PostSubject: Friendly tournament help needed   Sat Oct 18 2014, 11:04

Hi all,

Me and my impromptu gaming club are having our own mini tournament.
It's 1350 points, no changing of list and everyone plays everyone in a round robin format.

The group isn't particularly competitive, barring one guy, and I am wanting some help writing my list.

The armies involved will be, Tau, orks, CSM with daemons, SM and Inquisition (the competitive guy, runs a inq warband in a LR with all the grenades etc, and will almost def run a vindicare and ADL with Icarus)

I have most everything in the codex, though I am a bit short in wracks, and have no court models (though wyches could prob proxie)

My initial thoughts are that I want to run some grots, and scourges (obviously) but past that I'm pretty open to ideas.

Would love some feedback as to how I can make a reasonably competitive list without being mega cheesy.

Cheers all

Jk

Answer the important questions always:

Anti av 14: at smaller points, 10 scourges and haywire and done.

Anti tank: blasters on fast platforms or caltrops in reaver squads.

Anti horde: scourges do thus BUT liquifiers and Eyebursts from Medusae are highly effective.

Anti meq: sheer volume really goes a long way but Eyeburst is ap 3.

Anti teq: voidraven Bombers can get that job done. So can plain old disintegrator cannons.

Anti air: quad gun is plenty at that points level but a flyer can work.

Mobility for objectives: here again reavers or just plain old Raiders.

I was thinking of running a couple of the formations from the coven book.
The grotesquerie and the dark artisan.
What could I use to back this up?

Whatever questions from the list above that they dont solve. List building requires at minimum you address these issues.

I would suggest at least one, probably 2 scourge units with HWB. They can pop just about anything and leave the fleshy bits out in the open, looking at you Inq LR. Get them footslogging and susceptible to fire. The HWBs will also go a long way to to limit the other armies mobility. 36" threat range is pretty good and will make your opponent think twice about running their vehicles around.

Razorwing JFs will tear infantry apart.

Grotbombs with a Haemy and WWP can put some major pressure on a lot of things, especially if there are 5+ grots.

The Dark Artisan is worth it's weight in gold if you have a WWP in it. I used it today to great effect. In generally and can be great offense or support. Drop them in to spearhead into or behind enemy lines or near things like Grots to boost their FnP and help with damage.

Thanks for all the help,

Here is what i am thinking, it absolutely isnt optimized, but mi not really worried abou that.

Archon- wwp, armour of mis
two units of 5 kabbies in splinter rack raiders
two units of scourge 1 with HWB the other with HL

Dark Artisan formation - cronos with the spirit probe, talos with HL and Chain Flails, haemonc with WWP
Grotesquerie,
one unit of grots in raider with LG's, TGL, NS (these body guard the archon)
the other unit with the haemonc from the formation, bare but with a WWP

I know i could spend more on toys, and less on grots etc, but i kind of like the army.

My plan (ish) is to hide my kabbie raiders, maybe start with one of the Scourge (prob HWB) in cover, then DS the grots and talos and second scourge unit. I really want to frighten a unit to death with TGL (if i can get the Riptide to do it I may retire form playing on a high), so will try to keep the raider grots and talos unit close together, to benefit from the drop in LD, then once wethering some shooting, charge in for an almighty slap fest.

if i can force some units to run, all the better ( im thinking particularly the tau path finders)

With that army, what advice would you offer?

In my experience I would definitely recommend putting at least some kind of weapon on the Archon. Nothing worse than having an HQ unit absolutely unable to accomplish anything.

Haha, yeah, I see your point,

Trying to work out where to find 25 points from?

What could I lose without crippling something else?
