PostSubject: Harlequins   Sat Jan 24 2015, 05:52

Hello out there,

Anybody thinking of taking any Harlequins? I've always thought they were really cool.

The Solitaire seems like he can be pretty awesome too, if the rumors in this article are to be believed.

http://natfka.blogspot.com/2015/01/solitaire-rules-and-hints-of-whats-to.html?showComment=1422033549598#c5467846813776796189

Would you take any and do you guys think they mesh well? I'd take one just to try and go toe-to-toe with my Buddy's Imperial Assassin, for the lawls.

Regards,
Raz

Well, given the rules, they are what Wyches should be.

High-initative, hard-hitting anti everything fragile close combat unit. Looks like they can take Hawyire as well. Their Invul works against overwatch.

They will probably be way more expensive then Wyches, but at least they can actually do something.

Think there will be one or two awesome formations.

I've seen some leaked photos and they're really expensive with proper equipment. They did get a solid damage boost, but they still die too easily to justify ~20 points per model with upgrades. That's just my opinion though, I still haven't seen what their transport thingy does yet, so it might not be as bad. But personally, I'm not very excited even though I'm absolutely in love with harlies from a fluff perspective.

Yeah, they look like they will hit very hard in combat. I'm excited for them - mostly the Solitaire, he looks so beastly and for only 145 points, crazy.

But yeah, lets see what their transport is like before we judge their fragility. Also, I wanna see the new shadowseer's powers - if it helps making them more survivable at all - unlike the current veil of tears from the Eldar codex : p

I will be getting them. I have a set of harlequins + a shadowseer right now. I played them in a few games about a year ago and they did pretty well. The only issue was that they didn't really fit in with the army I was building at the time. With the latest codex, well, everything changed anyway so I think it's time to try again.

The current veil of tears is insanely good given the access and ease of casting!

I was never a fan of Harlequins. It was mainly their colors and detail overload that turned me off. But after seeing the new models, painted in a more modest scheme, I am now considering them.
But first, I gotta gets some lizard things for my Exodites.

I've loved Harlequins since Rogue Trader.

With what loadout would they be viable as a decent choice. Barebones? Or pay 8 points to give them a better form of Rending? The Harlequins Kiss seems quite interesting to me a single ap 2 s6 attack per model with ID on a 6. They are made of glass but also have a buttload of attacks and unlike incubi will always strike at I.

This.

Personally, I might see if I can pick up a lone troupe master to use as something else. But, I doubt I'll use the actual unit.

Also, I'm not sure I like the Solitaire model. It appears to be wearing a sock on its head, and the pose just seems weird. To me, it looks like she's attempting to aim her gun at something behind her, without actually looking at it. Razz

I'll assuredly be using them as a small ally force... perhaps just two units in transports (or even Venoms). I really need/want a hard hitting versatile CC unit. I see the meta-shifting against me in that Imperial Armies are becoming faster and faster and I need a unit that can go out slow down key units in CC and actually beat them not just stall them like Wyches.

Plus I've got a sneaking suspicion that Skyweaver transport is going to be some kind of assault skimmer with a "flyer mode" that can drop the Harlies off. If they can assault after dropping out of a flyer these guys are going to be insane. That not even considering them on Jetbikes.

Not sure if I'll rock the actual models or make mine Corsair close-combat unit with exotic gear harvested from the crone worlds. Gotta get the book first, but I'm super excited.

Man, Cavalier, I didn't even remotely think about the possibility of the transport being a flyer - that would be insanely epic.

PostSubject: Re: Harlequins   Sun Feb 01 2015, 21:11

Just picked up the white dwarf this afternoon (after suffering through the usual triathlon of 15 minutes cycling to train station, 15 minutes of train and then 15 minutes of walking, totally worth it though).

First off I really like the solitaire (yes, I know he was also a thing a few editions back, but I probably couldn't even walk and read back then, let alone afford 40K), I think the model looks pretty cool, even though he suffers from the bad habit of harlequins wiping their fancy clothing over the ground (Gotta be some angry harlequin mothers out there!). I just feel like his blitz is badly designed (statiscally, you're only gonna get an advantage out of the movement "boost" on turn 4+, and your opponent will probably target him as priority #1.). However, the 12" move, 3++ and EW (thank you oh laughing god for this!) could make him stronger than expected. If only he had a way to avoid overwatch (wishlisting for "Enigmas of the Black Library"!)

As to the harlequins, I already own a squad, including a shadowseer, and to date they have killed:
*drum roll*
.
.
.
.
1 Kroot, using a pistol
(and the shadowseer usually manages to peril herself to death first turn, but that doesn't really count as a kill IMHO)
However, the sheer fear of them causes my opponents to dedicate a lot to them, even with Veil of Tears up.

I'll definitely be picking up both a solitaire and a box of 'quins, but whether they are going to see much play depends mostly on the shadowseer and relics I think.

Also, what's with the insane cost on the Troupe Master? Yes I get it he has 2 wounds now, but 20 point upgrade (95-15*5) is a lot, also that power sword is stupidly expensive (50 points for 5 str 4 ap 3 attacks on the charge, 2 incubi will get you 6 at AP2 for 10 points less!). The points drop and the new weapons are really nice though (Hurrah for bitchslapping terminators to death with 6's to HIT, instead of to wound, for only a 1pt increase)

Sorry for lack of structure, just some general musing, really looking forward to next week's release!

My only real beef is with their legs. Why are they all standing on a conveniently placed bit of stone?

GW has yet to master the technology of free-floating miniatures.

Get some magnets and make your haemonculus make flying 'quins models for you!

Oh god... now I wonder if it's actually doable, probably not in any feasible way because the models are so vertical and assymmetrical Sad

I will definitely be getting some, they are one of my favorite things in 40k. The rules are good enough for fun games. I think the solitaire model is one of the best made by GW. The jet bikes look great too, but their rumored rules look very meh

I love the sky weavers,  good AT option, with the ability to assault any troops that you manage to crack out of a transport.

Sorry to arrive to this thread late, but this is exactly what I thought when I read the leaked WD rules.

Agree that they are what Wyches should be. Unfortunately for us, too many people already own Wyche models. So they got stomped, rule-wise, and their role will be filled by shiny, new plastic toys. Damn you, GW.

To answer OPs question, I am definitely taking harlequins but mostly because theyve got such awesome models and the colours really stand out on the field in between all the dark eldar models.

Really love the new.models. The solitaire is really up my alley of what I love about 40k
