Everyone and his mother (is that the correct saying? I don't know) seems to be using Incubbi but somehow I never had good experience with them and I try to stay away from close combat until I invest in a fully blown grotesquerie.

What do you do with them? Do you run them?

I own twenty of them but never field them in competitive game. They lack the survivability of Grotesques.

They don't make my competitive list either, just for fun. I do enjoy playing with though as most of my opponent s are Space Marines an d they fear Incubi for good reason

I have used them a few times recently but can't say I've been that impressed.

I used them a couple of times, but I was not too happy, yes they can cut marines apart, but just simple marines.Marines CC specialist units like death company or terminators eat incubi... maybe if they had granades...

I've had good success with incubi in various builds and numbers. BUT, as others have said if your going full stop competitive then guns are usually better and grots are better if taken from covens. I'll often run both.

In smaller pts games things change because the klaivex can be your warlord and they are little self contained missiles clocking in just 15 pts over a blaster warrior squad but they survive explodes and firepower much better. This makes them useful for retaliating against things that like to get close and wreck your rides, like podded marines for example. They also work well at digging camping units out of cover. Here is where I see people lament grenades but it rarely matters honestly. I won't hesitate to assault any non dedicated assault unit in cover. Conversely the vast majority of dedicated assault units that are in cover are non fleet and really have no business slogging through terrain so its rare to find competent players hiding these types of units there. Just my take I'm sure it varies across the spectrum.

As for Agathas list in the other thread, her opponents list is rather friendly as demi co's go IMO so for my part I don't see the need to cut out nicely painted units like that particular squad of incubi. And again I've found mine rather useful.

Seconded. I like to run mine as two small units of 5 in a venom. Like darts or surgical buzzsaws. With plenty of other threats on the table it's easy to ignore them and then all of a sudden they are running amok in people's backfield. I think 10 man units in raiders are too prime a target and tend to overkill what they swing athe leaving them flapping in the breeze in the middle of your angry opponents army. Now if you want to use that psychological effect to your advantage its a pretty pricey suicide squad but whatever it kills plus hopefully eating up some kind of fire could have some use.

"Every man and his dog" Smile

I've never had such a bad experience with them. They die just like anything else, so you can't expect them to survive as well as marines.
And just like everything else we have, they suffer from bad dice rolls. But playing Dark Eldar, you need to expect it.
I like to put them in raiders with stealth so that they get the charge.

Well, the list she's going up against is kind of a wank list also Wink

Just field a pair of Land Raiders against it and you'd walk all over them ten ways till sunday, much less with some 2+ saves. So why not play around with Incubi?

I would generally second the consensus. They are not *bad* but neither are they that good. If you wanted to run them I'd follow the advice Brom suggested, I think that's the only sane way to even try to use them nowadays. They are decent at being bully/distraction units.

I've had some good experiences with my Incubi.
Actually the way Brom presented them is close to how I've used them.
I moved up and charged a squad (special weapon havocs) in a cover/building. Survived their hits and next turn wiped them. Moved up to the next floor. Rinsed and repeated with another havoc squad.
Another time I kept them in their venom as fire support, waited for a unit to DS (raptors) and then jumped them. Blood everywhere Very Happy

PostSubject: Re: Incubbi    Fri Oct 09 2015, 10:42

Personally, I love Incubi. They are easily my favorite unit, and my crown gems when it comes to gorgeous models. I have a small army, yet I have 18 Incubi and a Klaivex. Most of which were purely for the aspect of painting them. So bear in mind this is coming from a Incubi enthusiast, but also remember that I have also never played a game without using them.

In terms of effectiveness, they are overall one of my favorite units to employ, though I rarely set them without Drazhar, they are still very strong. The AP is awesome, they are able to butcher basically any melee unit in combat so long as they wound, most won't get a save, their Initiative is good, although personally I think it should be higher, DO NOT FORGET, the Klaive ADDS +1 to their Strength, so they wound on 4+ on average(I made the mistake of playing a full game wounding on 5+ thinking it was strength 3 and was about to come write a massive rant on Incubi.) survivability is hazy, they have the 3+ which for Dark Eldar units is very good, but isn't much when compared to other units in 40k, as long as you give them transports they will either murder enemy squads or leave them reeling. Though from what I've heard from people they are a 'specialist' squad, aimed to take out key units, not for the prime reason of hanging with other super melee enemies.

