I really hope forgeworld armies lose the "over-powered" stigma.  They really are all about fluff and flavor in my opinion.  It doesn't hurt though that they tend to have unique and effective rules that are usually updated often enough to keep up with power creep.  The renegades/vraks list has been updated at least twice since the CSM list has for example.

As for having better toys?  It seems that under the right conditions they basically get all the same stuff all the other eldar factions get, except maybe some specialized melee weapons (harlequin kiss/caress, flesh gauntlet etc).  It'll be interesting though to see if they get more unique relics than the pointless bale light and void sword.

I'll admit I am excited about the possibilities of dual dissonance pistols  Twisted Evil

As I mentioned yesterday, I'm really dying to know what those shadow-weave grenades are too.  You'd think they might be defensive/blind grenades by the name.

Indeed. Also, IIRC, most of the OP stuff they released was stuff that GW had written the rules for.

It'll be interesting to see if they get unique relics at all.

One thing I heard (and which I really hope is true) is that Void Sabres are now +1S AP3 Rending. On a S4 Corsair Prince, that would be a pretty nice weapon.

That would be pretty awesome, and would more than justify the price tag.  As it was the void sabre was inferior to basic power weapons 5 out of 6 hits at a higher cost.

So basically a Strength 5 ap 3 rending sword on an hq... and the huskblade archon goes back into storage.

I was thinking about how pointless those aethermancy powers are until I realized that they make the void hardened armor option much more viable.  Rolling 3+1 powers on that chart you could basically field 10 man units with power armor and just bampf them around the table doing their thing.  With no way to ignore perils though the dreamer is eventually going to run out of luck.

Warp tunnel would seem to be ideal for this (besides being WC2).  With 3+ armor you could basically move the unit across an entire table without scatter and statistically be unlikely to take an unsaved wound.  Then unload two melta guns and a crap load of pistols before assaulting... or bravely running away again.

The new perils chart is a bit depressing, tbh.


In any case, I'm looking forward to the HQs in this book. From what I've seen so far, I'll finally be able to spend points on my characters without feeling that I'm just throwing them down the drain.

I don't think FW have been overpowered for a long time, perhaps back in 5th when things like Wasp/Warwalker spam became a thing yes sure but not really in the modern game. A LOT of FW stuff is overcosted specifically to avoid the stigma of being OP.

Likewise.

If anything, Corsairs are looking more Dark Eldar-y than Dark Eldar.

Oh, some depressing news, guys - it seems Void Sabres aren't AP3.

Looks like Corsairs don't have a single good melee weapon then.

Btw. if the Corsairs update won't level them up to at least T2 armies leve, I'm done with 40k for now. Too much stress for my faint heart. Very Happy Not to mention that I got back into hobby with FB, bought around 2k pts of Dark Elves and half a year after that they shut it down. (PS. I'm a student with a malnourished wallet, lol).

A chap on Warseer who apparently has the book. The same chap who provided all the leaks in the rumour thread.

Apparently, when he said the Void Sabre was AP3, he was actually thinking of the Shard of Anaris. Quite a feat, given that the Shard is in a different book, and isn't AP3 either. Neutral

If he offers any more updates, I'll let you know.

So.... blasters are 10 points in the corsairs list  Laughing

Malovelants cost more than space marines though.  2 wounds i guess.

Prince is pretty much an autarch at the same price, different special rules of course and has +1 strength (which is awesome).  The bike costs the same too, but can swap the TL weapon out for splinter rifles or lasblasters (yes please).  Max 1 prince per detachment.  Models within 12" of prince, and can see him can re-roll regroup tests...

Baron is basically exarch level in stats but costs 30 points, can take a ton of options like prince including jetpack, jetbike, psyker levels and even a void sabre.  He's permanently attached to whatever squad he starts with, but he has a fixed leadership.

Either can take a "wild" psyker level and choose from divination or telekinesis.

O and I was wrong you can totally take 20 troops in the reaver bands, and you have to choose between a brace of pistols and lasblaster/splinter rifle.  You'll end up spending 100 points on jetpacks (or 10 for power armor) if you choose to go that route, but you can do it.  Really stupid since mesh armor (4+) would cost 100 points but the whole unit gets 3+ for 10 points?  Anyway no heavy weapons, but 2 special per 5.  Full unit can take haywire for +25 points.

Aethermancy starting to look a little more appealing.

Rangers (ghostwalkers) are basically reaver bands that get infiltrate, scout and stealth.  They cost +2 points per model and can even take jetpacks.

I'm already imagining insect like wings folded back into camo cloaks.

Void sabre is indeed ap3, rending.  Brace of pistols count as both splinter and shuriken and can be fired however the heck you want.  Dissonance charges are something between a melta bomb and a dissonance cannon.  Dissonance cannons/pistols though only increase in strength and ap on a 6 to hit.  Shadow weave grenades are just defensive grenades.

Hornets went up 5 points, pulse lasers still 5 points a piece.  So basically 80 points for a squad-able vehicle with front side av 11, 2 hp, and 4 strength 8 ap 2 range 48" shots.  Can snap shot after moving flat out.  There's 240 points of my army decided on.

Voidstorm squad is in there, cost more than space marines and minimum size 3.  Not sure why you'd take them even at WS/I 5 and 2(3) attacks. Phoenix bomber got moved to fast attack? not sure why.

Special night wing formation grants ignore cover against other (zooming) flyers.  Warp hunter formation works like fire prism squad.  Gets up to twin linked, ordanance, 7" blast D.  Hornet formation lets them come in on a 2+ and fire full bs after jinking that turn.  Wasp formation lets them re-roll saves and shooting on the turn they arrive.

I am kind of glad that you have to chose between a brace or a rifle. Thought it would be a little too good if they had both.

I like the looks of that Hornet formation :-). Good thing I already have a few.
Also hornets were already base 70pts. So 80pts with pulse is the same.

Where is this info from? Link?

eh someone is snapping shots of their book on 4chan.  I don't know if you've ever been there but you may not want to go.  It makes the real dark city look like a petting zoo.

You can google "40k general /tg/" if you want, I'm sure they'll end up in a more respectable place sooner or later.  I don't even know if we're allowed to link to 4chan here.

Oh and they'll be gone in a couple hundred posts. I saved all of them but they're pretty blurry. I can put them up some place (not here, I made that mistake once already), later when I get home if there is nowhere else.

That said there are a ton of typos and discrepancies in the book.  I think I'll wait to order mine after all scratch

I also thought Hornets were 65 points for some reason.
