guns; 4 objectives.

Turn 1.

Nothing fancy made one raider jink, I took out all his tomb blades except one Sad

Turn 2 his reserves came in mine didnt. His sniper looking guys killed my talos in the assult phase, his warriors gaussed their hearts out killed venom with hq in it. First blood for him. Heavy point for killing my talos. 2 nil him.

Turn 3. My reserves come in razor wing and scourge ( should have started them on the field... make his army jink lol still has his ghost ark, and his flyer??..we are locked in combat with hq in a challenge. 1 point down a piece.

Turn 4 Sad
This is where it all goes down hill. His ghost ark took down my raider. Gauss ftw.. his flyer took out my anti tank scourges... killed my hq in CC. Killed five of the Warriors in said raider. Made second raider jink.. nothing left for me to do really for my turn 4. Yep.
Turn 5.
I hide so I don't get tabled.. he got me. All but 5 warriors lol.

I just couldn't get passed his reanimation protocol. I'd knock them down they'd get back up. I wasn't ready lol.

Thanks for the update! Hope you had fun anyhow!

You're absolutely right about the scourges. Scourges with haywires should start on the table in all but the most unusual of circumstances, since hitting on rear armour doesn't really benefit them. All it means is that you lose their shots for a minimum of 1 turn.

I'm not sure what he was running exactly, but necrons have a lot of interdependency, and units that buff other units. If he was running canoptek harvest or something, he may have been using a spider to give reanimation protocols to a unit that actually didn't have it on it's own. If that's the case, focusing and killing the spider actually makes his army much less resilient.

Either way, know thy enemy, and know thyself. Wink

Yeah, what I mentioned is a potential part of a decurion detachment. The decurion is a mashup of multiple formations that each have special rules. Like I said, the road to victory involves 2 things:

First, learn your army in and out.
Second, know the major tricks all the other armies use.

If you don't understand what your opponent is doing to cause their army to be so tough, you might simply think it's OP. But if you know that all you gotta do is kill that spider, and suddenly half his army doesn't have reanimation protocols any more, that makes your job tons easier.

It's the same with lots of different armies. Tyranids, for instance, have a pretty big inbuilt weakness in the form of synapse. On one hand, it makes all their stuff fearless while in synapse range, but if you focus fire and kill their synapse creatures, the rest of their army is succeptable to leadership manipulation, pinning, fear, and instinctual behavior(which is a generally negative tyranid special rule).

People will often "forget" about their own negative special rules. It pays big dividends to know these.

Good call. Thanks for the info, we are meeting in 2 weeks to play again. I am trying a few new things. I'll be sure to post the ideas here to see if they're viable. I honestly don't think I absolutely need to change everything about my list. Just a few things will do.

It's entirely plausible that you don't need to change your list at all. 1 good or bad decision in a game can drastically alter the success or failure of your list.

Week two changes:

Hq: archon w/ shadow field and
Elites: 3 incubi klavex. All in venom with two splinter cannons.

Trueborns w/blasters in venom w/two splinter canons.

Two units of warriors:
5 in venom w/ splinter canons and rifles
10 in a raider with racks and night shields

X5 Scourges with heat lances ( he was a gentslman and allowed me to change from haywire)
Talons pain engine with heat lances and ichor injector.

Played Tau; mission Crusader.

Bad rolls bad position. Saving grace was the incubi unit w/ archon and talos locked his riptide in combat in turn 2. Anything in my list that seems off?? He won 5-4 first blood, slay the warlord and held his objective. I had slay and my objective.

Personally, I think blasterborn are too expensive for what they do. That's 180 points for them, their weapon, and their transport.

For that price, you could get a triple-lance ravager that does 3 lance shots instead of 4, but does so at 36" instead of 18", which means it has double the output in the earliest rounds of the game, which is when those types of shots matter the most.

Then you'd still have 55 points left to spend on something else. Also, just out of curiousity, why heat lances on the scourges instead of haywire? That leads me to believe that you're deep striking your scourges, and you probably shouldn't be. If you put them on the table turn 1, they have a 36" threat range with haywire blasters, so they should be able to hit what you want them to hit with good deployment.

I just ran some numbers on the difference between 10 warriors in a raider with racks vs 5 warriors in a venom, and the warriors in the raider only average 3 more hits per shooting phase(with their rerolls inside rapid fire range) than the venom warriors for 60 extra points. At longer ranges, they're completely outclassed.

If you made both of those changes, you'd have 115 points available, and could get another unit of 5 scourges with haywire blasters if you wanted, or you could go with another ravager or something.

Heat lances instead because of all the toughness on the board. I felt with going second it would work out. The raider was because I didn't have another venom. I understand with the blasters. I'll take them out next time and trade just for warriors. I am currently investing in space wolves so I won't be spending too much more on this army for a minute. But what I can do is put my elite unit in a raider and set more warriors into a venom.

Sounds like heresy, if we believed in that sort of thing. Razz

J/K, I have eldar, tau, orks, and necrons too.
