PostSubject: Dark Eldar wave over?   Sat Oct 11 2014, 20:23

Hey guys,

So I guess this is the end of the Dark Eldar release. The next models coming out are Fantasy Nurgle.

I just have to ask about all those rumors of getting new Coven models. I was really hyped about getting a box for Grotesques and some new model that was in between a Talos and a Grotesque. This is my first time experiencing a release for my own army, I guess I've learned my lesson. I really believed.

Its safe to buy now (back to converting for Grotesques). No one has rumors of anything else coming out for us right?

I've heard rumours of a boxed set of already existing units. Starter army kind of thing, supposedly has a lot of Wyches. Dont believe everything indeed, Tyranids were rumoured to get a gigantic bug that could be used as a transport for smaller bugs.
But then they didnt, they got a flyer, like we did as well
well.

Yeah, not so much a 'wave' as a 'refreshing but short spray that evaporated all too quickly'. For what it's worth, I think the days of waves are over. We may see all kinds of new releases in the future, so we have that to look forward to. The new plan seems to be 'always keep 'em wanting more'! Which is probably better than 'here's your stuff for the next twelve years', isn't it? Smile

yeah i attended 40k open day this year and the seminar with phil kelly and jes goodwin. They were pretty clear that in the future we'd see small groups of models as releases - they used speedfreeks as an example, so like if the sculptors decided they wanted to do speed freeks then we'd see a splash release, but they're not likely to revamp an entire army for a while.

Really disappointed we didn't get grotesques though, particularly given the emphasis on coven units and the fact that (at an earlier seminar in 2012) the same two guys acknowledged that the single pose grotesque was not a good idea (think Jes said something about they ran out of time before the release to do any alternative poses - got the feeling that he hated that - he seems to get a kick out of cramming options onto frames!)

Although this is not linked directly with DE, I noticed that on the product description page for the new warhammer nurgle things, it says that the rules can be found on the instruction booklet within the box (Same apply for the plastic clam pack character).

As far as I am aware this is new. Could this hint at new releases being sold as stand alone boxes with their rules inside the box. If so maybe Vect will turn up eventually? Although I would prefer a nice glossy little data slate card as opposed to having to carry loads of instruction booklets around with me.

Yea the "rules in the box" thing is going on for the newest releases. I think that they did make it a rule for future releases.

They did it for the previous End Times releases as well, I think. It allows WFB players to add one or two kits without having to invest in the massive ET book if they're not interested in the expansion.

Doesn't sound like GW. That sounds almost like they care about the wallets of their customers!

I think they care about their own wallets. And forcing someone to spend €150 just to use a single model that costs half that is not going to help their wallets.

I noticed there are several DE coven models not being sold on the GW site.

I have taken substantial interest in Grotesques, and finding myself at a loss. Lacking the models, and not favoring the potential conversions.

I hope the releases keep coming... Grotesques at $25 a pop..... And a 'want' to field 20 of them is pretty ouch.....

@Zerohawk - I think you might just need to make peace with the potential conversions, or find a suitable proxy.

Partly because $500 is a lot for just one unit type.

And partly because nobody wants to see 20 unipose breakdancin' frankensteins on a table.

Seen those conversions a million times. They just don't do it for me...

I think honestly, I'm in the minority who enjoys the look of the current model. My conversion efforts would likely start with that model as a base, with focus on finding as much different poses as possible.

I guess what I'm trying to say here is that I am onboard with team #MaverickWaves for DE Coven. Don't really want to 'make peace' with converting some other companies models

Your army - your choice. I like the GW grot model too. But having 20 of the exactly the same? Na-ah! I might consider him for an Abberation though. IF it were plastic. :-D

My feelings exactly. I'll probably just make a unit of 3, for which I'll use one of the finecast ones, and convert two of the Island of Blood rat ogres - some people have done some pretty fine work in this direction, although I'm certain that my own work will be less than fine.

This would be neither news nor rumour, anymore.  The DE 'wave', as it were, is over bar the forthcoming Wych Cult Shardstorm box set.

Locking wrack deployed.

Try living in australia, they're $41 or about $37US here. I bought a few of them at $32 and won't be buying any more. They're just way overpriced. The quality of the model isn't even that great.

The sad thing is GW HAS new models but they are like Intel they have such a huge production cycle that they are ahead of themselves and end up shelving new products for a year or more. Look at all these new plastic kits coming out now in late 2015...the sprues all have GW 2014 stamped on them.

The biggest change in the production cycle is they have invested in great 3D imaging and printing equipment which enables them to make changes to models and poses in the 3D Render and then print test models. It also makes it super easy in the 3D render to literally dissect the model and plan the sprue layout.

From what I have heard there is a New Plastic Box set of (3) Grotesques its basically a redo based on the original like the what they did for the wracks from Finecast to Plastic. With better poses and 6 heads, weapon options and parts to make 1 an Aberration.

There was also a Fincast New Drazhar model but then it got shelved and they were thinking of doing a dual model single clam pack of DE Klavex / Drazhar then they tossed around the idea of redoing Incubi in plastic and adding parts to make one into a Klavex or Drazhar.

Right now it looks like Drazhar will get his own plastic clampack release with really ornate Incubi armor and dynamic pose and the new plastic Incubi set will have option to make one a Klavex BUT release wise the Incubi set will come first and Drazhar may or may not ever be produced since he is not a big sell. If we are lucky we are talking late spring with promised Kabals Supplement being released to re-introduce the Lords and Ladies that Rule the Kabals. But again even though its all done GW lets stuff sit for possible even years. They have to gage if it will make them enough money to justify the manufacture. Right now they just make enough supply that they think will sell out then its Temporarily out of stock - Email me - "Thank you for registering an interest in the availability of this product. As soon as it is back in stock we will send you an Email notification." When they get enough requests then they order another production run from China.

Don't they produce in England?

Anyway. I don't think that they have a Kabal supplement ready. That would be cool but I don't believe it. Why would they? Maybe one for witches, but for Kabale?

That's a lot of very confident rumors that I haven't seen before (in a 6 month old thread). Can you share your sources for them?

But you're wrong about China. All of the kits I checked in my "I'll get around to it eventually" pile say they were manufactured in the UK.
