Has anyone been using it? Experiences please. Come across anything that's stopped it in it's tracks or any clever tactica to make it work more effectively please? Smile

There are a few nasty things that can hold it up or ruin it.

A few to start off the top of my head...

Belial (fleshbane power sword). Actually, anything fleshbane AP3 is going to seriously spoilt its day.
Wraithcannons.
Warithlords, wraithknights

Fleshbane is annoying but at least you still have FNP to protect you. It's ID stuff that I really panic about.

I haven't run the corpsergief but I would stuck a chronos with it anyway. My dark artisans is stomping at the moment but its taken heavy casualties from two things recently. Tau smart missiles/plasma/etc has been nasty (unsurprisingly). The other annoyance are force weapons. They can really smart.
Other than those and the before mentioned ones, multiple talos/chronos are real tough and almost impossible to budge!

I've also been using the DA formation and have been considering "upgrading" to the Corpsethief (with a cronos running behind), hence this thread.

Tau Smart Missiles wreck all of our DE face, so that's not a surprise and I assume the Plasma was pretty heavily spammed to be of any threat? I've never been hit by Force before, but I have always assumed it's going to hurt a lot Smile

Grav centurions. Or grav guns in general.
Draigo and force hammers.

Surprised to hear that Tau SMS proved to be a problem for the Talos. It only wounds on sixes and you still get your 3+/FNP save against them. I'd more worried about Grav/Force/ID.

Its not the individual weapon but the concentration of so many of them/high yield missiles or whatever they call them. Death by a thousand cuts. The Lasrifle is mightier than the sword! Dark Eldar know that anything will go down to enough shots eventually. Its the spammed plasma which is the nastier of them. But no, as my grots figured recently, don't go near force weapons!

Edit. Also must say, the dark artisan is yet to be wiped in any game. Heavy casualties is usually a dead chronos or talos really, but it still hurts!

Same here Grub.  I've lost the Talos once.  That was vs just over 1000 points (literally) of Orks charging my Dark Artisan unit in one go.  First time I've even lost a model from the unit in 6 games.  The next turn I made 50% of the models in combat with me run off the table ... and I forgot about the -1 LD ... Lol.

I would definitely list Force and Grav as the things I worry about for my DA formation. Force especially - that can transform a functional charge into a 'derp, fail!' option by simply existing.

In case you haven't read it already, played against one HERE.

Only trick for stopping it is to shoot the supporting Cronos first.
Trick for making it better? Scout all the time, outflank never. Equip with haywire blasters if you've got the points to make it a serious threat to everything and able to pop transports and charge occupants no trouble.

I'm working on building a coven army and i want dark artisan an corps thief in it.... iv bin thinking about adding a unit of spirit seers and putting invisibility on them so everyone has to roll 6s just to hit, then you take into account their toughness and everything i think il have no problem moving them up the field.

I refuse to use Eldar. I consider the army to be broken beyond belief ... the unit prices are just miles out. I like a challenge and pure DE gives me that; adding Eldar would just make it far too easy.

i can understand that completely, but for competitive lists... why limit yourself. but like i said, right now I'm getting back into warhammer after years an years and i love the biomechanical feel of the covens units so i think my goal is to collect enough units to field a carnival of pain... i plan on doing some heavy conversions after looking up dark eldar conversions on bing some awesome ideas for wracks and grots.. i think i may even make my venoms and raiders look like they are made of flesh.

Used one last week, lost the entire thing to one round of attacks from a Greater Daemon. Before that, they were sweeping the board clean! Definitely worth the points.

Watch out for Tyranid warriors with a melee kit, those will ruin corpsethief's day so hard

I don't really think this formation is supposed to be played in a match with a normal points level.
Imo the premise of this formation indicates that this is more supposed to be an extra formation in case you want to make a really big match (plus GW probably just wanted to sell more Taloi).

I think 2k is about as low as I'd go with it in a competitive setting.

I wouldn't think 5 talos valid in a competitive scene. It has so many weakness. In a not so competitive environment it can be used. But comparing CT to 2 wk and a farseer on bike makes a sad panda.
