PostSubject: Khaines gate   Thu Dec 11 2014, 23:00

Just had a proper read through all of the first half of the new codex, how do people think gw are going to progress with this storyline? Are we going to have the biggest fight for thousands of years on our hands? Seeing as it's centered around lady malys and vect I'm wondering if when the gate is breached we may get a model for one, if not both of them!
Thoughts?

Progress a storyline? Nope, they'll leave it hanging as they do with everything else, keeps people talking about it and excited, you tell people what happens and there's no discussion - it's why the imperium is teetering on the brink but they will never tip it over the edge.

They DID progress our storyline, at least a little bit. I wouldn't be shocked if they give 40k a huge event not unlike the Fantasy one.

And I wouldn't be shocked if GW just doesn't care about DE while this huge event is happening...

The last actual story progression was durring the Eye of Terror campaign, all the way back in 3rd edition. As far as the fluff goes, it is still going on.
Every new campaign we have been presented with since happens at the same time elsewhere in the galaxy.

On the topic of Khaine's Gate though, if there was any progress:

Worst case scenario
While the Black Heart and Poisoned Tongue are fighting amongst eachother, the seals break. Commorragh, and eventually the entire Webway, gets taken over by Daemons. The Dark Eldar are doomed! EVERYONE is doomed!!!
Considering GW tends to put the odds in favour of Chaos, this would seem the more likely outcome.

"Best" case scenario
Vect and Malys realize in time that they have to work together. Their combined forces manage to hold back the invaders from beyond long enough until the Gate can be destroyed with some arcane gadget. Of course there would be catastrophic damage in the Under Core, and one of the two Archons will probably die in the battle, while the other gets to re-establish some semblance of order in Commorragh. Anyway, back to status quo!
But meanwhile, hidden deep within in the Webway, Urien Rakarth continues to build his own little realm...

That's just my interpretation, of course.

Property prices in Commoragh will crash!

For a long time, Commorragh and the Dark Eldar seemed to be unaffected by the 40K universe and benefitted from a kind of untouchable statut. No other races could be a real threat to the realm due to its position and hidden access in the Webway.
The only real threat to the DE being others Dark Eldars, and the withering of there soul to Slaneesh.

If the entire galaxy was going to s*** (a succesfull 13th Black Crusade, Tyranids consumming most of it, Necron all rallying as one empire, who knows), the Dark Eldar would not be affected as they don't belong to real space (only the lack of fresh bodies and souls coming in the city would really affect the race)

I think by introducing the "Khaine's gate", GW would have a way to force the DE out of Commorragh if they were to do an End of Time for 40K.

I wouldnt be surprised if the Incubi split. Just walked off. Infighing is all very well but frankly, its not good for business, nor honour, nor even battle prowess. Vect has forsaken them for the Trueborn. The Wyches care not for them. The Haemies have their own pets.

They have no love for the dark city, not the arenas and labs. They wouldnt attack... yet. There arnt enough of them. But one day, they are called to battle, some petty raid on some district of the city, or a tiny rim world, and they just refuse. What on earth could anyone do about it? Forget game rules for a sec, the Incubi are arguably the best hand to hand warriors in the universe.

I can see them wandering off, just when they are needed most. Perhaps they take the Mandrakes with them. Maybe they even pick up the Harlequins. And poof. Gone. Deep into the webway, even the void beyond.

And no one would care until it really mattered, until the enemy is howling at the gates, order has broken down. Trueborn, Kabalites, Wyches, Haemonculae, all stood side by side as the terrors of the void barrel down upon them, waiting for the order, fearing for the future, their leaders already dead. Someone will step forward, someone will lead the charge, and when they are out of rounds, someone will pitch in and take the terrors hand to hand. Right? Right? But no help comes. Its Chaos. Broken they run, screaming, being torn asunder. And then, overlooking the city, far, far in the distance, a figure, in black and white, skulls on the tops of his demiklaves, and on either side, in perfect time, Incubi. Some with Klaves, some with Punishers, old and new, but all with that easily recognisable armour. Standing. The cry goes up. The city is saved. Surely they will help out.

And with no expression, Drazhar turns and leads the Incubi away, with the screams of his old family ringing across the webway.

Incubi join the ranks of the Merc codex that comes out for any army to take fixed arrangements of troops for a fixed price. Dark Eldar are retired for not making enough money.

With a story line like that, I almost want it to happen. Drazhar isnt loved enough, neither is the Decapitator.

Grimdark Scenario.

Daemons have breached Commoragh, but Dark Eldar, knowing no fear or pity, even for its own home abandon Commoragh and start a great raid, Raid Without End. Every Dark Eldar participate. Every raider, venom or razorwing starts flying. Pouring throu the webway, killing unstopably across each and every world they see to sate the ever increasing soul hunger.

The only safe place of the storm, as everyone know, is in its eye.

Incubi would not leave the DE as Ahra wanted to protecal all Eldar and not just CWE and Exodites like the other Phoenixlords. At least so they say Wink

This is interesting, but would that still be the case if they bring their own doom upon them?

Drazhar isn't loved, because he sucks. On the table-top, that is. That's probably a little harsh. He isn't optimal. He isn't efficient. I eagerly await the day when Drazhar turns into a train with no brakes. Though I doubt it will ever come.

The Decapitator actually makes me think of something similar to albions-angel's Incubi treachery theory. What if all the warp energy at Khaine's Gate finally causes the giant portal/door/thing to collapse and from it pour... Mandrakes?

I can't really see the Incubi betraying their kin. Not because they are kin, but because of what Incubi are. It's even noted several times that Incubi are the only Dark Eldar capable of being called 'loyal.' It is for this reason that several Archons use them as bodyguards.

But Mandrakes. Those mysterious, unknowable shadow-daemons - they seem like they're up to something! What is the Decapitator up to with all his special heads? Making some kind of portal to the other dimension, eh? Trying to drown the world in shadows, you say? Seems a wee bit shady.

Or maybe that's just my racial paranoia kicking in.

But seriously, I think that would make for a great campaign!

Drakh.

Me thinks he's worshipping Khorne. Big deal for Dark Eldar, but nothing special in that universe. Neutral

And I seriously doubt the Decapitator of all characters would get to be the focus of an epic event.
If he returns at all, then only as an upgrade for a Night Fiend, I believe.

I think he'll return in the form of a data slate just like Cypher did or maybe GW will be kewl about it and release the Duke and Baron in a data slate like they did with the Assassins.

They have been there, done that. Hasn't changed a thing.

But I guess there will be no big surprise. Only for those with new real estate over the gate. Cause when the door opens, that part of Commorragh will be looked of from the others. Just another day for the supreme overlord.

You should really read the Path of ... books.
He is definatly not worshipping Khorne. In fact the Incubi are very adamant when it comes down to chaos.

Kheradruakh the Decapitator is a Mandrake, not an Incubus. He's more Daemon than Dark Eldar already.

If Commoragh falls, the Eldar are dead.

Which means....Ynnead, the patron of Mandrakes.

Also not a Khorne worshipper. Also Mandrakes are not Daemons, not even a tiny bit.
He also plays a part in Path of the Archon.
