Well, as I said, most Tau units come with immunity automatically. The same wargear also gives them Night Vision, so if they buy them it might be more for that.

The other aspect of course is your meta. I mean, blind immunity might seem like a waste of points now, but if DE get loads of Blind weapons and you play against them often, suddenly it's looking like a much wiser investment.

When you're initiative 2 and people want as much cover as they can, then it's not worthless. Land speeder storms have cerberus launchers that force you to take blind tests, and they're decidedly more popular in my particular meta these days.

It's also a 1pt upgrade so you can pretty much just use it to make a list up to whatever total you need, as there's usually a few going spare.

I feel like I do this every thread, but there is already an eldar army that gets tons of blind weapons (for cheap or free). Moreover, most of them are defensive grenades with the blast rule (which is way more useful than on lances, although generally at a shorter range and no overwatch) and have the melee benefit. Additionally they have a unique way to reduce a units initiative with tangle foot.

To be honest, the corsairs release makes me question what they can really do with the dark eldar to make them both unique and effective. Corsairs really do everything dark eldar do now much better, with the minor exceptions of raiders, wyches, and grotesques. Maybe I'll be pleasantly surprised - but I fully expect to be playing corsairs for the next few years.

I've been thinking the same.

Certainly nothing I've seen in these rumours makes me think I'll be going back to DE as my main Eldar-y army. Hell, I can probably do it as a single question - do they HQs have some actual bike/wing options? If the answer is 'no' then I'll be sticking with Corsairs.

Likewise, I've already started converting my wyches to Malevolents and Reavers, and my Hellions to Barons and Jet Packs. So far these rumours have failed to make me regret either of those decisions.

There were model rumors, new Wyches.

And while some of you have said you don't think they'd replace the Wyches, consider that they've probably not sold very well for a while now, and that GW probably correlates that problem with the models, rather than considering that it's the rules that are killing them.

But even so, I think the Wyches are easily the least cool looking models in the range. They're basically just Kabalites who took off most of their armour plates. They have cool poses, but their outfits are pretty plain. Maybe they want to make them more distinct looking and more dynamic. If I was going to replace any minis in the DE range, it'd be the Wyches.

That's stupid! Who would think that suddenly, after you change the rules the models are responsible for the fact that nobody is buying them anymore!

Sadly, that's exactly why I think you might be right. Games Workshop it is, right?

I would love to see new wyches models. Maybe more like dark elves withes.
But they need some buff as well.

Still can`t imagine DE will be release this year. And they will not be like SYPERPAWER! Like tau for example. We will be in the middle. Maybe worse, than tau, but better tham CSM. MPO.

my mistake there were; I'll amend it to...there were no rumours of new unit types/vehicles

I personally feel this is trying into the end times narrative theme that's kinda going on with all these new campaigns and books.

The "endtimes" have been going on in 40k since the Eye of Terror campaign, around the end of the 3rd edition. Some things that happened since then have been retconned, like Eldrad's death or the Wulfen emerging from the Eye itself, but the story has not advanced one bit. It's still the year M41.999 and almost every single planet in the galaxy is a warzone. New campaigns, novels and other works of fluff not explicitely set in the past tell of events in different places, but all of them supposedly happen at the same time.

OMG, I totally forgot about that one. I guess my brain doesn't even consider it a part of the range, such is my hatred for that model. LOL

But I'll amend my previous statements by saying that the Wyches are the second least cool mini in the range and that if I could replace 2 minis, they'd be the second. Right after that god awful Grotesque.

They're on two totally different levels; the Wyches are just kinda "meh" in my opinion, while the Grotesque is more "dear god what is that THING". I suppose my brain was repressing all memory of it, and frankly, I don't blame it. lol

I'd nominate the models for The Baron, The Duke, The Decapitator, Lady Malys and Vect being the worst in the range.

I know in the fluff Wyches can be both male and female. Do you think they might change it to an all female unit, like witches for Dark Elves?

Then again, they may just try and make them more dynamic like the harlequin models, all jumping off rocks or something.

I don't see how this would pay off. Why go to such lengths as to overhaul a rather new kit and bend the fluff, just to release a box of all-female and/or better looking Wyches, if Bloodbrides already exist like that in the fluff and are waiting for rules and models to properly represent them?

I might be alone in this, but I'd rather just have cheap (in terms of £) wyches with decent detail, and save all the extras and dynamic poses for HQs and such.

Games workshop is selling grotesques... They call them crypt horrors though. Don't know why...

While Crypt Horrors are the best replacement GW has, they are not intended to be used that way.

But by now, even the higher-ups at GW have realized that Finecast was a mistake and they can make much better (and better selling) models in plastic. When was the last time they released a new resin model? 2014, if recall correctly.
The second wave for 5th ed. Dark Eldar models came out around the same time as Finecast, so we had the questionable honor of getting as many models in resin as GW could make: Remakes of the Archon, the Succubus, Lelith, Urien and the Incubi, a Haemonculus, the four Court models, the Beastmaster models, Mandrakes, Wracks, Grotesques, and even Vect's slave girls but not Vect himself.
So many models that are essencially outdated. I'm not going to expect too much from GW, but it would be a smart decision to update most of these models along with the codex.

Fine cast models are like perfect little distilled nuggets of everything that is wrong with GW.  I still have not touched one outside of it's package as I fear it will make me realize I immediately need a new hobby.

Obligatory Fine Cast Rant:

Everything in the dark eldar line that's still fine cast needs to be replaced before wyches do.  I'm still using ancient metal "warp beasts" as my kymarea pack, although I'm lucky enough to have found metal beast masters on skyboards (that didn't cost me frickin $25 per model...).

I wouldn't be surprised if GW sanctioned these rumours themselves. Wyches and Hellions aren't selling, so they hint that they're going to become amazing so everybody snaps them up before they're re-boxed and re-priced. That way they don't even have to change the rules to get the sales.

When did I become so cynical?!

If they were going to do that, I'd have thought they'd propose rules for hellions that would actually make them worth a damn. Rolling Eyes

Besides, I'm pretty sure that GW management would rather saw their own legs off than admit people buy their models because of their in-game rules. Razz
