I feel this is really important now that "area terrain" no longer exists (although many players still seem to be stuck in a 6th ed. mindset when it comes to this topic).
Area terrain does still exist though - as long as you're using terrain datasheets. Which, functionally, you're kind of supposed to do.

I don't really want to turn this thread into a lengthy debate about terrain rules in 7th.  This is exactly why I advise a pre-game discussion about the terrain.  In an attempt to clarify my position, however, I'll propose a couple of common examples:  The rules for ruins on page 108 of the BRB do not include much detail.  What do you do with multi-storied ruins that don't have a base?  Is the bottom level considered "difficult terrain"?  Prior editions of the game had rules for this, but this edition doesn't.  Additionally, although you correctly point out that there are terrain datasheets, they are limited in number, are very specific, and are limited to Games Workshop produced terrain.  If you are playing with a scratch-built terrain piece, or a forest that is just a cluster of trees (whether or not they are on a base matters here, too) and is not a "Twisted Copse" or a "Battlescape," the only terrain dataslates that depict trees at this point, there are no rules for forests.  These are the kinds of things that a pre-game conversation can resolve without turning it into an argument in the game.

As I said, I don't really want to turn this thread into a debate about terrain. If there is interest in such a debate, however, I would be happy to start another thread in the tactics section to expand on this topic.

Thank you all again for your comments! Does anyone have any more tactical suggestions/insights to add to the OP? Thanks again.

Per the rules - if you make scratch built terrain you need to also design a data sheet for the piece of terrain. They offer the suggestion of having them mirror already existing terrain datasheets.

For my money the best way to run Incubi 6 in a Raider, Archon agonizer, shadowfield + Autarch banshee mask, soulshrive. You may want to include a webway portal plop them down out of LOS and then move in for the kill with Raider.

The banshee mask evens the odds big time against guys in cover, and if they are not in cover get ready to mulch Marines or whatever Marine equivalents are on the board.

Just remember the old proverb of "shoot the assault units, and assault the shooting units" and when properly supported Incubi are as deadly as they come against MEQs.

Thank you for posting the video.  I watched it, and I believe that you are advocating the same thing I advocate:  Have a pre-game conversation with your opponent to clarify what terrain values are present--this prevents in-game arguments.  Again, I appreciate your comments and the video on this.

With that said...and, I don't mean to be rude here, really I don't, but could we please get back to talking about how to get the most out of Incubi?  Has anyone got any more suggestions or tactical insights?

Cavalier:  Thanks for posting your thoughts about using CWE allies.  I personally don't play with allies, but since a lot of people do it's a valid point and I'll add it to the OP

Any more tactical insights from anyone else?

Thank you all again for reading and posting!
