It's looking like khorne red. But i'm guessing it's some airbrush work, so maybe they didn't use GW colours

There are a couple of ways to get to this red, and as Nexs properly surmised, its airbrushed most likely. Airbrushing allows for a smoother, thinner layer of paint so some colors are the result of the underlying color effecting the subsequent color.

I would start with a black primer, then a burnt umber undercoat. If you are looking for a blend you can do a second layer or what have you on the areas you want lighter. Then I would do a deeper scarlet. Some lines might refer to it as scab red, or what have you. Two layers of that would produce this color. What REALLY helps that model is the deep blue grey parts. You can obviously line it with a pure bright red. Good luck my friend.

You get it by painint thin khorne red over black primer.

I would do as Azdrubael says. Very thin layers one after another until you get the shade you want.

Or you could try Black Primer, Mournfang Brown and then Khorne Red. I am guessing that you should be able to pull out better depth out of it with highlighting.

I'm fairly sure that's;

a Khorne red base
edge highlighted with Wildrider red
a very thin red glaze, can't remember GW's name for it, sorry
Ushabi bone spots on corners.

The blue is probably Steggy with Thunderhawk blue edge lights.

I've seen them use this on one of their painting tutorials, the SW flying brick's gem one, and you won't need an AB to achieve this result.

Hm - i found those flyers in Commoragh Raiders paiting guide

Black Primer

Base Color
Khorne Red
Nuln Oil
Khorne Red

Edge Highlights
Eviz Sunz Scarlet
Jokaero Orange

Cant read those GW guides without a strong desire to close them immediately. They do promote lousy painting style.

Just out of curiosity, what are your criticisms? I have some issues myself (they skip a lot of steps, don't talk about technique at all in favor of just listing paints and brushes used, and in some cases- I'm thinking of the Wych and Haemonculus Coven sections in the book- list paints that seem to go way off from the better-painted models in the showcase sections), but that's the actual color scheme I'm planning to paint from so I'd love it if you could go into detail Smile

I have a strong feeling that is because they do not use only GW products themselves which seems to be a dirty thing to them.
In earlier days they gave a lot of actual hobby advice. Nowadays they give you 5 steps and their product list. They would never mention established techniques like airbrushing or even the use of retarders or any product they do not sell.

Fair enough. I've been kind of puzzled by how inconsistent the information they've been releasing has been- while they're targeted to very basic painters, the Youtube videos have been genuinely useful, just to actually see someone doing what they describe.

And then they'll do things that I would never have believed if you'd told me, like the new revamp of their in-house brushes into something like five different sizes "designed" to go with base OR layer paints, and a ridiculous $20 "artificer" brush that just seems to be the same thing as those silly "insane detail" brushes I can get from Army Painter for $3.50.

And for a while there they were really trying to push airbrushing, or at least their "spray gun." They seem to have backed off in more recent publications and tutorials.
