PostSubject: Pointers for 1500p, talk of CTC & Heroes' Path   Mon Mar 14 2016, 16:40

Hello!

So, we're having a fairly casual tournament going on at a local game shop here. We've played a few games now, started from 1000p (two games of 1000p, with the option of changing your list between the rounds) and now we're at 1250p with 1500p following up.

So, it happened that after playing two games of the usual Venoms & Reavers list I got kinda tired of it for now and thought of making something different. Ended up with me buying 5x Talos for a CTC I am now going to play on my 1250p set. As if that wasn't enough I figured hey, if we're going this way lets go all the way, and added a Dark Artisan to that. List looks like this:

Code:
Primary Detachment
Formation Detachment: Dark Artisan
1x Cronos /w Spirit Probe
1x Talos /w Twin-Linked Heat Lance
1x Haemonculus /w Webway Portal (WARLORD)
- 355pts

Formation Detachment
Corpsethief Claw
5x Talos /w Haywire Blasters
- 650pts

Combined Arms Detachment
HQ:
Court of the Archon /w 1x Lhamean
- 10pts

Troops:
5x Kabalite Warriors
5x Kabalite Warriors /w Venom
- 135 pts

Fast Attack:
3x Reavers
3x Reavers
- 96pts

Not sure whether to use the WWB as I'm facing 3 dreadnoughts (two with pods). Might need everything on board at once to counter them. Might go second just for the heck of it and let him deploy first if I get the chance. Will be terrible anyways and likely lose in points.

Anyways, the game will go how it goes. The thing is, I'm currently experiencing a fixation for Talosii (or whatever the plural is) and while I was planning to play pure DE lists, the idea of having Harlequins to help me out seemed something new. Issue is that the Masque costs too much points just for a small ally detachment I'm mainly after and am now asking if anyone has experience of comboing Heroes' Path with CTC (or just multiple units of multiple Talos)? The defensive spells of Phantasmacy and ML2 seems really cheesy, or maybe even Invisibility if you manage to pull that off from the spell table.

Would that be of extremely bad taste or terrible waste of points? Or maybe something in between I should give a try to?

Cheers in advance!

Edit: the tournament meta is very Marine heavy. 2x BA, 2x DA, 2x SW, 1x generic SM, 1x CSM and I guess Necrons count as a MEQ too. Then we have 3x IG, 2x Orks and a pure daemon player with me as DE. We're housing a rule for
Code:
“All armies must be comprised from a single faction codex. The only exceptions to this rule are units from any of the following codices: Cult Mechanicus, Skitarii, Imperial Knights, Harlequins, Khorne Daemonkin, Militarum Tempestus, Legion of the Damned & Inquisition. These codices may be used in conjunction with a CAD detachment from an army who they are considered to be Battle Brothers with.”

Sorry don't have much experience with those kind of lists but they seem find, yet vulnerable to gravitation weapons.

The Dark Eldar Codex sucks. You probably won just because your enemy loaded his dice to loose. Never forget this mantra and spread the word. Mention it in every discussion possible, people can´t get enough of that valuable information and need to be reminded regularely.

Harlequins work amazing with the ctc I can personally attest, however the heroes path is free first blood if you aren't careful and the solitaire is tricky to use. I recommend a cast of players instead.

Ah, true, hadn't looked into that! Still has the Death Jester I can't seem to put into any proper use though. How'd you advice gearing them up, seeing CTC is a very all-around unit in general? I'd guess ML2 Shadowseer with a possible Mask of Secrets stuck with the Troupe in a FA choice budget-Raider/Starweaver.

I have a vision of few Fusion Pistols and Embraces but that's really nothing Haywires can't do.

Or Perhaps Caresses to kill whatever grav.

I run mine on foot actually. They give out a crusader bubble which sunergizes nicely with the claw. and with fleet they are realistically moving about 10" a turn (with the run) being in a transport prevents them from casting most of their powers, veil of tears is amazing and dance of shadows can easily net your claw a 3+ or 2+ cover save.

I do recommend ml 2 and a mask. I usually runot caresses and lastly remember the reapers death is not enough. Abuse it to force even marines to run into the waiting arms of your talos. It is beautiful.
