Love the death jester ... Love it.

Because u can hide theme pushing the enemy to a bad surrond for go for theme.

You can't hide them as Tau missiles do not require LoS. Technically you can put them in the cellar of a ruin, shut the trap door and they still can get hit by the missile.
There is no "hide" because the missile ignores that completely.
There is also no "waste" of firepower as they can just fire at different targets on a model to model base.

But that's called tactics, just use your head.

So unless you use your head with the nose of your opponent, your tactics will not work as your assumptions are wrong.
That is like saying "It is pretty easy to hide from an atomic warhead, just close your eyes and shout - I CANT SEE YOU SO YOU CANT SEE ME!"

Everyone, stop derailing this topic with flame and troll. If you need to have a civilized discussion about the value of los and other tactical nuances that are more argument based then start a thread.
This thread is about the theoretical discussion of choice in a civilized form and then the practical discussion. Of their practical use once actually used and tested in battle against a plethora of foes and within the combinations of the one spirit.

Sorry Skari. I cannot manage the language so well, so maybe happen that some "shades of arrogance" can appear in my words, without my will.
My apologize for that.

I just wanna say that in a DE army, that I can assume they run as an MSU army (or some of, I consider even 3 Grots on raider or similar units. Not any deathstar), I prefer use 300 points splitted in 3, well covered foot-size characters, than a single, fragile, unit of clowns in a paper-transport as the Raider.
I've tried these 3 guys, and just against Tau you can get some struggle. BUT in this case, you can use theme as you use the rest of the army: distraction. You know that the heroes will be killed, but this is even a game of timing, so you can think about getting the advantage from this sacrifice.
Anyway, play against Tau is always a struggle. I don't wanna say that Path of Heroes is the answer, no. Never said. BUT IF I have to choose between theme, and the Cast of Players, I will choose the first one even against a Tau.
Because at least, they give me 3 different units, instead of one. MSU style.

How do you have found the Jester? There's somenthing on you Youtube Channel?

PS: You're followed even here in Italy. So keep on Smile

So he first game with the one spirit was great. I played against my brothers white scars, he usually runs a lot of tactical marines, transports and drop pods with support, he just came into some more bikes so he wanted to surprise me , two units of bikes a grav command biker squad, captain bike and chaplain bike. Tacs in a rhino and ten stern guard in rhino, supported by two storm talons.

All in all a nasty army . We randomly picked the spirit shards and the dark Eldar, Eldar and harlequins were the feature! My brother deployed first and left his command bikes and stern guard in reserve. That was the biggest mistake, but the. He gave me first turn, I blew up the tactical rhino and the death jester made one of the bike units fall off the table with his ability!
Then it was downhill from there... The reserves for my bro did not show up in time and I picked his army appart.

At 500 points, you're best with a kitted-out Jest, or simply go under and take a heroes path.

People trashing the path neglect to understand a few things.

1, an opponent firing valuable ignores cover weaponry at your 60-point models isn't firing it at less valuable stuff like open topped transports full of troops who hate explosions.

2, if they fire it at your solitaire, 3W, 3++ and EW will protect him.

And besides the cheap death jester the other two are easy to hide out of LOS. Move Shadowseer, cast in psychic phase, run in shooting phase behind a building. Lurk or charge with the Solitaire.

Can a Scatterbike squad mess up your death jester? Yes. But not everything in the game is a Scatterbike.

At 500 I would take barebones bikes and Voidweaver (maybe prism cannon), troupe in Starweaver with either kisses or caresses depending on what the list needs, Starmist on the troupe master as you can run and charge, and maybe a caress on the master.

I want to preface with "there is not really a tau player ato my lgs" but I feel the defensive capabilities of veil of tears is grossly underrated. It's not really the affect and random dice roll. It's the fact that nothing can target you over 24" away. My personal vote is for the path as it is pretty easy to deny Los with them. But if you're running a cast I recommend no transport. The veil of tears will prevent any long range shots coming your way and the combination of not being slowed by terrain/crusader/fleet means you're moving an average of 12" a turn anyways while being much safer, of course this does reduce your assault threat radius.

On topic I thought I would share with one of my favorite dark eldar YouTubers that this series in part inspired my latest list. 1850 with models from every faction of eldar (including some exodite conversions) and all in a bound list too. I'll post it off anyone is interested.

Okay, bear in mind this Is for casual play, I believe shredder has already heard propositions for how this list could be much more absurd. So I welcome any criticisms please remember that some things have been avoided simply to avoid min/maxing.

