PostSubject: Corsair & Eldar 1850   Wed Jan 13 2016, 23:35

This is an 1850 Corsair and Eldar list that I have tried out and plan on playing for awhile making small adjustments as I go.

My meta is a fairly typical west coast meta.  Drop pod armies, battle demi company, necron decurion, scatter Eldar, war conviction etc...
I have had a little practice with the army and it seems like it will turn out great once I get used to using psychers (actually remembering about the psychic phase) and how to best deploy the VSG.

Here is my list

Corsair fleet raiding company and Eldar CAD.

Corsair fleet raiding party

+Command Crew+

HQ
Corsair Prince (Master of ancient treasure) w/ Cloud Dancer bike, Void sabre, shadow field, mask of secretes.

+Coterie (Sky Burners)+

HQ
Baron w/ wild psycher lvl1, Cloud Dancer Bike.

Troop
3 Cloud Dancers w/ 3 Scatter Lasers

5 Corsair Ghostwalker Band w/ brace of pistols

Fast Attack
Hornet w/ 2 Pulse Lasers

Hornet w/ 2 Pulse Lasers

Heavy Support
Warphunter w/ Twin-Shuriken Catapult, Kinetic shroud, Corsair Void Burners

+Coterie (Hate Bringers)+

HQ
Baron w/ Cloud Dancer Bike.

Troop
3 Cloud Dancers w/ Twin-Shuriken Catapults

+Craftworld Eldar (CAD)+

HQ
Farseer w/ Windrider Jetbike.

Troops
3 Windrider Jetbikes w/ 3 Scatter Lasers

3 Windrider Jetbikes w/ Twin-Lasblasters

Fast Attack
6 Warp Sliders
Warp spider Exarch.

Heavy Support
Eldar Warp Hunter w/ Holo-Fields.

Lord of War
Skathach Wraithknight w/ Scatter laser, Inferno Cannon, Scatter shield 5++.

Fortifications
Void Shield Generator w/ 3 Void Shields.

This list is lots of fun and really gives me solid deployment options with the VSG, reserve manipulation, outflank, scout etc... Having lots of deployment option is incredibly helpful against all of the different kinds of armies out there. The VSG really helps with alpha strike armies like drop pod armies where I might want to deploy the majority of my army and keep it safe within the void shields, or in some cases play the reserve game if I feel I will get obliterated right away.

I was a little concerned about having to make the prince my warlord, but have come to not caring so much. He is expensive, but has so far been fairly reliable.  The void saber reliably kill a model or two a turn and the shadow field is very nice for keeping him around a little longer.  The mask of secretes has been amazing and I won't leave home without it.  Making him fearless and with the -2 LD bubble to break the enemy has been second to none.

Corsairs bikes with the brace of pistols have been great. That extra attack in combat has actually been noticeable. As well as having the shooting options.

Ghostwalkers have been great as they are low on the target propriety list and scored be enough maelstrom Strom point or stolen them etc.  I first used lasblasters, but found them lacking.  The brace of pistols will not be my go to with them. The extra combat ability and shooting options have been very useful.  Love these guys.

The warp hunters have been great. Not OP which is nice, but constantly useful.  I have even used the flamer D shots when enemy units get into my grills with great effect. I think two unit is ideal.

The new knight is very nice and I think the 5++ is crucial on this fella. I would love the extra shooting from the big guns, but find the 5++ keeps him around longer. Which is better in my opinion. Not relying on cover is very nice.
I want to try the deathshroud as well. The melta has been great, but the hellstorm and massive blast are also worth considering.

The Sky Burner Baron is wild psycher mostly for the extra power dice. I will also roll on divination and hope for forwarning or perfect timing so I can throw one or two dice at the power and not sorry too much about perils

C&C is very welcome.

Let me know your thoughts

Would I be right in thinking the Prince is going with the Shuriken Catapult bikes?

I have to say, I'd want to try and fit heavy weapons of some kind onto the Corsair Jetbikes and Windriders. I know you won't want to drop the Ghostwalkers, but if you got rid of your first Baron's jetbike and psyker level (putting him with the Ghostwalkers instead), you'd have enough points to give Scatter Lasers to your second Windrider squad.

I am curious though - you talked about Corsair Jetbikes being good in combat. What sort of stuff have they beaten? I ask because I'd have thought S3 would be a big problem for them, even with an extra attack. Also, was there a Prince and/or Baron with them?

Not that the bikes are good I'm combat, but that they can do that little extra damage in the combat or win by 1.
Bikes with a baron and without the prince can charge smallish tactical squads 5-6 marines and still come out ahead with hammer or wrath and the double armed bonus.
The prince isn't exactly a godsend in combat, but he does tend to kill 1-2 marines eachround of combat which so far has swung the combats in my favour just enough to win fairly reliably against non dedicated combat units.
I pick my targets carefully.

Can the baron go with the ghostwalkers? I don't remember that being an option for him?
Also I chose to have two bike units with know heavy weapons for a reason. Smaller target priorities and for grabbing objectives across the field. They are sacrificial for the most part. Or body guards for the seer and prince.
If anything I would consider adding more naked corsair bikes so that that may guard the prince better.

I will consider the baron in ghostwalkers to get more scatter lasers. I just like the extra wounds for the bikes and the tactical flexibility he gives to the unit. It has actually made a big difference to the bikes survivability.

Ah, I see.

Sorry, I was just interested because I'm still unsure about what escort to use for my own Prince - and I wondered if bikes were better in combat than I'd realised.

He can join any troop or elite unit.

Since he's not an IC, he's free to join a unit of infiltrators. He also doesn't prevent them from infiltrating and/or scouting.

Still seems odd to me, but each to their own. pirat

Fair enough.

Going to see if I can get enough converted tonight for the ITC Tshft tournament in Seattle this weekend. Will be stoked if I can get it done.

I might take your scatter suggestion.

Good luck if you manage it.

If you get enough done to attend, I'd love to hear how your list performs. Smile
