CTC is the best choice hands down.

I run my CTC with haywire launchers. I've found that with so many points going into the CTC, I need the extra anti tank shots. Two really great things about the CTC: first is its large footprint on the table. It can control a huge area. Second, it has a crazy reputation as invincible. Nobody wants to get near it. You can use this to manipulate how a game unfolds. Also, the extra VPs that get generated from close combat are awesome. Those extra VP win me games.

Yesterday my CTC was assaulted by two knights, one then the other. The first one was a lancer that had taken some hull points due to my haywire shots. It assaulted the CTC in cover. They killed it before it even got to swing. The second knight assaulted and killed the CTC but only walked away with one hull point left. It was a real toss up. RB

I get the intent of the Haywire's, but how have they worked for you so far? I do have some points lying around sometimes on a few of my coven lists, so I might need to work them in if they actually have been working.

As somebody else pointed out, I personally want to try x5 Stinger Pods on them. It's a relatively cheap upgrade, so doesn't seem like a big investment and Strength 5 AP 5 Assault 2 Blast seems like it could wreck hordes. It also just seems fitting for a model that looks like a crazy sci-fi scorpion lol.

My lists have a lot of splinter spam to begin with and not as much AT as I need, so the 5 TL Haywire come in handy. They're really useful against knights. You take out a few hull points before the knight reach's you and it makes the job easier. I also find that in games where the Claw is slogging across the field, five Haywire blasters come in handy for taking out stubborn armor. RB

With regard to melee weapons, what about taking 3 with Chain Flails and 2 with Ichor Injectors?

You have shred for most enemies, and still have 2 ID weapons if you need them.

That's exactly how I'm running mine.

How do you guys feel about the new Cult mechanicus Destroyers with grav weapons. CTC and Dark artisan will get wrecked now before they even reach combat.

Although, Grot bombs with raiders or WWP will annihilate those units.

Between Cult Mechanicus and rumors of a lot more Grav availability in the new SM book, I think Grots will be the preferred Covens unit to play against SM and Mechanicus from here on out. The amount of Grav shots the Mechanicus can put out at up to 30 inches is ridiculous. So I think larger Grot bombs will be the best way to take those units down. However, CtC and DA will still be good against everything else though.

Yea I think CtC and DA are both good vs eldar jetbikes. Maybe not D-scythes but those guys will die to a single Splinter gunboat rapid fire volley or a venom+squad.

Would the spirit vortex be viable for a walking dark artisan formation

No. The Spirit Probe is the entire reason for taking a Cronos in that formation.

The model, and all friendly units with both the Dark Eldar Faction and the Feel No Pain special rule within 6" of one or more models with a spirit probe, receive a +1 bonus to their Feel No Pain (e.g. Feel No Pain would become Feel No Pain (4+). This is cumulative with any other modifiers to Feel No Pain, but cannot improve their Feel No Pain beyond 4+.