Eldar primary

Farseer ×2 (deathstar)

Wjb w/warlock ×2 (warlocks sub optimal but the chance to zip around healing people or the knight while having guaranteed access to shrouded is nice) also these are my exodites, cold one riders.

Wraithknight w/ sword&shield (no guns at all for points reasons and to encourage me to run instead of shooting, no big scary D guns because he's strong enough as it is, this is one of those "I'm not that guy I swear" choices)

Dark eldar allied

Archon: shadowfield, agoniser, soul trap, armor of misery, wwp (goes in the deathstar)

Incubi ×5 w/klaivex (the suboptimal deathstar, I love them. Other choices are seer council, wraithguard, wraithblade, and a cast of players)

Kabalite warriors ×5 w/ blaster in venom w/ dual cannon

Corsair raiding party

Prince w/ mask of secrets, void blade and shadowfield (deathstar)

Void dreamer lvl3 w/ void blade and shadowfield (deathstar)

Ghostwalkers×6 w/ fusion gun, sniper×5, hwg (suboptimal)

Harlequin formation

Cast of players w/no upgrades

Solitaire

Shadowseer ml2 (I lied about the upgrades)

Death jester

Please merge my post T_T

That is an insanely expensive unit with 5 characters, but it does have 3 2++ invulns and a very good chance of them being rerollable thanks to fortune. It is maddening and the reason for all other suboptimal choices.

Thanks for posting that. Just one point - the Corsair detachment would have to be the primary one (as the Prince has to be your warlord).

Anyway, in terms of the list, it probably doesn't help that I'm not a fan of death stars at the best of times (honestly, I don't like spending a lot of points on any single unit - death star or otherwise silent).

In any case, have you considered splitting it into 2-3 smaller death stars?

e.g. you could leave the Archon, Void Dreamer in the Incubi (though, either way, I'd probably want a Raider over WWP). Then have the Corsair Prince and 1 or 2 Farseers on Jetbikes in a Jetbike unit (possibly a Warlock Conclave). Some upgrades on the Cast of Players would turn it into a 3rd death star.

I know it's just a casual list, but even then 3 mini-deathstars just seems more fun to me than one big one.

I had considered it but the deathstar comes from its durability to me. Breaking it up removes the consistency of getting fortune for the reroll as well as the multiple shadowfields. As well as allowing one invisibility to protect them all.

The wwp over the raider is for pinpoint deployment of the -4 ld (minimum) bubble into a shriek.

With the death jester rule if I land next to anything and shoot it It will test on ld-6 and most likely fall back.

If the shadowseer gets close you've got the potential to pull off the mirror of minds cheese with that leadership debuff.

I'm not running a cast of players lol.

If you're not running a cast of players, why does your list say "cast of players"? Suspect

I love all the discussion that this thread has created! The beauty of our hobby.

I am excited to continue working on my harlequins. I left my paints and glue at a friends house so I have been content building my revenant Titan Smile

I have been thinking about the corsairs, with more and more talk about their use, I am really liking the idea of a void dreamer, BUT at 500pts spending 200 pts on characters with a prince and a dreamer seems like over kill. However the powers that the void dreamer can get are pretty solid and I think they would be cool,

My experience with the void dreamer was cautious but paid out quite well. It's not hard to safely cast warp blink or what have you and the mobility it adds to a unit is amazing. Especially considering how it doesn't prevent charges. It made my seer council star inescapable, though your lists don't often feature deathstars of that magnitude. I mean mine usually don't either but if you want to defend the point I'm sure it could prove educational. I simply found that force multipliers are cumulative, I guess I'm a little late to the party lol.

I'm looking forward to trying the dreamer.

Another game was played! Patrons for the channel already have it released to them.

It was against black Templars, sisters of battle and an assassin!

The spirit forces chosen (at random) were the coven, dark Eldar and the corsairs !

The grotesquerie was awesome and did most of the heavy lifting, the corsair prince is a boss.

I have modified the lists a tad.

I am also considering optimizing the combinations, to make a number of 1500pt lists that range in combinations... But would allow me to play with the unit selections.

Hi followers of the spirit.

I am working on a revenant Titan. My harlequins have their star weaver built now and I purchased another box of sky weavers... So I can run another formation.

I have another game , a big one scheduled for this Sunday night it will be a 3000 point apocalypse game!

I am thinking of running certain elements of the spirit series and because the game is against necrons I want to run a bit of a freak show theme. With leadership modifiers and some powers here and there with shrouded and stealth ravagers in formation to take out the enemy tanks.
