PostSubject: Which to use; converting a "Dark Eldar" wraithknight.   Sat Aug 01 2015, 13:55

So I was thinking of bringing a wraithknight back into my list,  not because I'm WaAC but because there is now great incentive to bring the sword which I love.

Now I sold my actual wraithknight and that's fine with me. Now I'm looking at using 1 of two kits as counts as/proxies. So my question to you is; should I bring a tortured wraithbone construct that runs on souls  (converted from the Nagash kit) or a hulking Coven monstrosity (converted from the Skaven Verminlord kit)??

Opinions?

Wrong forum, Devs please move to discussion?

I don't have that kind of cash lol. I do have one friend who does great conversions. My best was a Necron destroyer lord made with a tomb spyder and an immortal. I'll take pictures of that if anyone is interested.

Interesting, I like both ideas, I think I would go with the converted Verminlord in the end. Wraithknights are normally piloted by twins, one dead whose soul stone is placed in the construct and one living pilot. I think the Monstrous Coven unit fits the concept better as it is a living being that is further powered by souls.

Seen the Nagash one done already. I'd go with the Coven uber-grotesque.

I worry I'll over represent the coven forces. I already use the talos and grots and stuff.

I think I'll go Nagash due to my preference for my Kabal. The current codex already pushes me towards coven. Now I could do a wych cult themed one with a vermin lord with chains and the like and a beast master handler on top.

Wraithbone is my vote, although I like the wych cult isea, especially since you mentioned using a sword

A giant robot is not dark eldar's style.

Have you read the dark Eldar books? Ask Vect about those robots again...

The only reason the DE don't use wraith constructs (robots) is because they don't have the ability to make spirit stones. The only reason they don't make spirit stones is they eat the souls of the dead instead. The Pain Engines (robots) are the DE equivalent of wraith constructs. they just use tortured souls to power them and look a little more hellish. conceptually the two are very very similar.

I can see the DE going in either direction. A Corsair or a fleet based pirate Kabal would probably go with the Nagash route, as would any Kabal with a fallen craftworld or renegade background. A Haemonculus heavy faction or one that specialised in terror tactics on battlefield would use the Verminlord. When it comes down to it both are good options and I look forward to seeing either.

Any chance of some links to the mentioned Nagash conversion?

Made mine from Nagash. Came out pretty good.

Wraithbne construct is psychically grown material. Dark eldar don't/can't use psychic powers. It's the reason we do have forges for our weapons. It's the same for the spirit stone. We can't make them, because they are heavilly dependant to psychic user, and any use of psy in Commoragh is dangerous, for luring She Who Thirst.

Yeah I'm aware of that but this is like saying a Formula 1 car is not a car because it's made out of fiberglass instead of metal like a Porche. Wraith constructs are made of Wraithbone sure, and Pain Engines are made of "stuff" but they share a common propulsion system - psychic energy. Wraith constructs use the soul contained in the spirit stone to power the unit whilst the intelligence within the soul guides the "robot". Pain Engines use the tortured anguish of the "thing" locked inside it, turned to pseudo-psychic energy by the vampiric "technology" of the Heamonculai. The instinctive remains of the psyche of whatever is inside guides this "robot". The two are essentially the same - artificial tomb robots powered by some form of psychic energy and guided by some form of sentient will. Petrol and diesel engines work on different principles but they're both similar systems of propulsion for similar types of vehicles. This is how I see the two races war constructs.

And yes, pictures pls!

My point was more: They use different technology. So, why bother with a wraithbone (ugly and unartistic) robot from a hard to master technology, when you already developped a parallel working technology?

(Yes, I know, we are saying the same thing!! Laughing )

PS.: I want pictures, too. Razz

Wraith bone and DE engines are both made of living material. That is how they are common.

I thought that Wraithbone was crystalized psychic energy not living material.

I recall reading that it is a living psychic material. Like a living tissue. I cannot recall the source.

What I remember is that's not alive, but can transmit and stock psychic energy. So, can stock spirits, but is not alive itself.

We require the help of an eldar for a cultural exchange about wraithbone.

I was thinking further on it, I believe the Verminlord would make a better wych cult wraithknight with a beast master astride and plenty of chains.

For coven I'm now thinking the obvious choice of the thanqoul/bone ripper kit.

Though I think I'm set on the Nagash conversion.

Wraith Bone is physically harnessed psychic energy. From what I can gather it is as hard as any alloyed metal as malleable as any engineered plastic and has the energy focussing properties of any crystal/gemstone. I understand that it's psychically grown and shaped, I'm guessing in a manner similar to the way crystals grow, just more directed. The entire power and propulsion systems of an Eldar vehicle run through the material and it being psychically conductive they also run their freaky Eldar mind meld nonsence through it too Smile

I imagine the DE use materials given to them by the Haemonculai, super advanced carbon metals and plastic polymers rendered down from the bio-matter of countless millions of processed "units". If the monkeigh are made of carbon then probably most species are too and as far as we know reworking carbon atoms into extremely long and interconnected chains makes for the best materials, whether that's fuels or plastics or metals. I imagine the Haemies rendering down entire planetary populations into blocks of building materials to feed the voracious DE industrial machine. Scary thought!

I recall it was called living because it can change forms but not sentient. I wish I could remember the source. I have read a lot of eldar books and stories.