Paired with Drazhar, will be terrifying, though you may lose Incubi, Drazhar does help them out, and on top of that, Drazhar is one of the biggest tanks you'll find in the Codex, 2+ armor, Demiklaives and 4 strength, wounds on 4+ with multiple attacks, and a decent AP, with Rampage too, a squad of 4 Incubi and Drazhar on a venom will flay enemies.

I have never used grotesques, but after an overall look at their stats and really going in depth, I would love some grotesques, but on ebay I have a hard time finding them, and if I do, 3 of them the bidding goes up to basically $60.

Personal Definition of an Incubi effectiveness:
8/10

They can use venoms to quickly be unloaded on enemy squads, a grotesque may be more effective against tough enemy melee, but incubi can be thrown anywhere and be there fast, very great at dispatching devestator squads and other key enemy units faster than most other units could, just don't rely on them to be taking on melee freaks of other armies. not to mention an Incubi retinue on a Archon looks great. ;D

Just one of many reasons to love The Dark City is the breadth if experience and advice on here... Very interesting reading all this, I'm going to take the plunge and invest in some, but it'll be Har Ganeth Executioners on round bases. I love the skull faces so much...

Anyway, My take on them from reading the above is don't expect them to be unkillable super warriors, pick the right fight... which does seem to be our modus operandi in general.

@The Fume Knight check out the gallery for great pics of Rat Ogres converted into Grots using Talos bits... It inspired me and now I have 7 Grots!

Well I use incubi in minimum squads with klaivex as a threat that needs to be addressed. If they are not, someone gets to be punched in da face. If they are, some other elements of my army are free to spread pain. I dont expect them to kill their point's worth everytime. But they do have an effect worth more than their point's worth every time. OFC the list has to be built accordingly. They only struggle against hordes and sometimes Eldar. But hey... what doesn't...

As for Grots, did anyone try to make grots from Skaven Stormfiends? Should be even easier than using rat ogres. Price-wise they are not that different and they come with tubes, crystals and all kinds of stuff that is not far from Haemonculi design. There is one with more massive armour (which is kinda off) but it would mark the model as Aberration easily. So some talos bits, remaking of the heads and done... Whaddyathink?

I've converted some but they are massive and I use them as Talos rather than Grots. I do however have 12 converted Crypt Horrors that make up my Grotesquerie. Twisted Evil

I use stormfiends as grots. The armour is actually an overlayer and doesn't have to be used. They also come with some brilliant counts-as liquifiers if you're running them that way.

In the right situation Incubi have plenty of purpose. They do very well against infantry that have good armor saves. They will completely maul power armor or shooty terminators. I'm not sold as much on putting them in Venoms. I prefer a raider if I'm going to use them offensively. Keep them in a Venom if you want to protect your back field from someone deepstriking in. I take Incubi over Grotesques when playing against Grey Knights more often than not mostly because they hold up about as long and can do solid damage.

Not to derail the topic but count do you have a link to somewhere I can see those storm fiends? Possibly a size comparison? I really want to use a Corpse thief claw but need 3 more Talos.

and here's the stormfiend against a bunchy of other options as well as against a half built chronos

I wouldn't leave home without them. I run two squads of 5 on Venoms. This week against Blood angels they killed a squad of scouts, a warlord in terminator armour, a vindicator and a whirlwind, finishing the battle holding an objective and line breaker enabling me to win 8-3.

I've used them a fair bit and have had good success with them. They are a great bully unit that will mulch MEQ and basic troops fairly easily, thanks to their high Initiative. They can do okay against TEQ provided they don't have Storm Shields or a decent invul save. They don't do well against other elite assault units though. They're going to lose miserably against say, TWCs, or Wraiths. I've also found that if they don't do a lot of damage when they swing do to misses or failed to wound rolls (or charged a full 10 man squad of Marines in cover), even basic troops can bring them down without too much trouble as T3 makes it very easy to pile on the wounds. They are a good second-tier assault unit for DE. But I would never take them in lieu of Grotesques (which are the top-tier assault unit for DE), however, they can work well in conjunction with Grotesques as another scary CC unit your opponent has to worry about.

Thank you for the storm fiends link. Very helpful.

And I forgot to respond to something I read earlier. I wish I didn't already own 10 incubi whose models I love because those har ganeth executioners are just beautiful models.
